In the fourth novel in Anne Bishop’s New York Times bestselling series, the Others will need to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and their community… Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the dynamic between humans and Others has changed. … between humans and Others has changed. Some, such as Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn see the closer companionship as beneficial.
But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to safeguard what is theirs…

I really wanted to give this book four stars, because I love the series, but it didn’t quite deliver its promises. The retribution of the Elders that’s been building for the past couple of books finally happened — and made no emotional impact. Partly this is because the enemy didn’t get their POV chapters like in earlier books, so I just didn’t care what happened to some nameless and faceless masses. Partly it was because the human attacks against the Others were against new characters that I didn’t have a chance to bond with. In general, there were too many new characters with their own chapters and not enough time given to old characters. There especially wasn’t enough Meg and Simon, together or separate. Their weird courtship only got a brief attention at the very end. I missed them and the warmth of their Courtyard before all the new people flocked in, hogging the attention. I hope there’s more of them in the next book.
The World of the Others is truly original urban fantasy – love the point of view of the terra indigene! This whole series is worth the read.
Love the series.
Anne Bishop is one of my absolute favorite authors. The Others Series is wonderful!!!! Can’t wait for the next one.!!!!!
Love this creative series.
Marked in Flesh is the fourth book in the Others series and I just really enjoyed getting to reenter this world and see Meg and Simon again. In this book you meet a lot more characters and you get to see things from their perspective. I enjoyed their point of view, but I really wished there had been more with Meg or Simon or some of the other characters from Lakeside that I have come to know and love. This book was really interesting and I was just on the edge of my seat trying to see what would happen next. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series.
I highly recommend everything that Ms. Bishop has written; especially the this series.
I love this series. I’ve been slowly reading them because I like to savor the books and don’t want to finish them. I love these characters, this unique world Bishop has created, and the humor she adds to the story. This is seriously a gem of a series.
A brave, stunning new world that forces new readers to dive right in — no tour guide, no diving suit, not floatation devices strapped around your middle. Sink or swim; and if you swim; if it will a glorious experience.
Love the world created here.
Vision in Silver ended with an unsettling phone call mysteriously made by the Elders to Simon. Now Simon and the Courtyard residents struggle to figure out what the Elders meant when they said they should decide “how much human they are going to keep.”
“We can’t trust humans anymore.”
“Did we ever trust them?”
“No. But we counted on their desire to survive being stronger than their greed. I don’t think we can count on that anymore.”
But when push comes to shove, the terra indigene in Lakeside Courtyard protect the human pack that gathered around Meg and their extended families. Thus we get to meet new characters. One of those is detective Monty’s mom, a no-nonsense kind of woman that intrigues the Others. She almost instantly earns the respect of Elliot who asks her help around the office. Her tough love shows the terra indigene that Ms. Twayla is not to be messed with.
A couple of Elders become intrigued by Meg and they call her “the howling not-wolf”.

Another great installment of Bishop’s “Others” series! I was happy to see Meg had a slightly larger roll in this book as compared to the past. I still feel like Simon has become the central protagonist of the series though. I like Simon, I just feel it was a little odd to shift the central narrative after setting Meg up to be the main.
This book continues the war between Others and humans involved in the HFL movement, and sets up the introduction of some of the Elders who, I assume, will be actual characters in the next book.
A wonderful book that continued a great series. Hard to put down until I was finished. Loved it.
This is a great new series! I couldn’t wait for the next chapter, next book. Read straight through late into the night.
While I understand why some may be getting really frustrated with the whole Simon & Meg thing (or rather the lack thereof), for me I stopped caring what did or didn’t happen between Simon and Meg back somewhere during the second book.
For me, the series storyline and plots are sooo much more interesting than Simon & Meg. There are enough characters in the book to keep it interesting and the storyline is developing fantastically. Can’t wait to see how everything that happened in this book shakes out in the next book. Regardless of what happens or doesn’t happen between Simon & Meg.
I hate when there is more than 2 POVs in a book, but I just LOVE it in this series. I just can’t get enough and it keeps me hooked. I just can’t think of anything negative to say about this series. This series is so refreshing and it makes me remember why Urban Fantasy was the genre that got me really hooked on reading. There aren’t any new adult urban fantasy series being written in the last couple of years so I have to wait for my favorite UF authors to release a book a year.
I do admit that the multiple POVs and the many characters got me confused sometimes. I really had to think hard and remember who they were again. But I don’t mind at all. This series is bad ass and I just can’t wait to get my hands on the next book which unfortunately is releasing in a year.
Love this series
Excellent!
