Rebecca thinks she is overweight and boring. Logandisagrees. When Rebecca’s lover talks her into a mountain lodge vacation with his swingclub, she soon learns she’s not cut out for playing musical beds. But with her boyfriend“entertaining” in their cabin, she has nowhere to sleep. Logan, the lodgeowner, finds her freezing on the porch. After hauling her inside, he warms herin his own bed, and … inside, he warms her
in his own bed, and there the experienced Dominant discovers that Rebecca might
not be a swinger…but she is definitely a submissive.
Rebecca believes that no one can love her plump, scarred body. Logan disagrees.
He loves her curves, and under his skilled hands, Rebecca loses not only her
inhibitions, but also her heart.
Logan knows they have no future. Damaged from the war, he considers himself too
dangerous to be in any relationship.
Once the weekend is over, he’ll have to send the city-girl subbie back
to her own world. But will driving her
away protect Rebecca or scar them both?

My favorite Cherise Sinclair book! Lovely characters and setting.
I’m going to start out with saying Matt is a JERK! Rebecca and Matt have been living together for a while so when he suggests that they visit his club (which she had no idea he belonged to(view spoiler)) she said that she would try it. Upon arrival at the mountain lodge Rebecca instantly felt out of place and self conscious (and this is one of the reasons why I think Matt is a jerk) so what does Matt do, he says she frigid and cold…asshole! Anyway, that was probably the best thing that could have happened to Rebecca because that night she met Logan, the Hot owner of the cabins they are visiting for the long weekend.
The chemistry between Logan and Rebecca was great, I loved that he was able to help her with some of her fears and insecurities.
I look forward to continuing this series.
Another wonderful story by Chersie Sinclair. Love the characters, setting and plot. If I could I would rate 10 Stars.
This was written extremely well. The characters were not cliche, and the plot was one I had not read before.
Interesting take on light bdsm and dealing with a failing love interest whose interest is swinging. Not quite a 4 star as I enjoy a little bit of practicality in my books.
3.5 stars.
I’m glad I read the reviews on this book AFTER I read it. First, I’m trying to catch up on all of Cherise Sinclair’s books as I really enjoyed her Sons of the Survivalist series. Second, I can see where readers who involve themselves in the world of BDSM can find plenty of instances to argue whether or not Ms. Sinclair is adhering to the many rules and regulations that protect its members from irreversible harm, but really. This story isn’t a manual of BDSM behavior, and I can hardly say that everyone commenting have been adhering to these rules relentlessly. (I mean, who even can say they follow the Ten Commandments to the letter, or even the pagan morality code of “Do no harm.”?) This isn’t the proper channel to address these concerns. This is just a book, folks. She’s tried to insert a disclaimer at the.very beginning. That’s one of the reasons why I would never write a BDSM story because I doubt my stories would want to adhere to the rules. That’s usually what a writer does to inject excitement in a story.
Now having said that, my comments will be regarding the story itself, not about BDSM.
Having read the first four of her Masters of Shadowlands series (about a BDSM sex club), I am definitely seeing similarities in writing to the point that I have become quite bored with the sex scenes. I spent more time skimming through these parts just to get to the non-sexual segments where the story resumes. (I mean, it’s like being one of Eva Gabor’s sixth or seventh husband on. your wedding night. You know how to do it, but how do you make it interesting?) I’m already at that level. One wonders if some of the violations of the rules of BDSM may have been done to do just that (the wedding night homage, I mean). So I am rather hesitant to consider the next book because it’s only 108+ pages and $2.99 and not on KU. Once I skip over all the sex scenes, what else will be left?
Logan and Rebecca are sympathetic characters. In a large crowd, it seems I could recognize Logan far more quickly than I could Rebecca. My problem is that I now see a similarity between the majority of Sinclair’s alpha males. (Master Z and Cullen in the Shadowlands series are the exceptions.) So are they ALL going to be like that? I would hope not, or it’ll get even more boring sooner rather than later. Not worth the ticket price.
