Julie Martin pulled on Jackson Davenport’s protective urges the minute he stepped outside and saw her go flying off her swing to land in a heap of gangly arms and legs then come up smiling. When he discovered how her parents pressed her into competing in beauty pageants for their own selfish gratification, he took it upon himself to provide her with the friendship the little girl craved. Years … later, just when his adult feelings – and body – began to want more from the beautiful young woman she’d grown up to be, Julie moved away to take the modeling world by storm. Jackson’s first encounter with the changes in her personality broke his heart and he severed all ties with her.
Six years later, Julie returns to Jackson a broken woman, unable to cope with the nightmare that changed her life forever. When he discovers her penchant for cutting herself to deal with the fear, he shows her a new side of him she’s never seen before, and a new way to get through the darkness that continues to plague her.
Even though Julie embraces Jackson’s dominant sexuality and the way his painful ministrations work much better at calming her fears, the truth of what happened the night her two friends were murdered stands between them. Will she be able to set aside her guilt to tell him the entire truth, or will she once again lose the only person who can complete her?
Publisher’s Note: This book is intended for adults only. It contains elements of power exchange and explicit scenes. While it is the third title in the Miami Masters series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

‘Mastering Her Fear’ is the third book in BJ Wane’s “Miami Masters” series. I’ve inadvertently come into the middle of the series when I received this ARC so I had no idea about the previous first two books. Book three reads well as a standalone and has enough information that I didn’t feel lost in the least. If you’ve read the blurb then you will truly have a good run-down on what this story is about. What you won’t have, without reading it, is all the emotions that go alone with the words. Jackson has always been Julie’s protector from the time they lived next door and were small children. The story takes us through the years, their ups and downs, their triumphs and failures, the hero-worshipping from a young girl, to the ultimate walking away. I don’t want to go into great detail with what happens because I don’t want to give anything away. It’s that good and I just know you’ll want to read every word for yourself. Just know that when these two come together again it will have both the Hero and heroine facing their fear, longing, and distrust and channeling those feelings and emotions into a BDSM relationship. There was absolutely no way to close this book before it was finished. It grabbed me from the very beginning and wouldn’t let go until I reached the end. Now I need to backtrack and read the first two books as quickly as possible so I can move forward.
The third book in the series and this one focuses on Jackson, who is more comfortable with animals than people with the exception of the other guys and Julie.
I loved how the book started with little snippets of the relationship between jackson as kids and young adults before going to the present. My heart just broke for Julie and what she went through. I loved how it showed her emotions, her guilt and fear. Jackson trusted his instincts on how to deal with Julie and help her. It like how he put his foot down about how their relationship should evolve.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one
Mastering Her Fear is the 3rd book in the Miami Masters Series. I find that I am devouring this series! This is the 3rd book in 3 days and I read an ARC in-between! Thankfully this series is on Kindle Unlimited too! There is an order to this series as well. Here it is!
1. Bound and Saved – Zachary “Zach” Allen-Vancuren & Cassandra “Sandy” Bowlin
2. Master Me, Please – Dr. Dax Hayes & Krista Matthews
3. Mastering Her Fear – Jackson Davenport & Julie Martin
4. Bound to Submit – Miles Cavenaugh & Hope Wallace
5. His to Master and Own – Sean Bates & Alessa Alexander
6. Theirs to Master – Troy & Trevor Carlson & Paige Wilcox
There are 7 men in this series that met over 20 years ago. When they were all 15 and in a juvenile suspension center together. They are all now grown and they have grown from that experience and all best friends. They all play hard together (not with each other) but with their women.
Mastering Her Fear is Julie & Jackson’s story! Something happened to Julie that made her become a cutter. She is a “broken woman” due to that happening. Jackson has his own way of trying to help her and it is working.
Another good story! I am working my way through this series and book 4 is Miles & Hope’s story and I can’t wait. I love this series!
Mastering Her Fear is the third of the Miami Masters series, but the second that I’ve read (after Master Me, Please). I enjoyed it, but not as much as Master Me, Please.
Julie used to be Jackson’s friend, the one he protected nearly their whole lives. She was his neighbor, and she would go to him for comfort when her taskmaster parents pushed too far. But when she became a successful model and turned into someone he didn’t recognize or like, he walked away from her and severed all ties with her. Cut to the present and she shows up on his doorstep, saying she couldn’t think of anywhere else to go. Jackson’s protective instincts come to the fore when he sees Julie, a shell of the girl he knew, and he lets her stay. But, when it becomes obvious she’s suffering from something that has severely affected her, he becomes desperate to figure out what’s affecting her. After a little talk with his psychologist friend, Sean, who’s a fellow Dom, he decides to use elements of BDSM to help her master her fears and to finally get her to reveal what’s bothering her.
I liked Mastering Her Fear but I have to confess that I didn’t really connect to either Jackson or Julie for some reason. That’s a big disappointment because I was looking forward to Jackson’s story after reading about him and his veterinary/animal rescue practice in Master Me, Please. I appreciated Julie’s backstory, and Jackson’s, but for some reason I just did not feel strongly about them. That’s not to say that I didn’t think they weren’t sexy or layered, well-drawn, because they were, they just weren’t for me apparently.
