After I became part of the game… he decided to keep me as his own. He’s a beast.I’m no beauty. What happens when our lives collide is unpredictable, alluring, and ends in a way I never expected.
I really, really did LIKE this one.
A LOT.
It’s original, different, edgy, DARK, brutal & frightening; but most of all: mysterious.
The author gives us a Beauty character (h), who is not beautiful. She’s 30 & due to her less than promising looks, still a virgin in a large metropolitan city in the US. She’s intelligent, is aware society regards her as unattractive but has friends who do love her as is. She’s snarky, but not overly & cynical but not bitter. And BORED out of her mind at a party her friend coaxed her into attending at a palatial mansion with its own dark forest. While waiting for her Uber ride she is swept into a secret sex game in the woods by accident & there encounters her ‘Beast’.
Their interaction is intense, brief & when over neither of them knows who the other is.
But later our heroine continues to brood about the ‘game’ & the point of the game & goes to the owner of the mansion to confront & challenge him regarding the game he sponsors on his property.
But our heroine never expected to find her mysterious Beast at the mansion & never expected the outcome of bearding the lion in his den . . . .
The story gets intense, forced capture, non con breeding, unanswered questions as well as threats by a huge muscular but always faceless Beast that comes to the heroine each night & then leaves her violated, confused, angry & frightened. But the author gives us access to the heroine’s thoughts & while she is understandably confused, enraged & horrified, still uses her mind to attempt to find a way out or at least survive her capture.
I for one felt this story was original & the heroine was admirable while the anti-H Beast was darkly intriguing, intense & utterly mysterious. While it seems impossible from his actions, I felt the author was able to create an ability for the reader to view him in a better light than ever expected but many, if not most, mysteries/questions in this story remain deliberately unanswered. Usually that REALLY irritates me but in this story it didn’t. At all. I think that only enhanced the ‘fairytale’ like essence of this contemporary dark tale.
I liked it & look forward to more of this author’s works.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It wasn’t over the top in the captivity aspect (which was a different take on that premise) although that was the theme of the entire book. The author let that whole idea play out in the background while you got to know the main female character. I loved the emotions I felt from the character as I read this book. I felt her seven stages of grief very clearly and I liked her even more when she was faced with a hard decision near the end. I actually cared about her although I still had my reservations about him. I like how the author raised a question which I had through the thoughts of the character. I’m still questioning it but understand how the character might have decided as she did when faced with the possibilities. Well written. I wonder if we’ll see these characters again?

This story is fairly short but it’s packed full and had me going through a slew of emotions that left me quite drained! The story doesn’t start off dark, but it does get very dark and there are a number of trigger subjects/areas such as captivity and non-consensual acts. However, the author then lifts the mood again and starts to let a bit of light back in as the two characters continue their forced arrangement. It is a very short read and so only takes an hour or two to read but it is well worth the time to sit down and read. Although emotionally drained by this story I am very glad that I had the opportunity to read it.

Definitely not your traditional love story!
Although this is not your typical love story, it does come with what I would consider a HEA. This is a unique storyline with non-traditional characters, yet it was absolutely captivating. I started reading and couldn’t put it down, I just had to see what would happen. It’s a great read and I highly recommend it!

This type os book was a new type of read for me and due to the very dark turn it took. Even though not my cup of tea the reason I gave it a 4 is because The characters are well developed and writing skill of the author is present.

This book was the perfect short story. It was very original and the words seemed to jump off of the pages. What starts like being an innocent party turns into a “game” that changes Lorelei’s life forever! Be ready for a full out roller coaster ride!

I’m speechless, I never expected an ending like that, but I love it. I love how Lorelei goes from insecure to a woman who goes after what she wants. In that process she gains the respect of a man, who otherwise might not have given it to her. Phillip is a dominate alpha male that provides and test your loyalty, before giving you your rewards. I’m glad that Lorelei did the impossible and got her hearts desire . This is a short story that will keep you captivated from start til the end.

Unconventional take on Beauty & the Beast – Kept in the dark
—>>> While waiting for a ride home from a party, Lorelei is pulled by curiosity into the forest and into the rabbit hole of what happens there when she runs into a girl with a mask. What follows is a whole different turn of existing for this nanny, forced to be a captive to a man who refuses to show his face. Not that she considers herself as a prized catch, either, but the whole story is a soul-searching journey for her, and an acceptance of what she has experienced. Unconventional in that the author deliberately leaves questions unanswered and that the Beast may have a heart after all.

First off has triggers throughout for some. Very solid read that is extremely difficult to get through for many myself included. There is a lot of dark with hints of light. Left me with quite a few questions.
