After an epically bad blind date, Zoey Monroe swore off men forever and got a tattoo that says “love bites.” Maybe she shouldn’t have tempted fate. A very powerful Mafia wolf has bitten her on the ass on a full moon. According to the Moretti Pack, the “moon-bite” means she is now the mate of Dominic Lombardi. Dominic will follow Zoey to the ends of the earth—no matter how far she runs or how well … runs or how well she hides. Crowding her world and refusing to take no for an answer, he refuses to stop courting her until she becomes his wife.
New dangers suddenly rear their ugly heads and threaten all of Encantado, the supernatural sin city Zoey calls home. When dark magic arrives, will she stop running long enough for her werewolf to claim his bride, or will she find herself fitted with a cement overcoat and sleeping with the fishes?

I couldn’t put it down!
This book is the perfect beginning to a brand new series. Zoey and Dominic check all the must have boxes as they head towards their HEA. Action, suspense, heroes and villains, love and jealousy, romance and regret, and so many wonderfully unexpected twists and turns that I just had to keep reading until the end. Oh and did I mention wolf shifters galore? More than one pack even, with so many more magical creatures that you never know what is on the next page. I loved this book and can’t wait to see what happens next
Funny twist on mob type idea. Great characters. New idea on bringing mystical cities in now type of world. Enjoyed the book very much. Went on to the next. Will like to see how author brings together new characters with old ones.
A great read
Sometimes I take a punt on a book. A blurb captures my eye and, despite not knowing the author, I take a chance. Some you win, some you lose – this one felt like a pretty decent success. Whilst it didn’t have quite the finesse say of KF Breene, I still really enjoyed this story and didn’t want to put it down.
There is quite a lot going off in the book, which meant the ‘romance’ took a bit of a back seat at times. However this is something I not only expect but PREFER in a paranormal, sci-fi or paranormal genres. For me contemporary is the place to focus solely on the lovey-dovey, if you aren’t going to make the most of the paranormal setting, why bother? For me there was some good solid world building, which I would love to see added to in future books.
Personally I really liked both Zoey and Dominic, yes you could argue they were a little cliched at times, but good writing, a pacy plot, interesting side characters and plenty of humour more than made up for that. I totally bought the intense sexual attraction between Zoey and Dominic, the love part felt a teeny-tiny bit rushed BUT there was a very touching passage where Zoey and Dominic really connected emotionally and that was enough for me to happily go along with things.
There is so much potential for the series to expand and grow in many different directions. The possibilities really are limitless. I feel that this is one of those series’ that will improve with each book and opportunity to learn more about this world and the people within it. I’ve already bought book 2 and can’t wait to find where this adventure leads me!
St. Clair has an absolutely brilliant sense of humor and imagination. Her writing style is easy to follow and makes this book a page turner. Once i started reading the book i couldn’t put it down!
A very enjoyable and entertaining read. I really like the idea of mafia shifter. Definitely not your typical PNR!!! Which made me enjoyed it so much more add in some action, suspense, and of course steamy romance and you have a great start for a new series so looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
What a rich world this story is! I loved getting lost in the enchanting world of magic, shifters, trolls and other supernatural creatures. This story was amazing in the depth the author’s took to really make a new, different and fresh story!
The story is a shifter romance, a mafia read, with supernatural elements and a humorous adventure that takes the reader on a ride. The characters are well developed with depth and humor; while the plot was detailed. I loved the connection between the two main characters and really felt their passion and lust (then eventually love).
I also loved that this is a HEA and safe read. There was no other woman/man drama, no triggers and no cheating. Just a fun romance story! I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.
