The second in the Marriage of Convenience series, this is quiet Lily’s story. Lady Lily is the youngest of the late earl of Rutherford’s children, the plain one who can’t read. She’s an heiress, though, and expected to make a good marriage—except she wants to marry for love and not buy a husband. Her naivete and inability to read lead her into an abduction from which the aloof rake, Edward Galbraith, rescues her. No matter how carefully he plans, their reputations are ultimately ruined by small minds. This is a true love story, one where two vulnerable, wounded people help each other work through their flaws despite all the obstacles stacked against them. Another wonderful Anne Gracie romance!
I read this one and its series-sister, Marry in Haste, on a looooong plane ride, but as the rest of the world went about (actually about half the world), I was in Regency England, falling in love, consulting with my heroine-posse, rooting for a hero who truly was a decent guy… Such a treat! Anne Gracie knows how to turn a phrase and pluck a heartstring, and this book was nothing short of enchanting.
Love all of Anne’s writing and this didn’t disappoint. More please!
Can a emotionally damaged hero and heroine save each other? This is my favorite trope because I love to see how two people help each other and find love in the end. Lady Lily Rutherford has a secret. She has always struggled with the ability to read and write but is really smart and has a great memory. But Lily is a heiress and thus she is abducted by a scoundrel from her past who wants her money. She is able to get way and is rescued by none other than Ned Galbraith, a renowned rake with no plans to marry. They had met at Lily brother’s Cal wedding when Ned was the best man so it seemed all might be well! But as fate would have it, they were seen together alone and as the strictures of the times dictated, they had to marry to save her reputation. There is so much to this story that grabbed me from the first page and left a smile as I turned the last. I love sweet Lily and her spirit even as she has faced so many barriers and it is wonderful to see problems we face today shown with her character. The same for Ned because he was mentally wounded from his time in the war and we see that now in so many men and women in the armed forces. As Lily and Ned wed for convenience, can there be more? Can they heal each other? Anne Gracie’s wonderful prose and detail to the characters make this a perfect story, filled with a lot of delightful secondary characters who will keep you entertained. I am looking forward to more in this series, although this can be read as a stand alone book. Do not let this one pass you by!
I love the worlds Anne Gracie’s creates, and the careful craftsmanship that goes into every story. Her books are not predictable, and I never skip pages because I love her prose. Her books always land on my keeper shelf, too. I love this entire series and highly recommend Married in Scandal!
Marry in Scandal by Anne Gracie is book Two in the Marriage of Convenience series. This is the story of Lady Lily Rutherford and Edward Galbraith. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Lily was holding out for a true courtship and true love but a mishap has her tied to Edward. Lily has a disability that made her wish for the true love part as to ease her life into a marriage. But moving forward Lily tries to find love with Edward but he won’t open up to her and is standing on a marriage of convenience.
Edward knows of Lily’s Innocent and of her friendship with his sister but with one kiss is all it takes to opens him to seeing her as more. Edward has past issues that he hasn’t dealt with that make what Lily wants from him hard to give but he wants her.
Ms. Gracie knows who to write a book that takes you through so many emotions! I am just crazy about her books and this one did not disappoint!
I ENJOYED READING THE STORY.
I really enjoyed the story and characters in this book.
I am enjoying this series by Anne Gracie. Her story was engaging as were her characters. I like the strength of her heroines. I read a lot of “Regency Romance” and appreciate it when there are twists to the “formula”.
