I like to think of myself as the good guy.The kind of man that will take a beating or a bullet for my brothers and not think twice about it. But anyone that knows my story has only seen the tip of the proverbial iceberg and my intentions sometimes resemble the Titanic. It’s when I lose control.I do my best to love and respect everyone because some people need it more than others—even the ones that … than others—even the ones that don’t deserve it.
My name is Gareth Bresett and the only thing that matters to me in this world is Bentlee Gains. I’ll do everything I can to keep her safe from every evil in this world, including myself.
Because while I like to think that I’m the good guy, I find more pleasure in taking out a mark than I do being in her arms.
Regardless of who that mark happens to be.

The whole time i was waiting for the twist to come.
In true Yolanda style it came.. and it brought tears to my eyes.
Yolanda never fails to deliver a great story.
What the ever loving
I knew Yolanda’s addition to the series would be a bit twisted and a whole lot darker
But I am torn between heartbroken and revolted
It is Gareth’s turn at the wheel of death and Arthur has sent him clues – but he is having a bit of trouble putting it all together
As the clock slowly ticks down ” tick-tock watch the clock” Gareth is torn between protecting Bentlee and completing his assignment
As Gareth begins to put the pieces together he realizes that this last assignment may take all he has
As I expect from Olson – this is such a twisted and taboo story line
I wish it had been longer!
Martyris by Yolanda Olson is book #3 in the Cavalieri Della Morte Series.
Yolanda is a newish to me, writer, I’ve read a couple co-writes of hers and I’ve definitely been meaning to check out more of her work so I was thrilled when I found out she was participating in this series! Yolanda absolutely did NOT disappoint!
Gareth, another one of the twelve assassins of the Cavalieri Della Morte under Arthur Calthorpe’s control.
He has a new mark. but this one is different than the others. No information, no details, just his to go bag, and that’s it.
Gareth feels like there is more to this hit then he’s aware of. The more and more he searches the fewer answers he has of who his target could possibly be.
But then all of a sudden clues start showing up…
That’s when Gareth realizes that there are only two options for who this target could be.
Bentlee, the only girl he’s ever cared for, the calm to his storm. Or Lance, his best friend, and brother in the Cavalieri Della Morte.
WHO is Gareth’s next hit, Bentlee or Lance, his lover or his best friend?
Gareth has a choice to make, and it won’t be an easy one.
Shew this one was… I can’t even describe it… Just when I thought I knew where Yolanda was going with it… BOOM! Total freakin curveball. I mean seriously, wow. I’m trying to figure out how to put this one is words and… it took me until the day of release to even write this review because I just didn’t want to spoil anything!
If you have read any of the Cavalieri Della Morte series then you know to expect the unexpected, but let me tell you, you will NEVER see the one coming!
Absolutely unexpected, and completely brilliant. I am loving this series!
Go into this one blind you guys. Don’t look at any spoilers, just go read this book!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.
“We’re killers. We’ve been trained for death and glory by the deadliest man in the world.”
Martyris is part of a series of interconnected standalones, each book features a killer, assassin for The Cavalieri Della Morte. This is Gareth’s story, Book #3. All the books are standalones, I reiterate.
WOW! Yolanda Olson played with my brains and I liked it. This one completely blindsided me! I did not see that coming. I have an urge to re-read to look for hints. Gareth’s story is a complete mystery from start to finish. Foreboding undertones keep you on the edge of your seat. Gareth, a savage killer with a soft spot for Bentlee, his favorite girl. And I think she really was a girl, possibly related to him.
Hahahaha! I’m not entirely sure. Everything was written like you were given answers yet nothing you could use to figure out who the target ultimately was. I absolutely loved the not knowing. Gareth’s passion was brutal and I soaked up his twisted. I definitely didn’t get enough. My only complaint, I wanted more, dammnit.
“While I don’t shy away from taking a life, and enjoy it more than the rest of them, I don’t like how I lose control when it happens. I become something else. The Boogeyman in the closet watching children sleep. The monster under the bed that tries to grab your ankle and drag you into a dark and terrifying abyss.”
I ended up finishing this story with my mouth wide open. A shocking end! I loved Olson’s addition to this series. Plus there’s mention of the other assassins, I’m eager to meet each and every one. A stellar job keeping me in my toes. Well played!
Yolanda has managed to freeze the hell over and make me cry
It’s tragically poignant story, a very short one albeit, of Gareth the killer of Cavalieri Della morte organisation.
He’s ruthless, merciless and heartless
a job is a job is a job………
We’re killers. We’ve been trained for death and glory by the deadliest man in the world. I don’t shy away from taking life and I never will, but some people need to be saved.
He loves nothing more than to finish his assignment with no traces left behind
But this time, the mark is on his own back
I seriously had my eyes moist at the end. Who knew yoly had it in her to make me feel!!
Give the pigs the wings and ice skates to hell-dwellers!!
Impossible is nothing
4 stars for X marks the spot
I so enjoyed this story. I was addicted with what was going to happen next through out this whole mystery /suspense read. For a short story it’s packed a full story punch. You follow Gareth as he is assigned his next target . The author makes you fell as you are right there with Gareth as everything plays out. And the ending…!!!! sorry, no spoilers
Martyris was a suspenseful, dark, twisted and gripping read. Gareth was such an intriguing character that I absolutely loved. Throughout his story he kept me constantly guessing as I tried to piece things together. Just when I thought I had figured everything out my jaw dropped as I realized how wrong I was. Martyris was a quick-paced and captivating read that definitely packed an unexpected punch and has me intrigued with what’s to come next for the Cavalieri!
This is an amazing take on a story I know little about (though will find more now). The way Yolanda brought this character to today, and the way the story played out was amazing. Definitely chilling, in a way only Yolanda knows how to make it.
Omg that was Brilliant and unexpected! Gareth Bresett one of Arthur Calthorpe’s Assassins. Bentlee Gains is his little slice of heaven that he would do anything for. Gareth gets an assignment but this one is different than his others. No information to go on just grab your bag and figure out the target. However, when he finally figures out the mark will he be able to follow through? This Assassin may be a cold blooded killer, but he is one with a heart of gold! I am loving this whole Cavalieri Della Mort series and cannot wait for the next book! Bravo Yolanda!
The ending to this had my jaw dropping for more than one reason. You truly get a sense for the characters; you know where they stand and what they would do for those they love, no matter how much it might pain them. Very well done, and will be one I read more than once!!
I can’t even with this book! This book is just 1 of I believe 13 that are set in the same universe. All the books mention the same characters. So you may read a name but not know the full background because that’s in another book. I’m totally cool with that. I want to read all the books to know all the details. But this book is about Gareth. He’s a deadly assassin the best of the best. You send him to torture a guy. As the book begins he’s killing a man. Of course he deserves it or so Gareth says. Then you meet a few of his colleagues. He’s barely home before receiving another assignment. All he wants to do is stay in bed with his girl Bentlee. But he also knows that when the boss man sends for him, he’s got to go. The only thing is Gareth seems to be having a problem figuring out who the target is! And the time to figure it out, is running out! If you have ever read this authors books then you know what to expect from her. BUT THIS BOOK STARTS OFF VERY DIFFERENT. Sure there’s blood, But stick with it to the end. It’s very surprising!