Zoey is an earth witch that’s also blessed with map magic. What most people today wouldn’t do to gain that power for themselves. Z lives in a magical city filled with many shades of supernatural beings. From witches, werewolves, mages and daywalkers you name it. At least she fits in magically. As a curvy gal however she tends to feel out of place from time to time. Thankfully she’s got her boss/friend (also a witch) to help keep her head on straight. So tonight Zoey will be representing her friends catering business by working the werewolf mafia party *sigh*…. Little does she know that her ENTIRE life will change by end of evening!!! The mafia runs everything in her town, and unfortunately lately have been increasing the rates for projecting money. Not just that, but until “paid their due” no garbage pickup. Suffice to say Zoey’s already got opinions about these furrfaced jerks, but she WILL be professional !! Everything seems to go well until one chomp of *his* teeth on her bum from our of nowhere! The nerve of this guy…. And OW does it hurt! Immediately fleeing the scene she just had to get away.
Last thing she expected in the morning was Kalinda questioning her limping as she was still in extreme pain, and asking WHY Dominic a high ranking mafia guy would do this. Sadly Zoey had no answers since she’d in no way provoked him. Though some answers would be revealed when Dom and his two sidekicks suddenly appeared at the catering shop!
SURPRISE! With that one bite Dom and his wolf choose Zoey as their mate. They have until the full moon to.complete the mating… Or not. However Dom had let it be known he actively intends to woo our Zoey until then. In between all this crazy there’s also insane pack political stuff going on, weird and unexplained magical events and beings appearing that shouldn’t….like ghouls . People and business owners are scurrying away in the middle of the night like they’d never even been there. Something is definitely going on! So many things are happening at once that it’s easy to be distracted. Thankfully, since Zoey lives far from her overbearing family in this book, I LOVE that she seems to have formed a family by choice and of the heart. A family that will fight for each other and those they LOVE. Oodles of suspense , action, mystery, romance and all around supernatural craziness. I LOVE everything about this book and can’t what to see this fun, feisty, strong, caring, cast of characters pop up again in future books .
WARNING: might find yourself doing air fist pumps along the way, cheering I our main character Zoey as she continually fights for herself, those she loves, and those in her city!! I dare you NOT to immediately b wish to get the remainder of those books currently released in the series once you finish this one.
I know that *I* greatly looking forward to reading book two! Enjoy reading and take the trip of a lifetime. May we all have a little bit of Zoey within us!!
Joey is determined to enjoy life. Its not like she can change much so enjoy what you can. And then she meets Dominic…and is bitten. Can Zoey roll with this change?
I really enjoyed Zoey. She was snarky and funny. And she is not ready to be a mate, especially to a made man. But now that the choice is out of her hands, she just might get more than she expected. I really liked Zoey and Dominic together. Dominic was willing to give Zoey some time but that would not mean she would ignore him as she learns to accept her fate. I loved seeing Zoey and Dominic find their path together. They seem to be opposites but Ms. St. Clair and Ms. Newton showed just how well opposites fit.
This story is well written and enjoyable. I am loving this new world Ms. Newton and Ms. St. Clair are creating. The friendships add layers to not only the story but also Zoey’s and Dominic’s character. It gives us glimpses of what is important to them even as the fight to find acceptance in their growing feelings. I can’t wait to see where Ms. St. Clair and Ms. Newton will take us next.
Great Start!!
This is a great start to this series. The story is full of all kinds of mythical characters from shifters and witches to trolls and all other kinds of creatures in between. The world building and storytelling was well done and kept you fully engaged in the story. The main characters are fantastic and funny but sexy too.
The whole story was an all around great start to what is sure to be a great series. I can’t wait to read the next one.
This fabulous paranormal shifter story was right up my alley!
These characters were so endearing and relatable.
Zoey is my doppelganger, she gets here energy from the earth and is a natural GPS.
Dominic is a dominating Capo and has sunk his teeth into Zoey, literally!
I look forward to the next book in this series!
What a magical powerful world with protective shifters and all kinds of different magic I didn’t expect and found fasinating with the world they live in. Dominick is very protective of his sassy Zoey but not over the top she was a very Strong caring character. This had action and twists and turns On every page and kept me invested in the story.
