She was offered as a sacrifice. He took her as his mate. The moment her ship crash-landed, Selena Marks knew she was in way over her head, and that was before the natives of this planet took her captive, stripped her bare, and brought her deep into a sacred cave to be given as a sexual sacrifice to the godlike brute whose whims they serve.Though Selena has an idea of what is in store for her, when … is in store for her, when her captor claims her it is far more intense than anything she could have imagined. Every attempt at defiance or escape ends with her pleading for mercy as her quivering body is punished and ravaged in the most shameful ways possible, but with each helpless, screaming climax, the truth becomes harder and harder to deny.
She is his mate, and soon she will beg for him to breed her.
Publisher’s Note: Mate includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Dark and Deliciously Wicked. That sums up Trent Evans’ stories, and this one’s no different.
When he asks me if i like to review an ARC,i immediately stand at attention and give the only reply possible “Yes,please!!!” I am yet to be disappointed in what he so generously shares.
This story is situated on a planet called HW14-3,and it tells us what happens after Selena and her crew have to abandon ship and crash on this strange planet they were studying. She’s caught by the locals and taken to the very cave they’d been concentrating on. Girls had been taken there and left behind as a sacrifice to….something. Those girls did leave that cave the next day, unharmed,so Selena wasn’t tóó worried. Until she is trapped. Until Malcom. He is….tall and looks devilishly attractive,Mephistophelian. But he is more,so much more….and he wants her. To keep. Can he “convince” her to stay?
Trent’s men have a special way to get their women to do what they want,ánd like it.
If you want to know how Malcom does just that,i suggest you read this deliciously wicked story.
I promise you….you’ll like it,a lot!
Mate is very much a story of Domination and submission it wasn’t incredibly complicated and instead of this being plot-driven, It focused more on the physical.
That’s not to say this wasn’t an enjoyable experience because it was just don’t go expecting some epic blockbuster because that is not what this essentially is about.
Pilot Selena Marks is on a space mission observing a primitive planet and its inhabitants when the ship loses power.
Flying an escape pod to the surface she finds herself taking the place of the lastest sacrifice and in the clutches of an omnipotent being of unknown origin Malcolm who informs her that he is keeping her as his mate.
This also comes with a hefty dose of humiliation and also a lot of objectification.
The humiliation is really just name-calling and not anything way out there or severe and it is something Selena herself gets off on also.
This was essentially well-written but this one is really more about the kinky antics of Selena and Malcolm it was not an incredibly deep tale but it was fun all the same.

Initially as I began to read this story, I was taking it at face value: a 4 person Terran scout ship on a mission to study the scarce but humanoid inhabitants of a tropical planet, a mystery surrounding interrupted planetary readings, native sacrifices & finally a crew in danger on the planet after their scout ship suffers from multiple system fails.
The main two characters: Selena (Terran heroine) & Malcolm (planetary anti-H) are brought together through random chance circumstances.
But the more I read, the more I realized just how truly thought provoking this story became for me.
The author gives us alternating POVs for Selena & Malcolm allowing us in-depth stair stepped insight into Selena’s personality & history that brought her to this assignment & career, yet Malcolm’s POVs are frustratingly vague as to exactly who or what he may be, although the reader is very clear on his expectations & intentions for Selena.
As she is physically much sturdier & larger than the native females Malcolm’s hopeful & lustful plans for Selena involve her being subject to his stern & eager domination & punishments as his totally submissive permanent ‘toy & breeder’. And Selena has increasingly conflicting physical & mental responses to Malcolm’s no nonsense extremely strict expectations as well as punishments.
As first, I wasn’t sure that Malcolm could evolve into an entity I would be able to like. He’s harsh, autocratic, domineering in the extreme, delivers quick, devilish & painful punitive corrections but that wasn’t what bothered me. What bothered me was nothing in his POV or actions implied that he in any way actually cared for Selena emotionally, only that she was a means to an end & his property.
But then Selena takes advantage of an opportunity to effect an escape.
And finding her gone affects Malcolm in a way he’s never experienced or even imagined . . . .
