BOOK 1 of the Heroes of Providence series.
Who does she trust when the horror of one of her crime novels turns into a deadly reality?
Bestselling crime novelist, Cassie Alvarez, aka Cassie Lang, had murder on her mind when she walked into Rory’s Bar under dressed and under cover to research her latest crime novel. Researching the cool, blue-eyed and dashingly handsome man at the end of the bar stirred her senses more than she wanted to admit. But was this man of leather armor all he appeared to be?
Playing White Knight to an innocent wasn’t how Detective Jake Santos planned to spend his time under cover. But there was no way “CJ” was what she claimed to be and that nagging tightness in Jake’s chest told him he’d better take her home to safety and leave it at that. Then the barroom exploded with gunfire, leaving a trail of dead that includes a notorious Providence organized crime boss and an undercover FBI agent. When Cassie’s name is leaked to the media as the only witness to the grisly murders, Cassie insists she only trusts Jake to protect her.
The FBI wants their star witness happy and will do anything to make sure Cassie testifies. But someone wants vigilante justice and it is clear to Jake that the shooter isn’t the only person who wants Cassie dead. Not knowing who to trust, he vows to protect Cassie at all cost despite the fact that guarding the beautiful novelist is a serious distraction.

It was so interesting and informative
Very good read!
Loved the story. Lots of mystery and intrigue. Trying to figure out who was the evil plotter behind the scenes. Jake was an awesome book bf. He was protective of her from the start. And they just jived well. Cassie was cool with her wealth of crime novel research info. Loved how smart she was and don’t just take it lying down with whatever the …
Great story from page one. Characters are likeable and very relatable. Lots of suspense and action. I like it when the ‘whodunnit’ is convoluted and not easy to identify.
I was attracted to the blurb for Material Witness and I have no regrets! I love me some romantic suspense, and while I did find this story to be a bit ridiculous, inaccurate, and predictable, I enjoyed the heck out of this read.
Cassie was a woman who wrote crime fiction for a living and she was pretty good at it… if you chose to neglect the …
4 stars
Cassie is a crime novelist and has gone to a dive bar, dressed as a hooker, to do research for her next book. Jake is an undercover cop meeting with an informant. Cassie and Jake start talking when shots are fired in the bar. Cassie is the only one to see the shooter, now the FBI is taking over the case and want her in witness protection. …
Witness
A wonderful story about a suspense writer at the wrong bar at the wrong time. He’s suppose to meet his informant. She is people watching for as new novel. What happens next makes for as wonderful book.
I just read this author’s book “Her Dakota Man” and enjoyed it so much that after leaving a 5 star rating, I immediately download this story and dove right in. And AGAIN I Loved It. The storyline is credible and the characters are so rich and believable. Although I have more books to read then time in which to read them, I can hardly wait to …
This was a fast read yet entertaining and surprising
Entertaining start to this series. I really enjoyed the beginning of the story and the development of the chemistry between the two main characters. The mystery of who was behind the leak of the location of Cassie kept me guessing until close to the end.
I liked the book. Easy reading yet predictable be enjoyable read. thumbs up!
good plot line
This was a good book. I liked the characters and the story line was good. My only objection was the constant inner dialog about how they couldn’t get involved. I get it already. Stop saying it over and over. Other than that I would recommend it.
Very entertaining and easy to read.
Good story line easy read
A great book that was hard to put down. Loved the characters & how the story was told. Also, loved the ending.
Too much swearing and a bit vulgar.
If you are looking for a short cozy series or Christian series to read this is the one for you. Material Witness is the third in the series and ties up everything perfectly. I loved the mystery in the book the best of the three but all three are great reads.
Before I even talk about this book and get into the sadness of leaving behind Callie and the girls I just need to mention something. Have you ever noticed how creative Vannetta’s titles are? First, I’m not a cover person so a pretty picture isn’t going to be something that makes me want to read a book. I can appreciate a pretty or thought …
Great story
