Billionaire Sutton Mayfair has nothing left to lose…My best friend is getting married to the woman I love. They say the nice guy finishes last. So what’s the point of being a goddamn gentleman?Maybe I should take what I want.Even that sexy little thing on the street corner. She needs a hot meal and a place to sleep. Instead I’m taking her home to soothe the savage beast inside me. I was born a … savage beast inside me. I was born a bastard, and for the first time in my life I act like one.
Except the more I use her, the more I need her.
I didn’t know I had someone left to lose.
But for a single heartbeat, I had her.

Mating Theory was an enjoyable read, Skye Warren writes Age Gap romance really well and this one is no different. I went into this book a little blind as to the world it was set in if I am honest; but it’s one I want to explore more of now. Sutton is a heartbroken rich 30 something, drinking his life away when a beautiful female catches his eye. Ashleigh is a runaway and she finds herself under the watchful eye of Sutton Mayfair. They are instantly attracted to each other and I loved their raw chemistry and the wanting Sutton held towards Ashleigh despite his emotional turmoil over his previous relationship.
Ashleigh was a well written character she was young at 17 and a runaway trying to survive on the streets; but I didn’t find her naive or weak. She was well balanced for a young woman, living to survive each day and an unnerving attraction to a man well beyond her social standing. She brought a free spiritedness to Sutton and allowed him to ‘let go’ of his troubles and live again. In return he does the same for her.
I have one main gripe with this book and that is a simple one. That it is pitched as a Standalone and I personally would have preferred to have read the duet that came prior to this book to have a better understanding of what Sutton is going through. This book clues you into his past relationship; but I would have preferred to have read it as a series. I don’t think this took away from the book at all but it wasn’t the standalone I was expecting, especially as it sounds like a story I would really want to read!
Mating Theory overall was a really enjoyable book, I liked how it played out, how Skye didn’t make the characters reliant on each other, they had room for growth and had great chemistry, it is a world I want to read more in and I would recommend this book to others without hesitation.
WOW what a powerful and raw emotional story Sutton and Ashleigh will capture your heart and give you all the feels as they tell their story and it will tear you in two and you will cheer for them and cry for them my god what a beautiful beautiful story.
I loved Sutton we get to see his vulnerability and sadness but oh my it’s so worth it, just to have a little hope and a speck of love and wishes. I routed all the way through, the writing is beyond perfection and I’m so happy we got to see the real Sutton.
Secrets and darkness are always a given when Skye Warren writes a story. Her world of Tangelwood has always been shrouded in darkness and secrets. And I love them all. There is something sexy and enticing about them that keeps me coming back. Sutton and Ashleigh’s story are no different.
If you read the Trust Fund Duet than Mating Game is the closure that anyone who read it needed. The Mating Theory can be read completely on its own, however. Sutton’s complexity is well described and conveyed in the story. Sutton is a very intense character. His complexity can make it difficult to love him, nevertheless I did love him. His desire to be protect the ones he loves is well stated and makes him an attractive man. He also has his own demons to come to terms with. He has a past that is harsh and dark. He is on the verge of drinking himself stupid when a chance meeting with the beautiful Ashleigh some how starts to bring him back from the brink.
Ashleigh is young. I do enjoy when Skye writes these young venerable girls right on the cusp of being women, but the ugliness of the world has forced them to have to pushed out into the dark harshness of the world. There is a strength in these young women that is often not seen in some female characters. We see this strength in Ashleigh in her willingness to leave her comfortable life instead of allowing her Father to continue his abuse. We see this when she allows herself to enter into Sutton’s world.
I loved the raw emotions of this book. Sutton find Ashleigh just when he needs her the most. The chemistry between these two is amazing and will keep you entranced. I could not put this story down. These two are broken and they have the power to heal each other. Sutton and Ashleigh are a must read! If you don’t mind the darkness and love that comes from it do yourself a favor and enter Skye Warren’s world.
The Mating Theory was a 4/5 Star read for me. These stories sexiness never disappoints. The story does end in a HEA, darkness does not win.
Heartbreaking. Passionate. Sensual. Captivating. Mating Theory is everything I love about a Skye Warren creation. She captured all the amazing feelings in this story perfectly.
