Maya McDonald makes a wish on her twenty-ninth birthday to finally be free of her day job at the candle factory. Not only does she hate the work, but the company’s owner is the man who broke her heart seven years ago. Making it on her own as an artist is her number one goal. Number two on her list is avoiding Everett Evans.Everett never forgot the way Maya rocked his world. But any chance he had … chance he had with her seven years ago died when he got engaged. Now he has no fiancée, but he can’t seem to get Maya to give him anything more than her timesheet.
With the help of audacious family and friends, Everett will set out to convince Maya to give him a second chance to make both their wishes come true.
This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.

This charming second chance, office romance is book 2 in Kay Harris’ Wish Series and it can be read as a standalone. This is a great book that moved at a good pace and kept me entertained until the very end. Maya is a strong independent character and the type of person I would love to have as a friend. Due to having her heart broken by him before and wary of trusting him, she isn’t quite sure that she wants to give Everett a second chance. Everett is Maya’s sexy boss who never got over Maya. I like how he is persistent in trying to earn back her trust. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.
A broken heart deserves a second chance. Maya is about to get a little help from some true blue friends to achieve hers. Maya’s Wish finds laughter in heartbreaking moments. Harris reminds that in life and love everything happens for a reason. Including second chances. Heart always delivers.
The story was a nice surprise. A good read
Maya’s Wish (Wish Series Book 2)
by Kay Harris
This was a new author to me and the second book in the Wish series but can be read as a stand alone as i did. Maya made a special wish on her 29th birthday that she would leave her job and move on to what is in her heart. Everett her boss and the man who so long ago broke her heart is needless to say not on her Christmas list. This book is a beautiful second chance romance that will remind you that as in life and love everything happens for a reason even if we don’t understand why at the time. Will so be going back to read the first book in this series and looking for anything else this author has written as she gives you the feelings that you love to have with any great romance.
Did not care for this book. Trashy
Kay Harris, “Maya’s Wish”.
As a Hidden Gem ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is.
English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 4,5 stars (of 5).
In general:. Sweet love story.
Main characters:
– Maya McDonald (29 years old). Had an one-night stand with a good looking stranger seven years before. Now working in the production line of a candle factory.
– Everett Evans. Business student in Berkeley when he had the one-night stand with Maya. Now – seven years later – owner of the Candle Co, the factory where Maya works. He still has a crush on her after their incredible night. But Maya hates him for leaving her after that night and two months later reading in the papers that he was engaged with a certain Rebecca Heath.
Julia, the HR vice-president of the Candle company discovered that four girls of the factory had the same birthday. The four decide to annually celebrate their anniversary together. During the meeting each girl has to make a wish for the coming year and tell the others.
Thus far this resulted in two books by Kay Harris: first ‘Amy’s Wish’ and now ‘Maya’s Wish’. Hopefully we read in follow ups more about the wishes of Julia and Alice, the two other birthday girls.
In ‘Maya’s Wish’ Maya too has to reveal her wish for next year: “I want to be free of my crappy factory floor job and become a full time artist before my next anniversary”.
During a Thanksgiving family meeting Maya unexpectedly learns that her parents have a new friend, a widow. She discovers that the new familyfriend is Trudy, Everett’s mother. Trudy and Maya like each other and Trudy thinks that Maya will be an excellent wife for her son. It’s the start of some matchmaking. Maya is reluctant. She doesn’t want a relationship with her boss and she hesitates if she can trust him again. But on the other side: hearing more and more stories about him from his mother and her parents, she learns that the reasons for his bad behaviour in the past are perhaps more complicated than she thought. And she cannot deny that she secretly still admires his good looks and that the sex during their one-night stand in the past was very satisfying.
All in all, Kay Harris created a sweet love story with many credible, sympathetic characters, easy to read dialogues and interesting business affairs.
