Wallflowers and rakes do seldom mix well. Miss Chloe Larkin is completely assured of that. Especially when said rake is a member of the Waverly family—the people responsible for a feud that has been ongoing since practically the dawn of time. But he comes offering a deal… solved. Now. His ageing father cannot take much more of the stress and he’s determined the problem shall be resolved before he comes to inherit.
So he needs her help…
Chloe is distrustful of Mr.Waverly—and rightly so. Not only is he her lifelong enemy but he has a reputation that would make the most experienced of women blush. And boy does he make this wallflower blush! However, she has little interest in continuing the silly feud and, with her little brother set to inherit one day and her father’s failing health, the sooner it is all over, the better.
Working with the handsome, and far too charming Mr.Waverly to get their fathers to come to an agreement is…interesting. Especially when he seems to be less concerned with ending the feud and more interested in her. Can she really trust him or is this just another way for his family to get their revenge on hers?

This is an entertaining, romantic and dramatic story. The Waverleys and Larkins have fueding for centuries, even though no one remembers what started it. The current generation, being Brook Waverley and Chloe Larkins, want to end the feud. The current gripe is about a parcel of land at the edge of the estates, and both sides move the dividing fence to where they want it, then the other side has it moved to where they want it. It’s a constant battle that both fathers want fixed their way as soon as it’s discovered. Brook and Chloe begin meeting to try to figure out a way to end the feud, and start to fall in love. The problem is Chloe is positive that someone as good looking and charming as Brook could never be interested in plain, wallflower her. And Brook not only isn’t looking to marry, he doesn’t like Chloe. For Chloe the feeling is mutual. The harder they try to fix things, the worse they get. Brook and Chloe are amusing and stubborn, and very likable, and I enjoyed reading their story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I enjoyed this first book in Ms. Holt’s new series & it is basically a Hatfield vs McCoy family feud that has gone on for years. This particular feud which has gone on for centuries was based on a small strip of land that separated the Waverly & Larkin estates – our hero is widely known rake, Brooke Waverly & our heroine is wallflower/bluestocking, Chloe Larkin & their fathers are still at each other’s throats.
This was an entertaining read as Brook & Chloe try to figure a way to end the feud between their families as both their fathers are older & they worry about the stress of the feud. The two most unlikely people you would envision to work together on solving a problem are now falling for each other. Now how is that going to work out?
I highly recommend this quick, clean romantic story – you will enjoy Brook & Chloe’s personalities & humor.
The Waverly’s and the Larkin’s have been feuding for centuries. Brook Waverly wants to end the feud and get Chloe Larkin in to help him. Chloe is a wallflower who loves to read and Brooks is her total opposite and has a reputation of a rake. Chloe and Brook’s end out falling in love as they try to bring their families together. I loved the way their relationship started out innocent and they ended up truly falling in love. This book is filled with humor, family drama and a sweet clean romance.
Chloe is a wallflower of the ultimate kind. She would rather be in a library then a ballroom. Brook is a rake who is in the ballrooms to go from women to women. Add a family feud to the mix and you have an amazing read
Highly entertaining cross feud forbidden romance with a fun lets end this now solution. Really enjoyed reading this engaging journey filled with lots of witty banter, interesting charters and undeniable had to ignore passion. Great reading!
MARRIED TO THE RAKE is the first book in the Wallflower Brides series. Each will be a stand-alone historical romance, but why would you read just one?
Three wallflowers have made it to the end of another Season. Chloe is a true introvert and bookworm. Joanna was recently widowed after a short marriage. Augusta is a romantic and has been engaged for two years. She bides her time until her fiancé returns from his world travels – not that her friends believe that he will.
I loved that this one could almost be classified as a “clean romance.” It was more about the emotions and the seduction of heart and mind than about seducing the body. I loved the sneaking away to be together for the good of their families and slowly falling in love. I loved that he knew first and she was hard to convince. I loved that it was all absolutely swoon-worthy.
This is a wonderful story and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

The Waverlys and the Larkins have been involved in a centuries old feud over a parcel of land, an of late, the heads of the two families have added their rivalry over a women to the pot. Brook Waverly wants to find a way to end the feud, and he enlists the aid of Chloe Larkin. These two are nothing alike. She is a wallflower; he has a rakish reputation. Despite that and the fact that their fathers heartily object, they fall in love. Brook and Chloe face an uphill battle in resolving the feud and in being together. Is there no way to convince their fathers to talk and try to work things out between the families? Hope seems lost until an impish little brother and a voice from the past enter the picture. I really enjoyed Married to the Rake. It is a cute story with likable characters and a wonderful start to a new series. I happily recommend it.
This was Book 1 of “The Wallflower Brides” series and I found this book to be a very enjoyable read with the wonderfully written storyline and characters that were so well detailed that I had a hard time putting this book down, so I ended up reading this book in one sitting! I look forward to reading the next book in this series!
This is a sweet read that deals with trusting others. The characters are believable and personable. This is a must read.