Sutton Mayfair is stuck in a nightmare. He may be rich. He may be powerful. But two people he loved are getting married. His best friend and the woman who got inside his heart. He is into a dark abyss of anger, sadness and worthlessness. Then he meets Ashleigh. First in a dark rooftop. Then in a dark street corner. Ashleigh has no home, no family and no money. And to survive, she is trading her only asset and that is her body. But their connection is not restricted to or demeaned by monetary obligations. Will Sutton bind this too young girl to his life? Can Ashleigh really fall in love with a rich man?
I have a thing for broken heroes and Sutton fits the part perfectly. He is a deliciously dangerous and irresistible balance of vulnerable and dominating. He has demons from past and pain from present. But that does not stop him from opening his heart and home to Ashleigh. I have only respect and adoration for her. She could have taken advantage of Sutton’s fortune but she showed incredible strength and integrity. The chemistry set my kindle of FIRE! In pure inimitable Skye Warren style; their passion was dirty, a bit kinky and a whole lot of enthralling. It was simply mesmerising to read about the connection of two wounded soul perfect for each other.
Mating Theory by Skye Warren was a feast of angsty and sensual emotions! Sutton and Ashleigh’s breathtaking romance won my heart completely.
Received ARC for honest review
I will admit I did not know who Sutton was so I don’t have any backstory of his character from the past books. However, I didn’t need it. In a way, I like this better as I was able to see him through fresh eyes. He’s heart broken but so is Ashleigh and finding each other seems to be what was meant to be all along. It’s sad and heartbreaking and frustrating, but also sweet, and passionate, and sexy. Two heartbroken people find each other right when they need it the most without actually knowing it.
“Her eyes go wide like a doe caught in the headlights. That’s me—a f-cking truck. I’m going to break her to pieces. I’ll break myself, too.”
Mating Theory is essentially the closure that anyone who read The Trust Fund duet needed. Yes, SuttButt gets his own story and a complex version of a HEA here. He hits his rock bottom when the two people he loves, are in love without him. Sure he’s welcome to get a taste of that love, but he knows that won’t ever be enough. Luckily, he finds what he doesn’t know he needs with a heroine who is at her lowest.
Mating Theory is very rags to riches modern fairytale. The heroine, Ashleigh, is reluctant to get comfortable with Sutton at first, because she knows that life isn’t a fairytale. She’s a teenage prostitute who lives in a rundown sugar factory, why would the devastatingly handsome and rich Sutton Mayfair want her for more than a rough roll in the sheets? Plus, he’s broken and in love with two other people.
Sometimes two people just click together. Even if there isn’t a long lengthy story binding them, you can tell that their characters are written in a way that they effortlessly blend together. Duh, that’s what the author intends, BUT it’s harder to make love believable when it moves quickly and this author made me believe in SuttonAshleigh. Sutton falls in love easily when he’s met a match, and Ashleigh reluctantly believes in that prince “sort of” charming, so they make perfect sense.
Skye Warren really bleeds these two characters souls onto the pages, and it’s hard not to feel and root for them. The writing is incredible. The relationship does move fast once it starts. There is an age gap. I will note that the reason I didn’t give this a full 5 stars is because much of this story felt like Sutton getting over Harper & Christopher, which makes sense because that’s his current state, BUT I just wanted a bit more for him and Ashleigh. Their love blossoms quickly and much of it is off page. That being said I still loved their story and their mating theory.
While it isn’t necessary, I would recommend reading the Trust Fund Duet to understand Sutton and his situation better. Plus it’s also a great story.
But Mating Theory… oh boy, I wasn’t really a fan of Sutton before but after reading his story, I love him a great deal more. Sutton is a dirty, dirty man… He acts like a monster because I think he feels it would be better as he wouldn’t feel. And there in lies his problem. He feels too much. Loves too much even though he doesn’t want to. He’s been broken and hurt by those he loved and doesn’t want to feel that again. So acting like the bad guy is his best defence mechanism. Until Ashleigh. She is his lifeline. She is a sweet young woman who has been dealt a difficult blow in life but even with her pain she tries to protect Sutton. It’s a beautiful story about love and how sometimes you need to let the one you love go. Love hurts but sometimes, it’s worth it. For the right person.
If you have read The Trust Fund duet, you’ve meet Sutton. And maybe, just like me, desperetly want HEA for this man.