The author does an excellent job placing the reader in a unknown lush tropical environment with a unique, huge, muscled male alien that is terrifying in his strength & abilities & as the story progresses, is much, much more than he appears to be.
There was a perfect mix (IMO) of technical sci-fi via the action & scenes on the scout ships & pods combined with action on the nearly virgin world harboring a variety of life. The intensely erotic sex & punishments were a contrast to glimpses into 2 completely different & alien entities slowly, tentatively learning about each other & realizing their differences may not have been as total & complete as they assumed. And as I was exposed to more & more of Malcolm’s POV, I DID find myself liking him very, very much: a testament to the writer’s skill.
At times I could feel the humid air of the lush flora & cave, smell the rich dark loam of the planet’s surface, the refreshing & cool water; could feel Selena’s fear, frustration & confusion with her situation & reactions & feelings; got hints of Malcolm’s thoughts as he began to veer into uncharted emotional territory when it came to Selena.
In conclusion, I very much enjoyed this exciting, intense, erotic but thought provoking story.
BUT BE INFORMED: Read the book description as well as reviews to see if this is the type of book you would want to read.
Selena crash lands and when the natives find her, they take her captive and offer her as a sexual sacrifice to Malcolm. She doesn’t understand her attraction to him but no matter the punishment her body craves him. She may be his mate but she must choose to be, will she choose to stay with this godlike alpha or return to her former life. Fast-paced read with amazing characters and an entertaining story. The chemistry is off the charts hot and I like that Selena was given a choice. I loved it!
This is my first time reading this author and I enjoyed the dual points of view. There are some triggers in this story and some of the steamy scenes have possible consent issues. It’s a dark romance and one with a good plot and interesting characters.

I love the power exchanges and the spankings. They set my juices runnings. Major page turner. After Selena crash lands on the planet she is taken captive by the natives. She is given as a sacrifice but she’s not sure who or what that is. The brute they give her to is called Malcolm. He says she is his mate. Malcolm gives Selena a choice to stay with him and begin her mate training or go back to her crew. Hum, wonder what she will choose. I’d like to stay with the brute Malcolm. This is an intense book by an author who is known for his intense stories. This is set in the future on another planet. Of course, men and women are the same everywhere. Selena is a pilot in a military that is still male dominated. She got her first taste of dominance while in training. The chief instructor took advantage of her. “He enjoyed humiliating me, degrading me, objectifying me.” When she meets Malcolm, who is very dominant, she is disciplined by him as well. The longer she is with him, the more she falls in love. He is very strict and imaginative and she likes it, even if it is against her will. Everything comes to a head when Malcolm lets her go. “Leaving this place…it will not break that bond.” Malcolm wants a mate, not a slave. This was an intense read and I loved it. I really tried to give this book a chance but nothing changed my opinion of it. It was bad enough that I wouldn’t consider another book from this author.
I almost exclusively read dark romance so triggers aren’t a big deal for me at all but this story needs to come with a warning for readers who do have triggers. It is rapey. There’s barely a storyline to follow and it was as if to compensate for the lack of story the author added in constant sex scenes. I don’t want a book with nothing but sex unless I’m specifically looking for a short story erotica. I prefer my books to have a good, engaging plot to hold my interest. The characters had no chemistry whatsoever. Everything just seemed too robotic. The female character was obviously written by a man and I just couldn’t connect with her. The same goes for the male character. His ego aggravated me quite a bit. Overall, the book was a big disappointment.

*** 3.5 stars ***
** Don’t read this if you are offended by dubcon situations, misogynistic males, or females who like to be belittled. There is pleasure in pain and to each their own **
That being said this book is a wild ride from the very beginning. You will be confronted with a very intense male with opinions that differ from the little human that landed on his planet. Malcolm doesn’t care because he wants her and he wants her at his feet serving him always and in all things. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t care for Selena, it’s just him.
