Wallflowers and rakes do seldom mix well. Miss Chloe Larkin is completely assured of that. Especially when said rake is a member of the Waverly family—the people responsible for a feud that has been ongoing since practically the dawn of time. But he comes offering a deal… solved. Now. His ageing father cannot take much more of the stress and he’s determined the problem shall be resolved before he comes to inherit.
So he needs her help…
Chloe is distrustful of Mr.Waverly—and rightly so. Not only is he her lifelong enemy but he has a reputation that would make the most experienced of women blush. And boy does he make this wallflower blush! However, she has little interest in continuing the silly feud and, with her little brother set to inherit one day and her father’s failing health, the sooner it is all over, the better.
Working with the handsome, and far too charming Mr.Waverly to get their fathers to come to an agreement is…interesting. Especially when he seems to be less concerned with ending the feud and more interested in her. Can she really trust him or is this just another way for his family to get their revenge on hers?

I love a good “enemies to lovers” story. Samantha Holt definitely doesn’t disappoint with this one! The characters were excellent and I couldn’t stop reading.
Chloe and Brook are trying to put an end to a feud between their families that has been going on for centuries. Little do they know though that the extreme level of hatred between the two patriarchs has almost nothing to do with the actual land they are disputing. Come along as the author takes us on a journey of mystery and a love that can never be. Or can it?

I enjoyed reading this captivating story that is fantastically written with charismatic characters and witty dialogue. A great 1st book for the series. Their story has a good HEA.
As per usual a very enjoyable read from Samantha Holt
Sweet story.
Didn’t bother to finish it.
Samantha Holt really knows how to grab the reader’s attention and hold on to it. A true page turner that I can very confidently recommend! Awesome characters, even the secondary! Storyline has me reaching for more!
This story revolves around a family feud that has been going on for years and years. A son and a daughter torn between what’s right and each other’s family. The story started well and ended well.
Loved this. I’ll be reading more from this author. It kept me reading thru the night. An easy beach read.
Easy read, good characters,
Samantha Holt has been fabulous for ever.
Disappointingly Boring
I tried to like Married to a Rake by Samantha Holt, but sadly it was too boring with too much angst and only marginally likable characters. I kept putting this book down and almost stopped reading by the 50% point. Since the ending was not satisfying, I wish I had not wasted my time and quit earlier.
Content 411: This book contains some mild swearing and kissing, but no sex. It is suitable for any age reader.
enjoyable light read (Mills & Boone)
Miss Chloe Larkin is comfortable with being a wallflower. She would rather sneak off to the library during a ball than dance. Brook Waverly is the opposite, he loves balls and has the reputation for being a rake. The Larkins and Waverlys have been feuding since the 13th century. One thing they have in common is the desire to stop the fighting and live peacefully. One thing they did not expect was the palatable attraction they would feel for each other.
This is a delightful, heartwarming historical romance and an enemy to lovers story. The story is told from the point of view of the two main characters. The characters themselves are engaging, complete with strengths and faults. The narrative is well crafted and gives the reader a sense of the time period in which the story takes place. It also provides insights into the emotions, motivations and actions of the characters. The dialogue is wonderfully done with whit, humour and romance. The author takes us on an emotional rollercoaster as the characters deal with their pasts, trust issues, insecurities, fears and the barriers that are put on them. The have a lot of issues to overcome if they even have a chance to be truly happy. The well written storyline flows smoothly and quickly filled with just the right balance of humour, romance, obstacles, twists and surprises. I enjoyed this story and was so engaged, I read it one sitting. If you love enemies to lovers historical stories with great characters, you will most likely love this book.

I have not read a bad book from this author yet and this book is no exception! The great plot and character development kept me so engaged throughout the entire book that I had a very hard time putting this book down until the very last page was turned!

This one was a kindle unlimited recommendation. Feuding families, scheming children, and an adorable little brother…what’s not to love? Gotta tell you I loved this one all the way to the ending, and then I had a little slightly frustrated sigh. The rake decided that he had enough honor to treat the girl next door with the respect she deserved all the way to the last page, and no he doesn’t get a pass because it was her idea. But it was still a cute mending fences and ending feuds story!

This was a charming story very similar to Romeo and Juliet but with a much happier ending. Chloe Larkin and Brook Waverly plot to bring their families out of a century old feud. They discover that not only is a piece of land being fought over but a woman from both of their fathers past. Both men were in love with the same woman. She married Chloe’s father but then shortly after, passed away. Thus locking both men in a bitter feud.
Chloe and Brook continue to plot away and each time fail in bringing about peace. In the meantime, both discover feeling for each other. Chloe is a bookish wallflower and Brook is a definite rogue. In fact, one of the ladies in his past wants to become his future by ingraining herself with his mother.
This book was written in my favorite dual POV format. Seeing into the characters’ thoughts really was a delightful read. I was charmed by Brook’s rapport with Chloe. His tender love in bringing forth her charming character and not trying to change her love of books and not going to balls.
If you prefer a sweet, clean romance, then you will love this one. I adored the characters and look forward to more in this series.
Interesting and entertaining characters and story. Like history thrown in. Fun to read interpretation of those times and how romance may have been. Good conversation and background for story.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book in the Wallflower Brides series and it was just such a great read. I just didn’t want it to end. I just fell in love with these characters and getting to go along on their journey. I can’t wait to read more wonderful stories from this author.
A different take on Romeo and Juliet. Their father’s are fighting over a track of land and Chloe and Brook try to stop the feud because they see what it’s doing to their father’s health. While working together, they begin to have feelings for each other, which of course they deny. There are a few twists and turn as to the true reason for the fight and also regarding the feelings between a rogue and a bluestocking. Can they work it out in the end? Nice, light read.
