Sometimes it’s the cop who needs to hit the floor…Haunted by the worst case of my career, I knew only one way to exorcise the images from my mind, the victim from my soul …
Inside the club, I scanned the room. He was here—Camden Snow—a sex god in the guise of unpretentious youth. Only his ice-blue eyes gave evidence of the Dom who took whomever he wished, whatever way he wanted, with a look … wished, whatever way he wanted, with a look and a nod. Merciless. Cam found me watching him and fixed me with his arctic gaze. This time, I didn’t walk away. He cocked an eyebrow. Well? The last thing I needed was mercy. I dropped to my knees.
After their explosive first encounter, the bisexual switch and the Full Metal Dom meet again
It was munch night at the most elite underground BDSM club in the Rockies…
- …relaxed and informal, highlighted by the weekly Matchstick Challenge game. Detective Sergeant Hunter Dane, reigning champion, looked forward to a relaxing evening to start his 3 days off. A few beers on the deck. A sexy interlude. Stumping a challenger with a new puzzle. Home early for a decent night’s sleep.
But some people are so deadly serious about their games.
- Now Hunt has a fresh body and a new puzzle to solve in twenty-four hours if he wants to find a killer.
And Dom Camden Snow comes along to help with a few games of his own in mind. Sherlock and John were never like this!

Matchstick Men by Adira August is the first book in the Hunt&Cam4Ever series. This is a suspenseful murder mystery story with steamy scenes and BDSM elements. It is the introduction of a lovestory, filled with drama, intrigue, and heat. The chemistry between these characters is scorching snd I am hooked.
Holy moly was this story good!! Cam is an Olympic medalist and a 23-year-old Dom. Hunter, a detective, is mid-thirties, usually he Doms but occasionally he is a switch. Sometimes he needs to submit, he chooses Cam. They are at an exclusive BDSM club that caters to the wealthy when a member is murdered. The story is full of mystery, suspense and hot BDSM action!! This was a seriously good story and cannot wait to read more. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
This is what I look for!
Strong complex characters that pull you in is one of the things that make this book and the series are d out. Then you add the drama, mystery, and suspense. That’s what makes you stay and chase after the next book. I wonder what intrigue awaits in the next one.
The beginning of one of my favorite book series.
3.5/5
Matchstick Men (Hunt&Cam4Ever #1) is not a new book if you’re already a fan of the series. The author has taken the novella that started the series and combined it with the book that was previously labelled as book 2 to create one starting novel for the series.
Matchstick Men is about Detective Hunter Dane who is a man uncapable of forming emotional connection with people which makes him very good at his job. In his downtime he’s part of an exclusive BDSM club where he switches between being a Dom and a sub depending on what he needs, and he also as a long hard limit list that is nonnegotiable. That is until the stress of his job becomes too much, and he gives complete control to Dom Cameron. Next thing he knows there’s a killer trying to get his attention, and he leans on Cameron to help solve the case and to keep him focused. But with his inability to connect where will that leave the two of them in the end.
The book is broken up into Parts. The author states in the beginning that this is not erotica but in my opinion the first part which I am assuming in the previous novella titled On His Knees is definitely erotica. The book starts with a very detailed scene between our two main characters. I personally would have liked a bit more character introduction and build up before we are given such an intense and intimate scene between them. From Part two on I felt the story line was well-structured and I’m guessing that’s the previously written book 2. I guess I wish the previous book shad been combined differently. Another issue I had with the story was the back and forth between third person and first person at random times, it kept the story from really flowing.
While yes there were things I disliked about this book there was just as much that I enjoyed. The mystery/ murder case within the book was interesting and engaging. Aside from the intense opening section, I enjoyed the Dom/Sub dynamic between Hunter and Cam. I absolutely loved Cameron’s character! Whether he was being the shy athlete or the take charge Dom he was just a completely enjoyable character. Hunter on the other hand was frustrating. I know his inability to form emotional connections is part of the story arc but it didn’t make it any less aggravating. There were a handful of moments between Cam and Hunter that were sweet and contradicted Hunter’s insistence that he can’t care.
Matchstick Men is an MM mystery crime romance that is very heavy on the BDSM. While I had problems with the writing at times , I overall up enjoying it. In the end, when the mystery was solved I was left wanting more. I want Hunter and Cam to make it work and I don’t know how many books I need to read in the series to get to that point but I NEED it. I need Hunter to find his heart and let Cam cherish it ! Excuse me while I go download the other books in the series.
I really enjoyed this murder mystery that involves the elite members of a BDSM club. I enjoyed the dynamic between Cam and Hunter. I thought they were hot together.
I can’t wait to read more!! Love love the alpha males!!
A story in four parts. It started with On His Knees and oh my goodness that was strong and forceful BDSM. Every step is clearly outlined, just how I like it.
It took Hunter Dane two years to get on his knees for the twenty-three-years-old strong, confident, enigmatic Dominant Camden Snow. Hunter, thirty-five-years-old, is a Dominant himself and he needed Cam badly and wasn’t disappointed.
A strong heart-wrenching scene to get Hunter down and out.
He unraveled Hunter, every part, nothing hiding anymore. Wow, impressive!
They meet again and we learn why there is resistance, anticipation, detachment, fear.
Hunter doesn’t want to love, he compartmented different feelings.
An arrangement ‘Friends with benefits’ is terrifying. Cam is more than just a force for Hunter, he’s intelligent, smart, helpful, and more.
When a woman from the community got killed there are a few options who could be the killer. The crime part was well integrated. All the interactions with both men… it was exactly what I hoped for. They didn’t disappoint!
I highly enjoyed Camden, he was compassionate, real, sweet. The way he makes Hunter feel.
An unbelievable intense narrative! Very enjoyable and engaging.
The end wasn’t satisfying ugh, I want more, and thank goodness there will be more.
