Wonderful historical fiction! Great accuracy and detailed research, with a full-blooded, gripping story running (and sometimes leaping) from page to page. Excellent read–and even better, the beginning of a series!
Surprise ending, leaves you wondering what happens to all the characters. If this is the beginning of a series.
I enjoyed this book and found the character of Beth to be interesting and strong, in spite of the challenges she faces. The character of Sir Anthony intrigues me – I believe their is more to be revealed – perhaps in the next book. Word of caution however: The book does contain some graphical subject matter (incest and domestic abuse) that some readers may not wish to contend with.
I read the entire series and loved them all.
I bought the sequel as soon as I finished it. It was great.l
This book follows accurate history while inventing wonderful characters to fit into and around history. When I finished the first book I couldn’t wait to get the next, and next. I can’t put them down!!!!
Couldn’t put it down! Would have given 5 stars if not for using my Lord’s name as an expletive. Read all 6 books in the series. Fascinating!
Good story
The first in a captivating historical romance series set during the Jacobite rising. Fast-paced, and with engaging characters. I loved all the books in the series!
I loved this story. And it ends with a cliff hanger. I will definitely have to read the sequels. I love history and especially history of England and Scotland. Loved the characters and the twists and surprises.
Great book, read all series one after the other. Extremely historically accurate.
I read novels EVERY DAY. This is one of the VERY BEST! Anxious to begin the next in the series!
I loved this book, very entertaining.
This hard-to-put-down read is a developing love story between a heroic and adventurous couple set in an exciting time in Scottish history. It is not a bodice-ripper! The characters and their intellectual nuances are well-defined and the book contains a definite viewpoint on the social mores of the time period so is more literary than what is normally published in the romance genre. I look forward to book 2.
Mask of Duplicity by Julia Brannan starts a series of books about the Scottish uprising. The story is engaging, the history interesting, and the characters truly engaging and sometimes evil. A definite change of pace from Science Fiction, but I get some of my best plot ideas from historical fiction.
Great read
Thoroughly enjoyed this historical fiction.
I love a good book about a strong woman who does what is right!
Combines historical setting with intriguing characters who you want to know more about.
Packed with history and very entertaining.