I really felt the crisp cold environment of the lodge which was the primary location of the book. My problem is that though I could easily identify with the lodge itself, I couldn’t “feel” its GPS location. Otherwise, I was quite impressed with most of her exposition.
I found the POV to bounce around like a ping pong ball. There wasn’t enough division between POVs, and I found myself mistaking one’s POV with another and had to go back and double-check myself. Aggravating. That’s one of the reasons for the 0.5 star given.
I’m not positive if I want to read Book #2 yet. That’s depend on the mood as well as my budget because the cost per page is rather high.
I think I have read nearly every book in this series and thought this was one of the best but then again I love everything this author writes! I loved that Rebecca was not have the perfect female body (or so she thought) and yet Logan loved her!
I loved, loved, loved this book. This was the first book I had ever read if Cherise Sinclair and she quickly became one of my favorites. I have read ever book of hers and I am never disappointed.
I love love Logan and Becca as a couple. I laughed and cried reading this book and have gone back and read it several times again (still loving it). I have had several friends read it from my recommendation and they too love it.
This author is fantastic, I love to catch up with characters from her previous books
Cherise is a just buy it author for me. She writes realistic BDSM in a good way.
So, the girl doesn’t like swinging, but kneeling for a man who is not her boyfriend is a okay. Learning BDSM from this man is perfectly fine because her boyfriend is off screwing other women. I liked the story, but not the swinging setup. There were plenty of different ways to set up that situation. Otherwise, great. Steamy and sexy.
It’s been a little while since I read this, but I remember getting a bit overwhelmed by the BDSM aspect. I had read a few BDSM books by the time I read this, and it just seemed that the hero was borderline abusive, staying just on the good side of that line. Also it does have some PTSD triggers, as the hero is a combat vet, and doesn’t do well waking up with other people.
Great Story & Audible Listen Steamy & Heartfelt!
Master of the Abyss
By: Cherise Sinclair
Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
This is my first book by Cherise Sinclair and I enjoyed every minute of it. It is well written and well told with interesting storylines that captivated me from start to end. The characters are complex and well developed, I liked both leads, there is a lot to each one of them, Kallie’s childhood had not been the easiest and they left her damaged and insecure. Jake had his own issues and heartbreaks, he vowed to not take on a full time Sub, he plays and scenes with Subs but only once to avoid any attachments. He is drawn to Kallie, he sees what she hides under her boyish clothes and also recognizes her submissive tendencies. When the two get to see each other more often because of their businesses working together it gets harder for him to stay away. I liked everything played out for them, all the angst, the steamy D/s, the realization of their own issues and of finally wanting more. But Jake may have pushed Kallie away one too many times for his own good. There is some great twists in this book as well as thrilling suspense and it is a slow build up of events and keeps you thinking through out. Cherise Sinclair thank you for this great story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. I am looking forward to checking out more books from this series, love the setting and the characters.
I listened to the Audible edition, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are terrific narrators and voice performers. They bring these characters to life, give each their own voice and personality as well as heart and attitude. I loved Kai’s portrayal of Kallie, she made her sound like a badass but also allowed you to hear her softer side. Wen’s portrayal of Jake was spot on, as was his take on the mystery man, he made him sound eerily deranged and evil. This is a duet performance and they work off each other naturally and perfectly. Thank you for another greatly entertaining listen
I love everything Cherise Sinclair writes. What can I say? She is the best.
I enjoyed the whole series. I found books 6&7 a little extreme for my tastes and not quite understandable with the punishments but I’m sure that’s just me. I thought the series should have ended at book 7.. I throughly enjoy all the players and enjoyed them continuing in each book. I read them as a binge read over two days I’m sure that increased my enjoyment of the series.
Well written, believable well rounded characters. Good pace, good story line. Look forward to reading all Cherise Sinclair books!.
This book was fun easy to read and I enjoyed the characters
Love these characters
Loved this book!!!
Romantic BDSM story. Has a wonderful HEA ending. Could easily identify with the heroine who just didn’t fit in.
