Perhaps one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented characters of the New Testament is Martha. Often painted in the colors of reproach, Martha seems to be the poster child for how not to be a follower of Jesus. From the mind of Diana Wallis Taylor comes this touching, well-researched portrayal of Martha of Bethany, sister of Mary and Lazarus. Through Taylor’s lush descriptions and inspired … inspired combination of imagined and recorded dialogue, Martha’s world–her trials, triumphs, and loves–vibrantly comes to life. Follow Martha as she is jilted by her betrothed, falls in love with a Roman soldier, grieves the death of her father, cares for her siblings, and serves her Lord with dignity and grace. Readers will never read the biblical story of Martha the same way again.

Strongly based on the information found in the New Testament, MARTHA makes the biblical characters come alive as more emotion is added to each person: Martha, her sister Mary, and their brother Lazarus. This was a good read. Enjoyable.
I enjoyed this description of the down to earth keeper of home and hearth.
Wonderful story of what life could be like in time of Jesus and Martha and family
Well written, true to the Bible
One book I could read again. Very informative of life in the first century. Highly recommend
Great Easter story. Most events very authentic and biblically accurate.
Fasanating
I prefer inspirational, Christian books.
characters are nicely developed in a believable way. The character of Martha has often been misunderstood. Her relationship with her sister Mary is particularly well drawn.
reading about a women who had dealings with Jesus, was amazing
Very good book hard to put down.
Biblically correct and great read. Brought the story of Lazarus alive for me. Loved it
I loved this book! You feel like you were there.
Mesu Andrews make s this Bible story come to life.
A lot of anachronistic impositions of modern-day Jewish practices on first century Jewish families.
A wonderful interpretation of what the lives of Martha, Mary, Lazarus and many other people who knew and walked with Jesus.
I love these biblical fiction books that give me a glimpse into Jesus’s life and his message.
I didn’t like this book much. I felt the characters and story were not well researched and the book was boring. It didn’t reflect a 1st century perspective but was too 21st century in its outlook. Also, it strayed from the biblical narrative in unacceptable ways. It actually changed what was in scripture at times.
Enjoyed this portrayal of a wonderful biblical woman. Although fictional, it was filled with truths. A great read.
I thought this was going to be a true story but i cannot find anywhere in the Bible this story of Martha’s romances. Part true about Lazarus but don’t understand mixing of truth and fiction.
The author did a great job of filling in the blanks around the few of verses of Martha from the Bible. Great read.
