Valxiron rises. All else will fall.
The Darkness of Altarea is come anew. Saradon has taken Pelenor for his own, but underneath his skin, Valxiron lurks, ready to seize control.
Pelenor’s forces are fractured and weak against the growing power of the Order of Valxiron, finally united underneath his leadership. Trapped within his ranks is Dimitri; to his despair, his father cedes the South to the … despair, his father cedes the South to the dark king, paving the way for his forces to become unstoppable.
All that stands between doom and redemption is Erendriel’s cryptic prophecy, which only leads to more questions. Increasingly frustrated, Harper and her companions split to try and find a Dragonheart, an army, and the courage to save Pelenor before the final battle that will see it doomed without their desperate actions.
Dimitri, Harper, Aedon and their companions risk everything to give Pelenor what slim chance they can – but some of them will not live to see whether the next age brings light or darkness.
Who will give the ultimate sacrifice to save those they love and the land of Pelenor… and will they succeed?

Awesome Finish Meg!
This book is a great finish to the Chronicles of Pelenor. I highly recommend the entire series. Mark of Fate brings all the friends and enemies together for the final battle between good and evil. Meg writes the battle scenes so well that you feel as if you were there. I loved the mixture of strength and weakness that each character shared and struggled with. As Harper finishes her task, my mind wandered to the strong women in her life that help shape her. I am happy we got to visit Betta and find Emyria waiting in the wings.
I hated to see the book end, but know that Meg has many new adventures for us to anticipate. She is one of my fav authors. I read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Absolutely fabulous end to the series! Honestly I wish it didn’t have to end. The characters are wonderful. Tons of action. Harper finds out just how strong she really is. Love, loss, guilt, fear, this book has it all!
Book 4 in this truly amazing series and I’m sad to say this is the last book also. The last book saw Harper meet up with most of her companions but things have changed drastically since then and if you’ve been following this series you’ll know about the prophecy that will end in Harpers death. I absolutely loved the first three books of this series but wow this book just blew my mind. The final battle is something akin to Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings where your going to be on the edge of your seat waiting for the final outcome with baited breath. I’ll miss these characters and this series although Ms Cowley has promised a spin of series.
The final book of a magical epic adventure full of courage, sacrifice, and lots of action. It is definitely a fitting end to the series. If you liked ‘Lord of the Rings’,’ Sword of Shannara’, and ‘The Wheel of Time’ series, you should enjoy this series. Do read them in order. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
I loved this book. It is the end and that is sad but what a way to get to the end. I’m not revealing anything so you can enjoy it all. If you read the three books before you have to get this one it is worth it. If you have read none of this story yet then get the first book free and you will have to finish the story. Really great!
Although this story has a lot of action, I love most the character development of people like Erika, Dimitri, Aedon, and Harper. I enjoyed the way relationship connections resolved. Some new characters came into the picture. I cried while reading several parts. It has a good ending, suitable for what the good guys were trying to achieve. I read through almost nonstop which is always the sign of a great read! Keep giving us more, Meg!
This is the final book in the series with the author once again bringing strong, well developed characters and an action packed story. She brings her story to life with her vividly painted scenes and keeps you glued to the pages with all the twists and turns throughout. I loved the story being told by several characters and loved the exciting battle scenes. The story moves fluidly and is an awesome read! Highly recommend this book/series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I haven’t cried this much for the end of a series in years!
In the final book of her Pelenor saga, everything finally comes to a head. Book three ended with Harper being reunited with Aedon and most of her other companions, but things have changed drastically since their last meeting. Dimitri returns to Saradon to try to repair the damage he caused, as well as save as many as he can without being caught. But Saradon has been almost entirely overtaken by Valxiron and is no longer in a trusting mood. He is also leading a much greater army than anyone had suspected and cities are left burning in their wake.
Harper’s companions split up to pursue different tasks as they prepare for the final confrontation, which according to the prophecy will end in Harper’s death. Aedon, Liv, and Aedon’s two elfin captors seek the burial ground of the dragons, in hopes that they will be granted an unthinkable request – the dragon heart needed to fulfill the prophecy and defeat Saradon. Brand and Erika leave in search of her people in the hopes of convincing them to turn against Saradon. Ragnor leaves to rally his people. And Harper stays under the nose of Saradon, even after Dimitri’s attempt to hide her, so she can ensure the common people are cared for, something none of the nobility seem to care about.
I loved the first three books of the series, but this book outshined them all. The final battle against Valxiron was reminiscent of the final battle in Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, while still being uniquely Pelenor. It was awful and wonderful and everything you would hope for as the powerless find inner strength, draw on ancient laws, and gain unexpected allies. And it’s a memorable battle.
I was sad to see the series come to an end, but satisfied with the way it ended. I’m also excited that Meg has promised a spin-off series because I will need something to fill the void soon. I recommend this book and this series to all young adults and regular adults who love epic fantasy.
We come to the fourth and final book in this epic tale. I find I’m at a loss for the words to describe how awesome this story is. Meg Cowley is definitely one of the best authors I have read. Her writing is excellent, her characters definitely unique and well thought out, and the places they traveled were very well described. The feelings she invoked in me as I read were truly heartfelt. I’m sad to come to the end of this journey and hope we can yet see how some of her characters had lived following the defeat of the evil one. To all who love epic sword and sorcery fantasy stories, this is not one to miss! I highly recommend it.
