Part Science Fiction and part Action. Mark Midway is a man with an unknown past as he is genetically engineered. Someone is after him. Will Mark find the people first or will the people capture Mark? Read the story to find out.
Creative imagination. Interesting futurist. But the ending is cheating
I’m not sure I liked this book. I got it free on bookbub and I knew it is a series. It just seemed that the plot was weak and it was missing parts. Mark Midway is a genetically born male made to be a soldier and different organizations are after him. They destroy lifesource his home and kill his “parents”. I found it hard to follow or keep my interest. I don’t know if I would go as far as to buying the next book
Test tube soldier proves his value in a contemporary thriller – 5 stars – Outstanding
Mark Midway grows up at a twice normal pace. He was the proof of design model of a soldier who could be fabricated on short notice. Mark came to the attention of a fundamentalist group who wanted to eliminate everything not of their belief’s proper order of things.
Mark was designed to be a soldier; he was raised in a laboratory. Now in his 20s, he can out-perform normal people physically and mentally. Polite and deferential, Mark accepted his adoptive parents who ran the LifeLong Institute’s research center in suburban Virginia.
The story builds when a terrorist group tries to destroy LifeLong. Mark’s remarkable design enables him to look human but act more quickly and accurately. You cannot deny his humanity. Mark excels at communicating with animals and humans to earn their trust or, if necessary, face the consequences.
A significant part of the story is that the upper levels of the government of the United States have been compromised by wealthy ideologues who see their way as the only way. In their view, Mark is the work of the devil, to be crushed and eliminated.
There is suspense with quickly-formed working relationships leading to a satisfying ending. There are four books in the series about Mark Midway. I just ordered the complete set.
Mark One by John Hindmarsh is a great, action packed thrilling read ride, and written by somone who can deliver such a book, which is Author John Hindmarsh. Mr. Hindmarsh wrote a synopsis of Mark One, which sets the stage, but what it can’t tell you is how the read actually IS. Well, THIS reader found it to be a wonderfully written, well thought out plot, with wonderful characters, and very exciting, compelling read! John HIndmarsh shows the reader his skillful capabilities at the art of writing! Mark Midway, main character just wants to find a place to “feel safe”, and in his journey of pursuing that goal, it becomes evident really fast there is no such place, but Mark Midway is “special” and gets very good at hiding…almost. From start to finish I was glued to this page turner. Don’t miss out on this first book in the Mark Midawy series!! I highly recommend this first book in the series. Mark One, at the skillful writing hands of John Hindmarsh, is a delightful and thrilling read! ENJOY!!
This is a thriller with a definite twist! Mark isn’t your typical guy with a gun. When push comes to shove you definitely want him on your side. I really enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to more adventures in Mark Two, Three and Four. Great read. I hope you check it out.
I would give this a 4.5 if I could. It fit well into the thriller genre, it was well written with good plot turns. Reminded me of a poor-man’s Ludlum. There were about half a dozen editing failures, which I always find annoying. My main disappointment, though, was the book ended in a very sudden, unsatisfying way.
Couldn’t put it down.
I liked it & intend on reading Book 2. Hindmarsh has a different writing style than others: although there’s plenty of action, he skipped writing more – twice we came onto the scene post-action, so we found the bodies but didn’t get the blow by blow of how they were killed, which I liked for a change. It allowed the plot to progress without needles frenetic action. Our hero, Mark, is a very calm, low key, action guy. So far far, no personality flaws have been shown, and he doesn’t appear to have any hang-ups. People and animals take to him. His origins may account for this, but I’m speculating about a fictional character.
4.51 stars.
Great storyline.
