Going from vivacious society belle to widow wallflower can leave a lady wanting… charity.
Unfortunately, her sudden interest in all things philanthropic is marred by the presence of one Ambrose Creasey. For some unknown reason, this handsome cad has decided to cast aside his reputation as a rake, and take up the mantel of charitable patron.
As the Earl of Newhaven, Ambrose has enjoyed his life of delicious debauchery. But recently the earl has hungered for more noble pursuits. A charity seems to be the perfect outlet for his newfound desire to be more than just a rake. And of course, he doesn’t mind the aid of a beautiful, well-connected woman like Joanna… Especially when he cannot resist riling her a time or two.
After all, she does rise so beautifully to the challenge.
Focusing on their work is harder than either of them thought. There’s no denying the attraction between them, but is Ambrose truly prepared to cast aside his hedonistic history? And even if he does, is Joanna ready for a new love?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was funny, flirtatious and realistic. The H and h were facing a crossroads in their life. In the countryside the h was avoiding grieving for the loss of her husband. She kept busy instead. To the worry of her mother and her two best friends. She heard of a charity hospital being built in her area and became involved. In London the H tired of roguish raking ways felt a yearning for something meaningful for his life and he knew not what to do about it. He heard about the charity hospital that was to be built in the countryside and decided that would be a good place as any to start his search for his life purpose. When the H and h met, he was fascinated with her. They exchanged witty barbs and resisted any attraction between them. This story deals with real human emotions, real raw feelings that help the h and H at the crossroads in their life decide which direction to take. A fabulous story. When I got to the last page, I was sad because I did not want the story to end. It was that good. I do recommend it.
When charity work for a bored young widow and a rake looking to reform turns into a true love neither were expecting! I have just about everything Samantha Holt has written so when I had the opportunity to review this new book I picked it up immediately. Joanna and Ambrose meet when they both decide to invest time into the same charity, which was established by the great-grandfather of Ambrose. They had moved in the same social circle but really only knew each other by reputation and therefore have some misconceptions to overcome. I really liked the banter between them as well as the not always below the surface attraction! The journey to their HEA was not at all smooth but they did get there and I was delighted to watch it all play out! It was nice to meet up with Chloe and Augusta again from the other Wallflower Brides books and see how they were doing with their own happy-ever-afters!

A widow and a rake
A young widow looks for something worthy in her life. An Earl who’s spent his time drinking and wenching, decides after one binge too many to make his life more worthy. Both look at one of his family’s charities… and at each other. A charming rake and a beautiful widow find out they need each other. A delightful romance.
A regency romance between a recent widow and a rake with his charity in the background of it all. Good characters. A flowing storyline.

Will she or won’t see allow herself to love again?
Still mourning the death of her husband, Mrs. Joanna Lockhart needs a focus for her energies and a way to avoid her grief. Helping to assist the funding of a local children’s hospital seems like a good idea, until …..
Tired of his wasted life, Ambrose Creasey, the Earl of Newhaven decides to apply himself to his family’s charity. Becoming involved seems like a good idea until ….
I really liked the way Married to the Earl began, and I enjoyed both the story and the main characters up until chapter seventeen. Not only was the bedroom scene very descriptive, but the story and characters seemed to just go off the rails as the angst level rose. For the last nine chapters, I just pushed through to the quick, but happy ending.
Content 411: There is both secular and religious swearing as well as passionate kissing and a descriptive sexually intimate scene.

The widow and the rake.
I love Samantha Holt’s books and this one is a great addition to my collection. Joanna a widow is being treated like a china doll and then when she gets sick things got even worse. Looking for an outlet she turns to charity work. Ambrose is a rake but wants to change so he looks into charity work too. I loved the back and forth between these two characters. This was such a fun book to read it is a bit longer than most books I review but trust me you will love every minute you spend reading Joanna and Ambrose’s story. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I loved this sweet story! I thought the storyline and characters were wonderful full of emotion, drama, forgiveness and humility. They looked beyond their imperfections and found the real person along with true love.

Second chance at love. After losing her husband while still a young woman, Joanna has been in mourning. She is adrift and decides to do charity work to keep busy. She chooses a children’s hospital near her home and wants to raise funds to keep it running. Unfortunately Ambrose, the Earl of Newhaven and a rake and a rogue, has leant his support and donated the building that will become the hospital. And because he has become dissatisfied with his life and has decided to take a more active role in the hospital, she will be working closely with him. He is intrigued with Joanna and she starts to see a different side to him. But not only is she still in mourning but she hasn’t really dealt with the grief and the loss of her husband. Until she does she won’t be ready to move on. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Joanna is still dealing with the death of her husband. She has just helped her two friends find their HEA, but that is not enough for her. She needs something worthwhile to do and is tired of being treated like porcelain doll. She decides to volunteer with a charity. Even though the Earl of Newhaven’s family started and runs the charity, she never imagined that the rake would ever take a part in the day to day operations of it.
Ambrose has decided that he needs more in his life and has given up his former pursuits. He decides that working for his family’s charity is the best place to start. He never imagined that he would be able to spend his days with the delectable Joanna. While is started as a physical attraction, the more time he spent with her, the harder he fell.
Is Ambrose really ready to give up his reckless ways and is Joanna ready for a new love?
I loved Joanna and Ambrose’s story!! The bantering between these two had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed Ambrose embracing his new life and helping Joanna get past her grief of the loss of her husband. Joanna had been such a rock for her friends in the other two books in the series, that it was nice to see someone take care of her.
I really enjoyed this series and can’t wait to see what Holt comes up with next!
Another great read my Samantha Holt! This is the 3rd book in the series The Wallflower Brides but it can be read as a stand-alone book. I enjoyed this book about Ambrose and Joanna. Ambrose was an Earl who was feeling empty inside, Joanna was a too young widow who didn’t know what to do with her life. This is the story of them meeting and falling in love. Like all of Samantha Holts books I really enjoyed this and the time flew by while I was reading the book.
I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout for my honest opinion.
Samantha Holt has done it again! She has taken a reformed rake and a grieving widow and given us an incredible story. I love this book! Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, is a rake but wakes up one day and he is tired of all of the parties and debauchery. He wants to do something to have meaning in his life. Mrs. Joanna Lockhart is grieving the death of her huband Noah and recovering from a sudden illness herself which leaves her bored. Both of them decide they need something to do with their time and find they are on the same children’s hospital project. As Ambrose and Joanna get to know each other, they learn more about themselves. I would definitely recommend this book.

