“Wonderful historical fiction! Great accuracy and detailed research, with a full-blooded, gripping story running (and sometimes leaping) from page to page. I got lost in the story telling. Perfect reading for a raining afternoon.
Love history that’s not rigid!
Love this book! I was afraid it would be a bad version of Outlander but I haven’t been able to put it down and purchased the entire series!
Really couldn’t put it down!! Can’t wait for the sequel!
I am about three books into the series and really love this author and her presentation of historical and romantic fiction. It manages to be both interesting from an historical point of view with an awesome love story. It is also sexy without being pornographic, another plus. Since I know how the Jacobite Rebellion ends, I am becoming concerned with how the series will end because I am now attached to the characters! Great reading, highly recommended!
I enjoyed this book, but not all of the political parts. It was confusing because I’ve never studied this particular point in time. Otherwise, the book was enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book! Great characters. Very disappointed that Barnes & Noble doesn’t carry the next novels in the series!
I found this book intriguing and enjoyable to read. There are moments of happiness and moments of great concern. The abusive control of men was there but still subdued from what probably occurred during that era in real life. While I generally have no patience for “”strong” women who are definitely out of character for the era, the story line still was intriguing and I enjoyed Beth in spite of her 21st century independent strength. There was different approaches to the same old problem of finding money to marry. The ending is rather expected in some ways but without the truly happy ever after anticipated. Characters are well developed and evoke the emotions that they should–either liking or hating them, depending on their role. I have read the 2nd book in the series and am continuing to the 3rd. Be warned that one should aniticpate wanting to read the sequels. The story draws the reader in, perhaps because of one’s knowledge of the period.
Well written. Not boring. Good plot but predictable. Fin to read
Excellent and accurate description of arranged marriages before modern times.
Couldn’t get past the incestuous rape. Didn’t finish.
I like the strong woman characters but am frustrated by the oppression of women by men. It does address the historical aspect of life and I enjoy that part.
The whole “Mannequin” series is an interesting look at English society from the point of view of girls who are outsiders and become part of society by being dress models. Each character has their own charm.
I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction. This read was pretty good.
Great read
Even though this book ended on a cliffhanger, I enjoyed following the process to the end.
I loved this book and wanted to buy the next one but was only on audio ….. will ther be an ebook of the second book….. loved my Scottish heroes
Best part right before the end. Would have liked to know more of what happened at end.
