“I knew I would kill him as soon as he walked in…”Mason Dixon just wants the quiet life. He’s a bartender, and he wants to keep it that way. But his past as an assassin has caught up with him. Taking out the “marks” is something he doesn’t necessarily enjoy, but he finds it necessary: they’re ‘schmucks,’ guys who shouldn’t be allowed to walk the streets free. Best of all, taking them out helps … free.
Best of all, taking them out helps him pay the mortgage on his bar.
But Mason makes a mistake, and the wrong person is put into danger. He’s now forced to try to make things right, even if it costs him everything.
A gritty, edgy, crime thriller set off the tropical South Carolina coast with plenty of humor and a touch of noir, Mark for Blood is a story about a man hell-bent on revenge – and redemption.

The more of this I read, the more I disliked it. I wanted to like it. I know Thacker tries, but I just could not do it.
After a few chapters I quit. It just kept getting dumber, if possible. Nothing about the story line is believable, and the main character “Mason Dixon” is an arrogant ass.
This person is supposed to be a hired assassin, but he spends all his time bragging about his knowledge of spirits and trying to impress others with this so called knowledge.
If I like the characters, I can put up with a ridiculous, unbelievable plot. If the plot is good and believable, I can tolerate a character I don’t like. But I can’t handle someone I hate doing something that isn’t even possible.
Nope, nope, nope. Won’t be doing this again.
Mark for Blood was an action packed read. The concept was great. Mason Dixon is a perfect bartender with a little side gig as a hitman. The narrative was easy flowing, like I was sitting in a neighboring bar stool enjoying Dixon tell me this tale. The action scenes were plentiful, and each one pressed the the story forward. Overall a great read.
My dad was a bartender, so I had to give this book a try. And I loved it! It was an outstanding read with an intriguing storyline, tons of intense action, and very suspenseful. The characters were interesting and seemed real. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2, which I’m starting as soon as I post this. 🙂
Nick Thacker’s writing just gets better and better! Mason Dixon (yes, really) is a bartender/owner who just happens to kill bad guys as a sideline — until he meets Hannah. Then he becomes a warrior! Great writing, very original plot, and thrills on nearly every page.
