Skye Warren is one of my favorites for sexy, twisty romance with strong alpha heroes and Mating Theory is one of her best!
I’m embarrassed to say this is my first Skye Warren book, but it won’t be my last! And I have plenty of time to read at the moment! I loved this steamy, modern Cinderella story!
4.5 STARS
A quick, fast-paced read that explores the aftermath of one man’s heartbreak.
Sutton Mayfair’s story actually begins in Skye Warren’s Trust Fund Duet with Survival of The Richest and The Evolution of a Man. There, he finds himself tangled in a sort of love triangle with his bestfriend, Christopher, and the girl they both love, Harper. Now, you do not need to read said duet in order to read this novel as it reads as a complete standalone. However, I feel if you do read the noted books above, you will have a deeper, more in-depth understanding of Sutton’s heartbreak in Mating Theory.
The love triangle Sutton once found himself in has reached its ending. In fact, the other two involved in said love triangle are getting married soon and Sutton is the best man. As a way to cope, he finds solace in alcohol, in hitting rock bottom over and over again. Wallowing in his sorrows until he hits the bottom of the bottle. On one of his worst nights he meets Ashleigh Barnes and she becomes the love his heart has been yearning for.
Ashleigh is living a life that is far from glamorous. Running away from her troubles at home, she now lives on the streets, surviving by using the only thing she has for money–her body. She has little experience in her profession and her innocence often shows along with her prideful nature. This girl, gah she’s a bit broken but not too shattered she cannot be put back together again and she’s so full of fight. In Sutton, she finds a safe haven. A lover. A friend. No matter how temporary it may seem. And in her, Sutton finds the one he can bare himself to and be completely vulnerable with.
Exhilarating is the only word I can think of to describe how I felt reading a novel where the hero is so open with his emotions, so very raw with his thoughts. Skye Warren has penned a beautiful novel rich in heartache. The cover initially drew me to Mating Theory, but it was Skye’s words that kept me truly captivated with every flip of the page!

Mating Theory: A Trust Fund Standalone Novel – Skye Warren
Just finished Mating Theory this morning. As always Skye Warren has taken me on a ride through some of the craziest emotions that only she can bring to a book!
Sutton Mayfair didn’t win the girl and even worse he was asked to be best man! That is a tough pill to swallow, but our Sutton no pills for him, right to the alcohol! He is suffering, a lot! Ashleigh had met Sutton on the roof of the building she took shelter in. Ashleigh was basically on her own, except for her friend Ky and her cat Sugar she was alone. That night though she could have had Sutton as well, except he was drunk and mourning the loss of Harper to Christopher so he paid her a couple hundred to get off the roof and leave him alone.
That is the beginning! Sutton is gutted, drunk, sorry for himself and blows away a few weeks of his life. He has got to get control of everything, not just his feelings, he owns a company, has employees…responsibilities. He may have Ashleigh!
Skye Warren never fails to take you to the farthest edge of what her characters have to sort through and while she does that she weaves a very fine web of intrigue, hope,
self-evaluation, fears, wants and needs until we find love right where it needs to be.
Sutton has a theory and his theory ends with Ashleigh as if it was always going to be that way.
Skye is an automatic yes, always!

