“I knew I would kill him as soon as he walked in…”Mason Dixon just wants the quiet life. He’s a bartender, and he wants to keep it that way. But his past as an assassin has caught up with him. Taking out the “marks” is something he doesn’t necessarily enjoy, but he finds it necessary: they’re ‘schmucks,’ guys who shouldn’t be allowed to walk the streets free. Best of all, taking them out helps … free.
Best of all, taking them out helps him pay the mortgage on his bar.
But Mason makes a mistake, and the wrong person is put into danger. He’s now forced to try to make things right, even if it costs him everything.
A gritty, edgy, crime thriller set off the tropical South Carolina coast with plenty of humor and a touch of noir, Mark for Blood is a story about a man hell-bent on revenge – and redemption.

Didn’t like the plot. Didn’t finish
Excellent thriller.
Great set of Books
The assassin’s point of view gives it a twist. Yes, an assassin can be a good guy. Story line is laid back, almost matter of fact, but still worthy of enjoyment.
Love the Mason Dixon series!
A good action story with lots of twists and turns. An assassin who kills for a coin, hiered to solve a mystery by a beautiful women. But he is not a detective and so he goes here and there and every where to eventually solve the case and ends up with the girl. He has a most interesting side kick who’s a hoot and very likeable. The humour between the two and the comradery is inspiring.
I recieved a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I also bought a copy of the book as well.
Thrillers aren’t my normal genre fiction. So I didn’t expect to love it. Thacker is a good writer, so I knew I would at least like it. But I was pleasantly surprised.
I loved it. There were parts that were repetitive and others were convenient. The main character, Mason Dixon, was not my favorite. But the plot movement and ‘just a bartender’ focus overcame all my complaints.
My favorite character is Joey. I can’t wait to see more of him! I did appreciate how aware Dixon was of his limits. I also really, really enjoyed the nods to hard boiled detective fiction from the 50s and 60s.
Thacker’s strongest writing skill is the action scene. He gets you right in the thick of it. You can see what is going on and he is able to hit the feels at the same time. I also liked the realistic look at romance in this book. The action scenes and wrap-up sections really boosted my enjoyment of the book.
I look forward to seeing what is next for Dixon and Joey and the bar.
Good read
Good book
Average
Engaging and fast moving with some good characterizations. The ending could be stronger, but a good first effort.
A great read. I really enjoyed Mason and his loyal, competent,
sidekick Joey.
Short on action, character development and very weak ending
A really great mystery that will keep you turning the pages all night.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the series!
A great introduction to a charismatic character. It doesn’t take long to burn up the pages–fast paced and action packed
Slow to get going, then the action started. The ending was a surprise.
I never made it beyond the night spent talking after the bar fight. Too much in the way of description and too much interior dialogue. It began to drag.
I am not big on assassin books but this was an exception. Definitely a well written book with lots of action and the characters are well developed and interesting. Plan on reading the sequel. Jack Reacher fans will enjoy this book.
Different way of looking at things.