First time read for this author for me and I thought it was pretty great! Mystical shifter book, with a twist and refreshing differences in this magical chaos world of shifters. Kept me hopping with all the happenings and was a part that actually made me tear up, which I was NOT expecting. Made me hungry for book two which I’m digging into now.
Loved the humor. Action packed page turner. Definitely recommend this story to everyone.
Action, fights, a territory war, a reluctant mate … what more could a reader want?
Cover:
Professional and relevant, genre-appropriate.
Editing/Proofing:
Mostly flows well and is devoid of typos, misspellings, pretty much anything I’d find distracting.
Character Development:
This was excellent; I really enjoyed Zoey’s values, wit and easy-to-relate-to lack of self-worth and smart-ass demeanor. Dominic is misunderstood, partially by design due to old wounds. Excellent continuity in this department and it makes a frustratingly good combination, if that makes sense. 🙂
Overall:
The gripped me pretty early on; I was intrigued by the world and entertained by the banter.
When I put it down, I found I missed it. St. Clair officially sucked me in early on. It’s fast-paced with lots of dialogue and drama. Also made me laugh out at times.
Regarding personal reading preference: A few occurrences of over-explanation were present, serving to pull me back out of the action when I should’ve been the most invested. I enjoyed how this series handles mating for the wolves, and loved the fact that Zoey doesn’t just fall over in love right away or compromise any of her values; it gives it legitimacy for me.
St. Clair has a fun way of telling a story and I’ll seek out more of her books for sure. Oh, and there’s action and crime and a mafia-esq territory war … none of these things hurt a bit!
4 stars
Better than I expected as I don’t like Mafia based stories.
Mafia is not a genre I enjoy but due to being magically based it worked well. The explanation for why the mafia took protection money (protection from ghouls, vampires, hexes etc) made sense even if I didn’t like it happening.
Whilst I liked this story very much, it didn’t make me go wow, I want more. It was too easy to know who was behind things and fairly obvious as to why.
Saying this, I will read any more books in this series that are written as I did like the characters.
The banter between Zoey and Dominic was fun.
Zoey, for being such a nice person and for how positive she was in everything she was trying to do to keep the street kids safe and her neighbourhood going, I found a bit judgmental, even if it seemed she had the right to be.
Her powers were different and as she said, a bit boring but the mapping came in handy.
Dominic was such a stubborn idiot, closed off emotionally and couldn’t figure out why Zoey kept hiding from him.
Love Romano and also hope he gets a story too.
What happened to Carlos at the end was wonderful, hope he gets his story one day.
I have to take away a star for the amount of errors that should not have gotten though.
I was offered this book by the author but choose to read it through KU and have since bought it.
There is nothing special or remarkable about this book. I was expecting more but it drags on and on. Its sort of boring.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
loved it !!! Loved Zoey and Dominic…twists and turns , Dominic is swoon worthy !!! couldn’t put it down !!!

This was over ally a good book, but it felt like the author was given a amount of words she was suppose to write and went back to add filler words, also she changed words into strange words which probably in her mind sounds funny but only come across as stupid.
Lots of intrigue and pack dynamics. I love the world the author has built. Magic and magical creatures are known to humans, but these creatures live in portal cities, and it seems like they have to live in these cities. Each city has permanent portals that allow in nasty creatures sometimes, and moving, smaller portals that allow in dangerous creatures as well. The latter are unpredictable which makes them especially dangerous.
Both Zoey and Dominic are great characters. I think I would have enjoyed Domimic more if the narrator had been able to pull off a male voice a bit better. Each male character sounded a bit whiny, like a sixteen year old, which was a bit off putting, but I ignored it because I enjoyed the book and story so much.
Can’t wait for more!
Lily S. Thomas – Author of the Ice Age Alphas series
An enjoyable story with awesome characters who feel real and believable. I liked both characters equally – her for her attitude and feisty nature and him for his dominance on the page. Another great story from this author.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