Married To The Rake by Samantha Holt
Chloe Larkin and Brook Waverly start spending time together to try and come up with a way to end the feud between the two families. The feud has been going on for generations and they are tired of it. The more time they spend together the closer they become. they fall in love and have to convince the families to let them marry. I really enjoyed this book. and would recommend it for someone looking for a good book to read. I received an arc for a honest review.
One plain looking bookworm wallflower with a sassy tongue? One rake with a past he can’t get past? One scorned lover attempting to break them up before they can even get together? Their families feuding over some nondescript strip of land on their boarders? Why could these family men not make amends? Did it really have to do with the land or was it something from their shared past that caused the rift? Brook Waverly’s father’s health was failing and this feud was not helping. He decides to enlist the help of Chloe Larkin. As enemies he knew it would not be easy to sway her to help him. She did give him a hard time but eventually agreed to assist. Over many clandestine meetings they talked and plotted. Little by little unbeknownst to either of them they were beginning to have feelings for each other. But that in and of itself caused a lot of problems for Chloe who felt she was not a beauty nor especially attractive. She knew she was plain. But Brook did not see her that way. He found her pleasingly feisty, intelligent, a little wild and very beautiful in his eyes. Chloe also felt insecure because of how handsome Brook was and what would he want with her? Anyway, they tried here and there will little success to get their fathers together to reconcile. Frustrated, Brook came up with an outside the box solution. Chloe excitedly agreed. But when the time came to move forward with the plan, Brook’s past came back to bite him on the @ss. Chloe turned away. Brook was beside himself not knowing what to do. In the meantime, back at the Larkin residence, Chloe’s younger brother found a small diary of someone important to both her father and Brook’s father’s past. She knew she had the winning hand if peace was to be sought. I loved these characters. So funny and fun to read. It is a feud that leads to romance and commitment. A lovely story and a quick read. Very enjoyable.
it’s sure to be a hit.
I love wallflowers they make the most interesting characters and Miss Chloe Larkin was a hoot. Mr. Brook Waverley and our Miss Chloe fall in love there is a problem their fathers hate each other. You will love the dialogue in this piece. Every plot tried to ending the feud fails will they find a way or will there be a bit of mistrust added into the mix. The book was engaging, unpredictable, and outrageously wonderful from start to finish. This is one you would not go wrong with if you pick it up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A sweet romance! Chloe and Brook decide to form an alliance to heal an old family rift. The story becomes a little hilarious when the two fathers try to go to blows when they encounter each other. It shows that opposites do attract and that family is still important. A quick read that will leave you with a smile.

I love Samantha Holt. She gives suspense a sense of humor by giving heartache a heart. Chloe and Waverly have a situation on their hands. How do they end a feud between the families they both love? Could LOVE have been the answer all along? Married to the Rake is an uphill battle that proves to be worth the climb.
Even with a weak plot, I still enjoyed this quick romantic read. Chloe is a wallflower and ok with it. She would rather be in the library buried in her favorite books. Brook is a rake and content in his lifestyle. Their families have been feuding for years but they both agree it is time that it ended. Every plot to end the feud fails miserably. But Brook comes up with what he feels is the perfect solution. The characters were not very complicated but easy to like. I only wish the story had not been so predictable.

Hatfields and McCoys? Here we have the Larkins and the Waverleys. Chloe and Brook decide to work together to settle the dispute never thinking it was about more than the land. Chloe finds it difficult to trust him because of his reputation as a rake. This is a well crafted story that moves well without unpleasant jumps between scenes, wonderful characters and a happy-ever-after. This is a good choice for an afternoon’s read.

Chloe Larkin and Brook Waverly’s families have been feuding for generations over where their border lines actually lay. They combine forces to bring their fathers together to end this when it is discovered that they also spared over a woman years ago, who was engaged to Brook’s father, but married Chloe’s father. There were plenty of funny moments and they discover the more time they spend together that a rake and bluestocking wallflower can fall for each other despite family objections.
This is a story of love and redemption, a story of what can happen when you allow yourself to be vulnerable. There is a closed door steamy scene in the last two or three paragraphs of the book.
Brook wants to make peace between his family, the Waverleys, and their neighbors the Larkins. Though Chloe Larkin seems to despise him, he decides that she is the one to help him create that peace. He wants to forge a bond between the families before the stress of the enmity gives his father a heart attack. Little would he have guessed that there was more to Chloe than met the eye…if only she could see him beyond the gossip. Can these two ever get along long enough to convince their families to reconcile. Is this only about reconciliation?