It was rock bottom for Sutton when Christopher and Harper got married. Seriously angry with Harper in this book when she ask Sutton to “come” to them.
How can she ask him to be the third wheel knowing he love them both???
And with the dark and demon he have from the past, my heart goes for this beautiful and broken man.
I guess that’s why when he meet Ashleigh, it was like seeing his other half. The purer half he need to protect.
Atleast that’s my Mating Theory on Sutton feelings toward Ashleigh.
Both have demon in their past.
Both need to conquer and find them self to have the love they deserve.
After falling for Sutton Mayfair in the Trust Fund duet I needed more of his story and was excited to dive into Mating Theory. Passionate, emotional and angsty Sutton and Ashleigh’s story was a captivating read with all the feels that I just couldn’t put down.
Both Sutton and Ashleigh were each so broken in their own way and guarded when their paths crossed. I felt their heartbreaks deeply and wanted to squeeze them both tightly. Seeing behind the facade Sutton presented the world showed me a glimpse of the vulnerable, loving and selfless man few knew. I adored the way he was with Ashleigh and how they each found beauty from their pain.
Mating Theory was a beautiful love story about finding love in the lowest places and how when you find the right person no obstacles is too great to overcome.
This story started out on the dark side and I ALMOST put it down, BUT I’m so happy that I didn’t! Sutton is a billionaire. The two people he thought he loved most in life betray him by getting engaged and he’s broken; he’s lost. He meets Ashleigh, who’s homeless and barely surviving. Sutton is immediately taken with Ashleigh and grows increasingly attracted to and protective of her. But Ashleigh has some secrets. Secrets that will make Sutton pause and possibly even drive him away from her. Can these two have a chance to be a real couple?
I started out guarded while reading this book and then Mating Theory became a page-turner for me. You’ll be rooting for Sutton and Ashley way before the end. Great new story by Skye Warren! 4 stars
I have this theory…that Skye Warren is plotting to have us all desperate enough for our own dark knight… that we will make Tanglewood into a physical place. Down to the last detail, we will have the Den and all our favorite places. Only the seediest underbelly will call to us, so we will have to find a way to advertise for the “normals” here.
This is my petition… please Skye, don’t stop. We all need Tanglewood in our lives. One story at a time is fine.
Mating Theory feels like its over before it begins. I know its me. I know I want more. I know I’m needy. Its just that….well, I want more. Sutton and Ashleigh are a surprise that works so very well for this twisted romantic. Tanglewood isnt the place you go for rainbows and unicorns but it does have its fair share of happily ever afters.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
My best friend is getting married to the woman I love. They say the nice guy finishes last. So what’s the point of being a gentleman? Maybe I should take what I want. Even that sexy little thing on the street corner. She needs a hot meal and a place to sleep. Instead I’m taking her home to soothe the savage beast inside me. I was born a mean man, and for the first time in my life I act like one. Except the more I use her, the more I need her. I didn’t know I had someone left to loose. If you have read Sky Warren’s books, then you have probably spent some time in Tanglewood. Mating Theory takes us right back to that town and all the characters we have grown to love. I was go excited to be back with them. Now is the payoff because I have been so curious about Sutton Mayfair and boy oh boy he does not disappoint. This is a book that will have you reading from the beginning to the end and never wanting it to end. We find that Sutton is having a hard time and is filled with this whole no one really loves me anymore kind of thing when he is having to live without the people he wants most in his life. However he meets Ashleigh and this woman is broken and so desperate for someone to save her. He meets her one a street corner, and these two have some amazing chemistry from the very beginning. They will suck you into their story so hard that you will pass the day away in no time and probably forget about all the things happening in the world that we live in today. Skye Warren always does that to me. Sucks me so hard into her worlds with her amazing words that I forget anything exists. I love that and I always look forward to anything she writes. However, Mating Theory is going to go down as one of my favorite books of hers ever.
So excited for Sutton to get a happy ending, because I love him! I recommend reading the Trust Fund Duet before this if you can, but you could get the general background without it. Anyways.
So, while Sutton is trying to pull himself back up and move on with his life, he finds an unexpected connection with a girl named Ashleigh. It’s unconventional, and she has a long way to go before she’s ready for all that, but obviously she’s just what he needs. I read this in one day. It wasn’t what I expected. I really love how Sutton handled things with her. It just made me all happy.
