Put together a tight laced IRS analyst in a Spock costume and place him in a sci-fi convention, trying to stop a murder and you have a great combination of dry humour, danger, misdirection and romance. The main characters in this tale include Alfred, the whinny, witty, old fashioned taxman, Nance, the geeky, upbeat and intelligent agent and the self appointed militaristic bodyguard. The storyline weaves together time travel, the murder plot, constant danger, romance, an unknown tax crime, the chaos of a sci-fI convention to make a great mystery that keeps you engaged until the unexpected ending. The interaction between the three characters is what made this a truly great book to me. I look forward to more books about the taxman.
This review is for the audio book.
I really enjoyed this book, as I am the whole series. The author has a way of making a plot that should be weird really work and each book is so totally different from the last. I am lovely the way she is coming up with new plots for the characters to face with there dry wit and humour. The characters are growing with each book and as they develop you like them a little bit more. I did think it might get a bit confusing having two Alfreds’s in the picture but this is not the case. Can’t wait to start book 4 to see what the author has in store for them next. I would recommend you start with book one because the author doesn’t waste much time going over previous capers (it is mentioned but not in any great detail) and I think it helps to know the background behind the characters, also it great fun.
Nancy is able to talk Alfred into taking time off work and going to a dreaded comic book convention, his worst nightmare. That is until future Alfred comes to tell him Nancy dies in his time line and he MUST stop it. Alfred soon finds out that no matter what he tries he gets another visit and so enlists help from an unlikely source, Josh Nancy’s ex marine/ex boyfriend. Surely the two of them can keep her safe? Alfred thinks getting Nancy away from work, where all the trouble started, should keep her alive but with a ruthless killer on there heels not even costumes and disguises will help. There is only one thing for it….to go boldly where no man has gone before…Well except for all the geek’s.
I liked the narrator and hope he sticks with the series because he has slowly worked his way into the voice of Alfred and I can’t imagine anyone else doing it now.
MarvelousCon & Tax Cons (Time Travelling Taxman Book 3), my third read from author Rachel Ford. This book is so well-written & enjoyable, more of a throwback in style to the first book in the series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. John Carter Aimone’s talented narration adds greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I look forward to the next book in the series, Time Slips & Tax Thieves (Time Travelling Taxman Book 4). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
**** SPOILER ALERT ****
In “MarvelousCon & Tax Cons” Ford delivers superb world building and character development. Particularly for Alfred Favarro, the main protagonist, as he starts to get a klew about how relationships work.
I thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted story. Especially how clever way the author inferred Superman and Spiderman while avoiding actually using the names Superman and Spiderman. You’ll have to get the book to see the cleverness for yourself.
Q: Will Alfred actually have fun at a ‘con?
Q: will Nancy and Alfred stay alive long enough to crack the case?
Q: Will Alfred shut Justin’s snark down?.
A: Get the book and find out the answers!! Better yet, get the boxset with volumes 1-6!
In the interest of transparency: I was given a review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.
I received a free audio copy for an honest review. This is the continuing story of Alfred Favero, senior analyst for the IRS. But, he’d not an ordinary analyst. This is a funny book with engaging characters.
I really love this storyline. I was skeptical at first, a taxman, but am really invested in this story now and love all the characters. I cannot wait to read more. Rachel Ford is a very talented author and I love her books. I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
MarvelousCon & Tax Cons (Time Travelling Taxman, Book 3) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone is a fun one and the best in the series so far! Would recommend if you have been following from the beginning or if you are new and looking for a time travel book. 4 ½ stars for story. 3 stars for narration.
What are Alfred and Nancy up to this time? Nancy unknowingly stumbles upon fraud during a routine tax audit that endangers their lives while attending a Sci-Fi convention called MarvelousCon. From there the time travel adventures begin and poor Josh gets dragged into the mix…again. In the beginning there’s quite a few relationship woes- stick with it because it does pick up and once it does, it’s a fun story. I enjoyed the humor.
The narrator, John Carter Aimone, did an OK job with it. I wish some of the pauses and speech wasn’t so slow at times. Sometimes it works, other times it’s too much. He does voice Alfred well and brings him to life.
Overall I recommend. Your inner nerd will appreciate this one.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: repeat death, minimal swearing (Alfred is a buy the books/innocent kind of guy and doesn’t believe in swearing.

This is another good story of the traveling tax man, it is funny and a total joy to read. You will be entertained in Rachel’s take off the time traveling IRS.

CUTE AND FUNNY | Alfred and Nancy often made me smile so cute of a couple they were. Nerdy, funny and cute. Love it.
INTERESTING STORY – Taxman & girlfriend have a fight. Girlfriend analyses these records (I lack the IQ to understand what they were) and finds some discrepancies…and is murdered! Taxman goes back in time to save his girlfriend and tell himself to go investigate. They go to ComicCon to take ass and kick names! 🙂
What I didn’t like so much: The sentences felt a little clunky. There was some telling instead of showing. I was a little bothered by that. Their time at MarvelousCon (love alternative universe brands, btw) seemed to drag a tad at times, but it’s quite forgivable. The nerdy stuff helps.
4.5 / 5.0

A tax cheat with murder on his agenda, thank goodness for time travel devices! Alfred has his hands full in this book; he has to deal with an obnoxious colleague, jealousy issues, being out of his comfort zone and having to dress up as Dr.Spock, all while he is trying to figure out who and why someone is trying to kill him and Nancy. I enjoyed this book, it is fun and quirky