This story is about a young widow and a “rake and rogue” who meet because of a charity established by his father. Joanna has never really mourned for her husband and has immersed herself in activities that help her avoid the issue. Ambrose is getting tired of his purposeless life. They both have a journey to travel to ending their own emotional problems. These characters seem like real individuals and are wonderful for each other. I enjoyed this different take on a “Regency” style story.

Ambrose is a rank. He is coming to realize that he needs a purpose to his life other then doing the rank lifestyle. Joanna is a widow of under a year. She is also looking for a purpose in her life now that is has changed with the death of her husband.
These two both decide on the same purpose of helping build and operate a new children’s hospital. But they may be two completely different types of people they seem to have a spark too.
Joanna Lockhart is trapped in a mire of grief and boredom. Still recovering from the sudden death of her husband Noah, she is tired of being treated like a fragile porcelain doll. But when a severe illness nearly claims her life, Joanna finds the perfect outlet for her natural vitality—a charity.
Unfortunately, her sudden interest in all things philanthropic is marred by the presence of one Ambrose Creasey the Earl of Newhaven. For some unknown reason, this handsome cad has decided to cast aside his reputation as a rake, and take up the mantel of charitable patron.
Ambrose has enjoyed his life of delicious debauchery but recently he’s been unsettled & starting to hungered for more noble pursuits. A charity seems to be the perfect outlet for his newfound desire to be more than just a rake. Focusing on their work is harder than either of them thought.
This is the third book in the series & can easily be read on its own. A well written book that flows well & drew me in from the start. I love Joanna who had been happily married albeit for a sort time, so refreshing for a widow to actually have loved her husband & be grieving for him. Ambrose is very jaded at the start & needs to find an outlet, where better than the charity that bears his name. I loved how he fell hard & fast for Joanna but she wasn’t ready to move on. There’s no denying the attraction between them, which only grows. It was how they both coped with their burgeoning romance that is a delight. I also loved the stalwart Bram whose facial expressions were more than a thousand words
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This was a wonderfully written story with characters you will love from the beginning & Samantha Holt pulls you in to their lives & you experience the changes that both must make in order to obtain their HEA.
Mrs. Joanna Lockhart was the bell of the ball in her come out season & was married & settled quickly. But the happiness was not meant to last aas her husband, Noah experienced sudden death & shortly after his death, Joanna became extremely ill. She has been at her parents house being nursed back to health & she is full of grief & bored to tears with nothing to do.
Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, is the Ton’s definition of a rake & rogue but it is something Ambrose has become a little jaded with all the drinking, partying, womanizing & waking up with such bloody hangovers. He would like to do something with his time that meant a good deed done & was appreciated.
Ambrose had attended social functions in Joanna’s general social circle for many years, but they rarely spent time together. Joanna decided to do some fundraising for a hospital that is being built just 10 miles from her home. Ambrose decides to take a “hand ons” position in the charity that was set up by his family several years ago & the newly purchased building that would be a children’s hospital in the country to aid the people who do not live in London. This is where they meet to begin working with one another & to begin the change that each one needs to make.
This couple has such a wonderful story & romantic but bumpy journey to their touching love story. I highly recommend this beautifully written story – it keeps you turning pages & leaves you with a smile & a sigh. I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
I liked this book. The story was a bit cute and quite fun. I thought that Joanna and Ambrose had good chemistry and I very much enjoyed their banter. This book has a lot of sweetness to it and I found this romance very easy to read.
Book three in the Wallflower Brides series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone with secondary characters the same throughout the series. Told in dual POV with HEA. At thirty Ambrose is bored with his life and looking for a purpose. Joanna is a young widow looking to keep busy during her mourning. Doing charitable work brings them together, and I liked that they got to know each other. I enjoyed his pursuit of her and her ability to let go of how she thought her life should be. Super sweet, but I would have loved an epilogue!
This is a beautiful love story, well written, entertaining and holds your attention. Joanna, a widow, decides upon a charity she wants to assist during her mourning period and there she meets Ambrose, whose father started the charity. He wants more out of life than just being a rake and womanizer. The attraction is almost instant and so the story proceeds. Its a wonderful story of simply two people falling in love. I would highly recommend the book as a great read.

Samantha Holt has delivered another delightful book. This book can be read in less than a day and it can be read as a stand alone with a happily ever after.
After being widowed shortly after her marriage and then almost dying herself after being extremely ill, Mrs. Joanna Lockhart has decided it is time to start living again. Although she can not partake in society as she wishes since she is still in mourning, she can do other things to occupy her time. One of which is charity work. Her choice of charity to throw herself into ends up being The Creasey Children’s Charity.
Ambrose Creasey, The Earl of Newhaven, has become disenchanted with his life as a rake and rogue. He decides that he needs to change his life, and what better way than to spend some time on the charity that his family funds?
As Ambrose and Joanna begin working together to raise funds to build a hospital, he becomes fascinated with her intelligence and wit. Will he be able to convince Joanna that he is more than a rake?