I give it 5++++ stars.
I’m slightly obsessed with down on their luck women…
And the men who find them, love them, try to save them.
This book was greatttttt.
It involves Sutton. Who we know from Survival of the richest. And Ashleigh. A new character for us.
I love the interaction between them.
I love her scars.
I love his damage.
I love how they fit so very nicely.
Highly recommend!
Skye Warren
This book is about Sutton’s story, life after Christopher and Harper. I have to say I didn’t like him before, well, it was mostly love and hate what I felt for him. Now it all changed. This books presents him differently, the real person behind what he would always show to others. Ashleigh is so kind, compassionate, smart and strong. She is perfect for him. They make a wonderful couple because they bring out the best in each other and fit each other perfectly because they are so imperfect. I loved this story, it’s worth 5+ stars!
Captivating, raw, emotional read. Lana~White Hot Reads
Sutton Mayfair is the sexy horse rancher who fell in love with his two bestfriends but who had his heart ripped out when they fell in love and left him out. Seeing Ashleigh on the street corner sparked something in him which made he rethink everything. This story is about redemption and self respect and I commend Sutton for having the restraint to see that he shouldn’t be doing what he was doing until it was right. Loved that Ashleigh got to experience life the correct way then met back up with Sutton. I just love the town to Tanglewood and all of the people who always make appearances.
We first read about Sutton in the Trust Fund duet.Sutton at his worst point and he is hearted broken.Ashleigh is doing what she had to do to survive.
The chemistry is amazing between them. They both finding confort in there relationship. When I started reading I couldn’t put it down.Skye Warren is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can’t wait for the next book.
With Mating theory by Skye Warren, came the lengthiest expectations. Sadly, this book didn’t work out for me. I had to DNF it in middle, almost.
You know there’s some stories that grip you so tight that even with closed eyes, you try to finish it and sometimes, the stories insist you put it down. I was really annoyed with Sutton and his bizarre yet absurd behavior. Usually, I am a great fan of Warren’s books and her characters, their intense stare offs and strong protagonists but Sutton and Ashleigh didn’t work out for me.
I felt like reading a story unfit for themselves. What is happening? Why though? How long? Such were my thoughts. The saving grace would be the author’s name here.
I thank Social Butterfly PR for providing me with the arc in exchange of an honest review.
Sutton and Ashleigh weren’t dark, their story wasn’t in the shadows; It wasn’t mired in mystery, behind a fog or mist; Their story wasn’t rich and thick like a dark chocolate flowing over you; No, Sutton and Ashleigh were a diamond, and the more it was polished, the more it revealed, the carats, hidden, until it was brilliant. Their story, their lives, their love, took some time to develop from the coal it seemed to be. It took pressure, because the grime they felt on themselves didn’t reveal what was beneath. But by the end, the cut, the clarity, the worth and the value was breathtaking and priceless
Down on your luck, heartbroken, in deep despair? Well so is one devastatingly handsome man that fills the pages of Mating Theory by Skye Warren. This book is steamy and sad but with a bright outlook that will restore your faith in mankind. Warren has been one of my favorite authors for some time now and I never miss a chance to read her books. All her stories are one-click worthy and do not disappoint. Come back and visit the rich and the poor lives of the people of Tanglewood and see just what kind of trouble they have brewing now. 5-stars for Mating Theory by Skye Warren
Sutton Mayfair is heartbroken. He made the mistake of falling in love with not one, but two people and those two people fell in love with each other. Now as Harper and Christopher’s wedding is upon them Sutton must pull himself together and sober up enough to be the best man at the wedding for the two people, he loves the most. Ashleigh never thought she would find herself on the streets but that is where she is. Her friend Ky tells her to wait for the high-end clients and stay safe, but Ashleigh doesn’t want to sell herself at all, but her hunger says otherwise. When Sutton finds Ashleigh in the rain and promises her money and dinner for just one kiss how can she turn it down. Now days later Sutton has taken care of Ashleigh and she has broken the one cardinal rule that Ky taught her “don’t get attached”. What Ashleigh doesn’t know is that Sutton is just as attached but his moral compass has kicked in and he can no longer be that man that she knew before. Is there really any hope for a broken street urchin and an equally broken millionaire?
