One vampire’s quest to find a killer brings him the one person he never expected… His fated mate.
Lucian, leader of the Shadows, the vampire death squad, comes to Chicago to hunt a monster. The vicious killer who prowls the seedy underbelly of Chicago’s nightlife is one of Lucian’s own. A vampire. One with a twisted, diabolical taste for vulnerable human women.
Lucian searches for his target … women.
Lucian searches for his target but finds someone different. Very different.
Instead of finding the killer, Lucian comes face to face with a startling young woman. A woman who searches for the same killer.
Dana is streetwise. A Chicago cop. She’s also a dusky brunette with a smart mouth. And when Lucian detects her scent, he learns the astonishing truth.
This feisty female is also his fated mate.
Dana is stubborn, impossible. She’s also everything he has ever wanted. He hungers for a taste of his mate, craves her scent, yearns to feel her beneath him, submitting to his wicked demands. He can’t tear himself away and his control is fraying. He needs to claim her, to bite her, before he loses himself completely.
Welcome to the Bloodline Vampires, a warrior brotherhood of dark, dangerous and deadly vampires who will stop at nothing to protect their fated mates.
This book was previously published as Vampire Mate by L. J. Red.

I found this book to be exciting and I will definitely be reading anything else in this series.
I loved that Dana was such a strong character on her own. She complemented Lucian without being strident and obnoxious, which happens too often with strong heroines.

Hot, Fun, Well-Paced Story
Action, Drama, Vampire Police and Soulmates!?! Enjoyed this story! Started out with a mystery and went on fast mode! Great start to a series and didn’t feel like a cliffhanger at the end, either. On to the next! #HappyReading

Duty first then a change of heart
—>>> Chicago PD Dana Lewis is in the middle of chasing down a lead to the Monster of Chicago, responsible for a series of brutal murders, twelve in the last six months, and it points to vampires, a race of beings she is not in favor of ever since their existence was revealed to humans two years ago. Overhearing a plot to assassinate an unnamed shadow at the location instead, their elite-warrior vampire version of police, she heads to Sanctuary, a huge complex owned by vampires, to warn them because she was not going to let yet another die on her watch if she could help it, vampire or human. The leader of the Shadows, Lucian, feels a pull towards this resourceful woman and elects to keeps her safe at Sanctuary while he investigates the information, which has far-reaching implications in vampire society if it were true. Unraveling the identity of the killer as well as those behind trying to rid Lucian and his fellow Shadows’ role in vampire society will become on of their greatest challenges and will either pull them together and acknowledge their mate-bonding fate or push them apart forever. Dana’s bias against vampires being evil creatures slowly seeps away as does Lucian’s realization that the mate bond is not a myth, hopefully not too late. Enjoyed reading Neal and May’s first meeting as well, in this installment, as I had read their story first and was able to appreciate the atmosphere of the Conclave in their storyline.
I absolutely loved this book. Lucian and Dana are wonderful together. I enjoy the idea of Bloodlines instead of Clans. I will admit that I have my mind set in how vampires are supposed to be. I was waiting for them to happen, but they didn’t happen. This is a new take on Vampires, which I do like. I did find a number of mistakes in the writing, but it didn’t take away from the story. The flow of this book is done well. I highly recommend this book.
Great book. The author did a great job on the story and characters. Great start to the series, which I love. Highly recommend the series.

Loved this page turner story. 1st in the series and starts you off with a bang! Feeling a little sleep deprived but had to finish it! Hot alpha male with a chip on his shoulder and a dedicated cop risking her own safety to warn the warrior of the up and coming danger. L.J. Red totally rocked this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the next one in the series.

This is a great start to a new series and I really enjoyed reading this book. The author has created a world where humans know that vampires exist. There is drama, intrigue, mystery and romance in this story as the two main characters, Dana and Lucian search for the serial killer who is targeting human females.

Awesome story. I do love the Shadows. They are true heroes. To the Vampires and to humans too. There is no true way to describe the story. It is the kind you have to read yourself to believe. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
The main character, Dana, is a Chicago police detective. The book takes place a couple years after vampires have gone public, and opens on a suspense/action scene while investigating a series of brutal murders, likely by vampire. I like that she actually pauses to think about her options like a rational person would, instead of mindlessly charging in. Dana overhears a plot to assassinate one of the Shadows (the vampire version of police). She hates vampires, but because the target is essentially police, she feels obliged to warn him. Bureaucratic red tape and inefficiencies force her to sneak into the vampire sanctuary to deliver her warning in person. Through a series of events, Dana and the Shadow (Lucien) wind up working together, with chemistry galore. I like how the author made them both strong; he may pull the protective alpha act, but she’s smart and capable, not the weak damsel in need of constant rescue (although she’s smart enough to recognize when she’s outclassed). There’s the usual plot device of one of them pushing the other away for Noble Reasons, and unlike many of these plots, she doesn’t fall to pieces. There’s a HEA, with plenty other interesting characters just begging for their own stories, and a solid hint at the next couple (although I want it to be Brigit & Talon…hopefully they’ll be the 3rd book).

This is book one in the Bloodline Warriors:Shadow Series and is an extremely good read. This author has introduced some different approaches to the clan and hierarchy organization. Dana, a policewomen, and Lucian, a Shadow who is the enforcer of vampire laws, certainly have a difficult journey through murder, attacks, poisonings, threats, deceit, and a truly wonderful and hot romance story to hopefully find their HEA. Very good story and extremely well defined and portrayed characters. Good read!

One of the best books I have ever read and what is even better? It is the first in a series! A kickass hero and his unexpected fated mate hunt with Lucian’s fellow Shadow warriors, through the streets of Chicago for a serial killer targeting supernaturals and humans alike. An excellent storyline with all the intrigue and action and steamy fated love that I am so in to! I loved reading this and I am so glad the next book of the series is waiting for me to read!

The chemistry between Lucian and Dana is off the charts. It is quite the page turner, easily read in one sitting, it will draw you in from the first page, and never let go until the end. I finished the story wanting more. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

a vampire romance suspense story with a ton of great characters and a great plot that pulls you in right from the start, great action and emotion, as well as plenty of steam.
Dana is a chicago police detective working on one of the worse serial killer cases of the decade, too bad the main suspect is a vampire. In the process of looking for clues she ends up sneaking into the Sanctuary where she ends up posing as one of the servants.