“DEAR GOD. THIS BOOK, GUYS!!! OMG. Okay, I may have a new favorite book from Skye Warren!!!” – Lina’s Reviews Book Blog
4 STARS
Skye Warren captivated me with this book. Sutton and Ashleigh had a connection that couldn’t be denied. You know that there’s an age-gap type of romance but it wasn’t obvious in their interactions. This book is definitely a MUST read that I highly recommend.
Mating Theory by Skye Warren will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!
„Maybe I don’t have to know how the dreams will come true. It’s enough to believe.”
Be still, my heart! You know the saying ‘If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t they never were’? Well, Skye Warren beautifully showed that true love will survive everything, even if it was born in unusual circumstances. Mating Theory is an amazing love story about two broken people, who lost faith in their happily ever after. Ashleigh and Sutton met in the darkest moments of their lives and they turned out to be exactly what they needed for each other.
Sutton instantly melted my heart. This broken man is so kind and caring, even though he doesn’t always show it. His feelings are so strong and powerful. Sometimes he acts like a jerk, but it’s a façade that protects him from another heartbreak. But when you’ll get through his walls, he’ll give you the world. He may be vulnerable, but he’s also dominating. And his dirty talk makes panties disappear!
Ashleigh carries her own baggage and she tries to survive on her own. Convinced that you can’t buy feelings for money, she tries to keep her heart locked. But thrown straight into the harshness of this world, she needs someone to care for her. But how genuine can feelings be, if there’s money involved?
Sutton and Ashleigh had an electrifying chemistry right from the moment they met. I loved how every emotion was raw and real. They found each other when they both were at the rock bottom and turned out to be exactly what they needed. Their passion was incredibly hot and all-consuming. Skye Warren managed to find beauty in pain with these two and that’s why their love story is so genuine and heartbreakingly beautiful.
Mating Theory squeezed my heart and made it beat faster. Skye Warren created a wonderful story that shows that love can be found even in ugly places. Ashleigh and Sutton are imperfect characters, but they’re perfect together and there’s no obstacles that true love can’t overcome. This book was completely captivating and I couldn’t put it down!
Sutton Mayfair met Ashleigh one night when his world was crumpling around him. The next time they bumped into each other Sutton decides to help her. Living and working on the streets of Tanglewood is the life Ashleigh has. That is until Sutton sees her again. He wants to forget and she wants…well what does she want? Can these two troubled souls bring each other the peace their looking for? Oh, how I enjoyed this fast paced read. This reminded me a little of a certain “working girl meets wealthy man” movie and I loved every second! Sutton and Ashleigh we perfect together! Told in dual POV
All I wanted was more Sutton & Ashleigh time.
Skye Warren has done it again. Her characters pull me in for an enjoyable ride from start to finish.
Oh my gosh, this book grabs you from page 1 and keeps you until the very end. There is so much passion between the characters. They are not perfect and both have their demons. I love a story full of tension and angst and this one has plenty.
5 star Review Mating Theory by Skye Warren
AUDIO REVIEW:
Skye Warren is a relatively new author to me and I have no idea why that is. I have listened to the narrators Emma Wilder and Tor Thom before and they did a great job with the narration of Mating Theory. The story was well written, engaging and I was engaged from the first to the last chapter.
I found the story entertaining and the narrators certainly brought the story to life for me.
Mating Theory
A Trust Fund Standalone Novel
By: Skye Warren
Narrated by: Emma Wilder, Tor Thom
I listen to romance so I can hear a good love story. Sometimes a little fluffy, sometimes a little dark, my mood takes me to the choices. Skye Warren always fills my needs when it comes to a little taboo. Mating Theory is just that! A story that has a little bit of fluff, a slight darkness and some forbidden romance all mixed into passion and feels that kept me engaged for hours. Ashleigh is a teen on the streets, looking for a warm place to stay and her next meal. What is the best way to make money to get there? Proposition the man in the suit. Sutton is devastated as the two loves of his life are getting married. Bumping into this girl is an accident. He is in a bad place, but does he take advantage? Both in despair, they find a kindred soul. But does it end in happiness? Love, love love this premise. Ashleigh is so broken, but not so bad that she can’t be put back together. Sutton is mature enough to know what it will take to get his soulmate to him. It’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Warren adds her signature steamy passion and taboo into this making it a delicious listen.
Tor Thom and Emma Wilder are a fantastic team and are perfectly cast for Sutton and Ashleigh. Thom can play the broody, alpha protector perfectly, giving the inflections and nuances to Sutton making him very realistic. Wilder creates Ashleigh with a mature innocence and lets us feel her pain and love. It’s a fantastic listen, one you do not want to miss.

So poignant it made me ugly-cry thru most of the (too short) book
With Tanglewood Skye Warren has created a mythological town that is bleak and dreary, and harsh to many of its inhabitants. Her characters have been battered by fate, survived despite of that and in some cases even thrived.
This is a sequel to the Trust Fund duet, but it does work a standalone (for some reason I haven’t read Christopher and Harper and Sutton’s story). In any case, Sutton ist he one that was left behind, and now he is supposed to be the best man at the wedding of the two people he loves most.
After her trust has been betrayed in the most fundamental way, Ashleigh has been living on the streets for a while, but she hasn’t really adapted to the life and what she is forced to do in order to survive. That’s when she meets Sutton. After their second encounter Sutton asks her to accompany him to the wedding as his date, where Ashleigh acts as his shield.
When Sutton finds out about Ashleigh’s past and the circumstances that led to her being on the street, his love and his resolve are put to the test. But he doesn’t want her to stay with him because she has no other choice, so he sets her free.
Skye Warren has a gift with words and language and she manages to turn a trope that might easily appear corny and well-worn (Pretty Woman) into something moving and poignant.
If I have one criticism than it is that the story felt way too short and was over too soon. The resolution felt kind of rushed and unsatisfying. Despite that, 5 stars from me as I am so in love with the characters and their story, a story that is like a shining light in a dark and unforgiving world.
Mating Theory was a great read that kept me hooked. I loved Sutton and Ashleigh. Ashleigh was strong and independent, and helped Sutton just as much as he helped her.