It’s a book that straddles the edge of pleasure and pain; love and hate; just enough and too much. So why the themes are dark and my no means everyone’s cuppa, it was still a fun book to read. I did wish the author didn’t feel the need to always have Malcolm use derogatory slander when speaking to Selena. I know the author had Selena enough it when spoken to like that, but it was all the time. It was starting to make me feel dirty a few times. That’s why I just couldn’t give it a full four stars.

Seductively Intriguing but Lacking… An overall wonderfully suspenseful read and interesting take on the sadomasochistic master/slave relationship. While it did not, in my opinion, fully or effectively relay the required emotionally intimate, interpersonal power dynamics required of a true, loving, and safe submissive/dominate pairing. Mate does successfully illuminate and push the ordinary reader to a higher understanding of dominance, submission, pleasure, and suffering as inseparable links within this realm of erotic desire. It lays bare the fluid nature of desire and plunges you away from the fixed perception of heteronormative sexuality.
However, as pleasurable as I found the overall context of this book’s theme and character development, I was sad to see it lacking in depicting the immense trust bond that must exist for such a pairing to truly be successful. A submissive does not submit merely for the sake of being subjugated mercilessly and without care. Within all such relationships there are clear boundaries with stop actions and codes. There is an intimate understanding on both sides of the power dynamic of how far is to far. And although, in the end you glimpse an understanding of how Malcolm and Selena cultivate such a bond, you never really grasp from Selena’s perspective whether she is a full partner or merely submitting to being conquered as an actual slave and breed mare. Yes, a large portion of this book is devoted to Selena admitting her true nature and desires. Yes Malcolm genuinely recognizes Selena for who she truly is and cultivates her genuine desire for subjugation. But, there is a very fine line between expressing true sexual desire willingly and actual abuse and this book at times teeters on that line.
Good read
I don’t know where to start. First of all, my laptop will never be the same after reading Mate; next time I read something written by Mr Evans, I’ll have to use a stack of ice cubes for my laptop (or myself)LOL
The story starts innocently enough, with an exploration team from Earth in orbit of a planet doing a survey, and then…it becomes a perfect fantasy. For starters, the H is described by the h as “the darkest, most twisted male fantasy her fevered mind had ever conjured up”, and it was as if she had read my mind :-D. That is why science fiction is my favorite genre, it can take your fantasy a step further, as this book does.
If you enjoy domination/submission dynamics, you are in for a ride. I almost felt embarrassed to feel so hot and bothered by the scenes here described…actually, my ovaries were going to explode. Trent Evans has got a special talent to create incredibly alluring, dominating male characters (a touch sadistic) and their counterpart in the submissive female character, who welcome and appreciate that sadistic brand of domination.
Some people may find this eroticism pornographic, but IMO this book is so sensuous, that it cannot be compared.
I also felt touched by the struggle the FMC had to accept her feelings, to accept who she really was, to see her situation as the liberation it really was; she goes through a life-changing experience.
There is a love story here, not just sex, and the combination of emotion and smuttiness is a particular brand of this author. Few can explore your darkest fantasies so well, though.
If you are not into rough sex, this is not for you; however, if you enjoy brutish, dominating heroes doing extremely filthy things to a very receptive (not at first) heroine, this is your dream come true.
I highly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. More honest than this, it would be censored LOL…Loved it, thank you Trent!
Ummmm… I think that I need to give this 69 hot, steaming stars. Because, yeah, it needs that many. Trent Evans really knows how to write a story that is going to tie you into knots and keep you oh, so interested.
Selena is an interesting character. She really wanted to make it as a pilot on her own merits, and I totally respect that. No one wants to get ahead just because they are who they are. She’s done really well at it too, I think. I think that she’s emotionally fairly strong, if sometimes conflicted.
Malcolm is endlessly fascinating, and I could spend hours thinking about him as a character and exactly who he is. I think that I might come up with a different answer every time I thought about it. Trent Evans has just put so many things in there to think about him. The thing is, this book isn’t all that long, comparatively, so the fact that there is so much on there is just really impressive.
Then, you have the living vines that I sure wish I could have some of those around my house, because they would be oh so very fun.