Pull up a chair and get comfy. Once you start Mark of Fate, the spellbinding conclusion of Chronicles of Pelenor, you won’t want to put it down. Harper, Aedon, and Dimitri continue their fight for justice with brave deeds. Will they be able to defeat Saradon?
I could not put this book down until it was finished, Mark of Fate – the final installment in the Chronicles of Pelenor did not disappoint, it was everything I have come to expect from a Meg Cowley book. Meg has a gift with words that transports you quickly into the realm of Pelenor and you cant help but feel invested in the outcome of those you meet. Harper and Dimitri’s story shines through in book 4, but as I have found in Megs books everyone has their story and this enriches the overall story-line. Nothing is as it seems on the surface, characters have extraordinary gifts but also have very ordinary flaws and this provides a fabulous unpredictable read to keep you engaged to the last page. I would love to visit Pelenor again.
Loved the book. It made me love the characters and cry in the sad parts which is what a good book should do. The story moved along at a good pace and kept me reading till the end. The characters were true to life, with all the faults and passions of people. The world building was well done and the writing made me feel I was there. Hopefully Cowley will revisit the world in future books. I would love to go back.
I received this book as an ARC and wished to leave a review.
Amazing fourth installment in the Chronicles of Pelenor series! Full of action, twists and drama; I loved how the storylines created in the beginning novels were resolved in this fourth book! Harper, Dimitri, and Aedon probably play the biggest roles here; though we also get to see the fruition of Erika, Brand, and Ragnar’s stories… as well as the added benefit of learning more about Raedon which was really neat, and helped fill in some gaps regarding Harper’s history. I truly enjoyed the character development and world-building in all the books; I totally felt like I was there in that world, seeing and feeling the environment. I completely emotionally connected with the characters and boy! did I go on a ride – there was hope, grief, fulfillment, love, anger, and more!Ms. Cowley again surpassed my expectations with the quality of her writing – wrapping up details, keeping the plots progressing… twisting together and overlapping each other. I was left satiated at the completion of Mark of Fate; I’m not sure if there will be any more installments in this series – I would love it if there are because I totally got attached to the characters; however, if there are not, I will not be left feeling like anything is lacking!
Well, what can I say? I’m sad it’s over, to be honest. That said, this was the perfect finale to the series. And for the first time reading a series, I’m actually NOT left wanting for anything! All of the storylines have been wound up, character arcs resolved and I haven’t found any loose ends. That’s how good Meg is at writing these stories.
The characters are richly developed, the scenery is beautifully described right down to the smells. It’s all there. Fantastic writing once again! If you love epic fantasy with great writing and deep, believable characters, then this is the series, and author, for you! You won’t be able to put the books down!
I have long been an avid reader of fantasy books. I read Mark of Fate (actually had to get the first 3 books and read first). This series stands out among the best, like the Wheel of Time series, The Sorcerers Ring and other greats. Even in the middle if this pandemic (I live in Queens, NY) I was transported to a world of magic, honor, courage and hope. While i read this wonderful book, i was able to escape the madness. Thank you, you have earned your place as one of my all time favorite authors.
I have been very engrossed with this series from the start. I have sat at the end of the first three books sad it had ended, or mad there here no more pages of adventure to read. Until the next one that is. This time I knew would be different, not in the sense I wouldn’t get pulled in lost in the world as the battle ensues. No different because this was the time where Meg needed to band all the details from the first three together to give us closure.
Truth be told she does it beautifully and emotionally well (so well there may have been tears). She takes us on an adventure to end the evil of all time. Something that not only one person could do but our band of merry misfits and a few more. In a world full of magic, curses, dragons, and bonds that are incredible, you can’t help but be swept away. Trust me when I say quick go get your own it’s beyond worth the dive! I personally will be sitting here waiting to see what the next adventure Meg takes us on I am betting it is Epic!
Great series!
An interesting ending to a wonderful, magical adventure series, with great characters. This story has so much going on, with twist and turns, that you don’t want to put the book down.
This book was a great ending to a must read series that is full of action from start to finish with great characters and hard to put down.
Once again Meg has hit us with an incredible addition to the Pelenor Chronicles. This is the last instalment of this particular series, something that I both love and despair of all at once.
I love this as it brings the stories of the main characters to a close while leaving enough open that more stories could easily bloom later. I hate this simply because I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the escapades of Aedon, Harper, Dimitri and co so much they’ve begun to feel like family, something which is new to me. To become so invested in the characters that just putting the book down is hard!
This book takes you on the continuing story of Harper and Dimitri and their fight against Saradon/Valxiron and his insistence that he should be the only ruler of the whole of Pelenor.
Interchanging viewpoints make this all the more interesting and aids in fleshing out all the characters. Meg has such a way with words that her world building helps transport you to where each and every character is on the page and it’s easy to get lost in the atmosphere she creates.
I can’t wait to see what Meg’s beautiful mind creates next!
