Omega wolf Jason and his family have been on the run for six years to keep Jason from being forcefully mated to his pack’s cruel Alpha. When a brutal attack leaves his father desperately injured, Jason comes to the conclusion that it’s time to call it quits. Terrified as he is to deliver himself into an Alpha’s power, he makes a deal to mate with the Alpha of the richest pack in the country. And … And discovers that he’d rather mate the Alpha’s handsome Head of Security.
When Mac captures the feral shifter that climbed the walls surrounding the Mercy Hills Pack enclave, he feels for the young shifter’s fear, though he knows his Alpha isn’t the sort of shifter Jason believes he is. He’d be happy to see the two mated, except that, as time goes by, it becomes more and more difficult to deny his own feelings for the young, damaged omega.
A sudden turn of events sees Mac and Jason mated and expecting, but Jason’s old pack isn’t done with them yet.

I love how strong Jason is and how much he has been able to do to help himself. When he realizes his options are more limited he still arranges things on his own terms to the best of his ability. Abel is so slick in getting MacKenzie and Jason together. The are so good for each other. This story also have the shifter in a different world situation than many of the other stories of this type.
The author got the action going straight away. The audiobook barely got started when I found myself short of breath with a racing heart. Oh, my goodness this poor omega and his father had been on the run for six miserable years. Sewing, crochet, knitting, cooking, cleaning? All out the window! I remember curling up in bed for this book because I wasn’t going to do anything but experience this story! I was so very delighted that the omega and father made it to the very wonderful Mercy Hill pack but they’d suffered some emotional scars because of their experiences on the run. What is the omega to do when he makes a deal with the pack leader and finds himself attracted to the Head of Security? And his old pack? They still want him desperately. Dang! There was NO WAY the other books in this series were going to remain unpurchased!
New to me author. This is a mm contemporary mpreg story. Great word building. Main characters are Mac the alpha and Jason the omega. Loved the twists and turns of the story and will read more from this series.
An amazing start of a wonderful and addictive series. The world created piques interest and the story and characters keep you drawn 8nto the story. Definitely recommend this satisfying story.
The first book in the Mercy Hills series introduces us to a contemporary world that’s so similar to ours, except for a significant difference: shifters are real and known. In this world, shifters are a minority population, a sentient species so similar to humans in their two-legged form, but not human. In the United States of America, about 100 years ago, shifters were forced into enclosures and slapped with extreme regulations that dictate how they can live, work, travel, and be buried. (The enclosures remind me of a mixture of Japanese-American prison camps, American Indian tribal lands, with all the prejudice and bigotry that minorities of every type have faced.) This is a world where shifters aren’t allowed to be free, and pack laws and customs rule the enclosures. Hierarchy is important to how packs function, and traditions and expectations are assigned almost at birth depending on the dynamic of the shifter. Jason is an Omega shifter from the Montana Border enclosure. Life was normal for him as an Omega shifter, until he experienced his heat not only during the Spring but in the Fall as well. Having a heat twice a year marked him as a “True Omega”, something valuable to be possessed and mated – regardless of how young he might be. In a world where shifters are despised and Omegas are seen as mere chattel, it takes brave parents to decide to escape, run, and hide from their old pack rather than see their child assaulted and mated against his will.
Jason has been running for six years when he decides enough is enough. His father is injured, and their lifestyle is no longer feasible. Sooner or later they are going to be caught – either by Montana Border pack members or the human authorities. Jason comes to the conclusion that is better to decide his own fate, and make a deal with an Alpha that will provide his father and himself protection as well as some measure of happiness for himself. And this decision is the start of a beautiful love story and the opening scene to the fantastic Mercy Hills saga.
I’ve read this book and listened to the audio multiple times, and each time I read it or listen, I love it more. The writing duo of Ann-Katrin Byrde have created such an intricate and dynamic world. Each character, whether it’s a main character or supporting character, is richly developed with depth and texture. The writing style is smooth, vibrant, and detailed. The plot seems simple at first: an Omega running away from an evil Alpha only to find love – yet it’s not. Ann-Katrin Byrde bring so many other elements into the plot that it’s not simple, but setting the stage for the bigger, over-arching series plot. This may sound a little intimidating, but don’t worry, the plot may be intricate, but it’s not complicated or hard to follow, and the love story is still center stage.
Nick J. Russo is a perfect narrator for this series. He does an amazing job with embodying the characters and making the action scenes even more thrilling. I enjoy his performance immensely.
This is a fantastic series and I highly encourage anyone who enjoys well-written Omega-verse books to pick this up.