Selena’s Journey
Follow Selena on her journey to find her destiny. After having to use the escape pod on the space craft she is piloting and landing on the planet her crew has been monitoring. Selena is taken captive by a primitive race. She is offered as a sacrifice to what or who she is not sure. The journey she embarks on is a dark one. Filled with Just got a delivery at the front door. Would you put it in the house for me. Thank-you and yes pleasure. She can’t quite wrap her head around why she is so aroused by the brutal treatment given by her captor. Selena’s captor is godlike, but he doesn’t call himself a god. He tells her to call him Malcolm. He calls her his mate. Malcolm has waited what seems like an eternity for her. As hard as it is for him, he has to know she has chosen him for her mate by her own free will. Malcolm offers her to go back to the crew that has been searching the planet for her. Selena finds herself at a crossroad. Does she go back to the safety of being a pilot or does she chose to stay with Malcolm and begin her training to be his perfect mate. You will have to buy the book to find out for yourself. I have always enjoyed Trent Evans books. He definitely did not disappoint with this one. Once I started it I couldn’t put it down. Thank-you Trent for another great read!!!
This story starts out as a classic sci-fi one.
The crew of a starship has to abandon ship due to complete systems failure.
Landed on the alien planet they were surveilling, the story quickly turns into a romance fantasy with the most juicy non-con elements. And from there it turns into an epic love story with planet wide consequences.
And all that within the context of one book.
Well done Trent Evans!
Dazed and Confused, An Offer She Can’t Refuse!
Super Alpha Alien Male XXX BDSM Romance and Alien Adventure. Erotica.
Selena and her small crew find a planet with sentient beings. The crew studies the planet from space with various technologies, finally realizing there must be another, higher life force on the planet, too.
Their ship is breached somehow, and the crew has to evacuate in pods to The planet. Now they are stranded, and Selena is captured by the primitive natives and taken to a cave for sacrifice!
Inside the cave is a super being, who calls himself Malcolm, a version of his true name that Selena couldn’t pronounce. He is a living, sentient extension of the living planet. He’s the one that breached and controlled all their technology.
Malcolm is a giant, muscular humanoid male with strong particular sexual tastes. He wastes no time in claiming Selena for his once in a millennium mate! Claiming is a nice word for everything he does to her, but apparently, Selena enjoys it all! Dubious consent.
Malcolm is a super dominant Spankenstein, and a binder, who relishes in humiliating Selena. He tells Selena, he is going to populate the planet with their many children, and usurp the primitive beings now living there.
ARC Received from Author
I also got the book with KU.
Kudos to Mr Evans for writing such a unique adult sci-fi fantasy.
An out of this world dark love story with kink. Selena, human and Malcolm, alien are fated to be together, but the road to their happily ever after is paved with her sense of loyalty to her crew and his discipline. A well written story with hot scenes. I am voluntarily leaving my review of this ARC.
Who knew receiving a random book would open up a whole new world. I can only say, holy crap but Trent Evans knows how to make a girl hot. It’s true when they say that women are verbal and men are more visual but the way this writer writes…dayum.
Selena was a great character in accepting what makes her tick and learning that she finds great joy in her submission and obedience. I think I can understand why people like sci-fi because this was a lot of fun to read and totally immerse yourself in a story. Envisioning Malcolm with his extra large….hands and his ability to make Selena lose her mind…
whew….
I read and reviewed a copy of this book.

Selena is taken by the natives and brought to a cave where she meets the source of the light, a very tall, alien male. And, this is only the beginning of the intrigue and intense relationship between the HUGE, SEXY Alien, Malcolm and Selena.
Trent Evans is a master story teller who is able to help his readers realize it is good to be open and aware of ourselves and accept who we are. Malcolm has been hoping to find a Mate, to share his life, his love through his Dominance and build a Nation, together. He is intense and it is hard for Selena but the truth becomes harder to deny and his caring and love is deep, protective and all that she craves. Again, Trent Evans has given us a story that is not only captivating but original and the storyline line has all that keeps us reading and begging for more!
