I always enjoy this author’s work, her books are so easy to read.
This is a second chance for 2 friends who went their separate ways years ago. Tragedy brings them together and they can’t fight their feelings.
Someone wants Emily dead, or need to find something that her deceased husband hid. The story has many twists and kept me riveted to my kindle.
Great story, interesting characters, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
When you read this book, you need to be aware that the lead couple of the story does get a resolution to their personal relationship, but there is a broader mystery won’t get resolved until the end of the 5th book in the series. ‘Iron Horse Legacy’ is a companion series to the ‘Brotherhood Protectors’ series, but you definitely don’t need to have read that series to enjoy this one.
Colin, Alex and Emily were best friends – The Three Musketeers. Emily marries Alex even though she only loves him as a friend because Colin is joining the Marines and she doesn‘t want to be s military spouse. It all goes wrong in a crazy number of ways and she still ends up being a young widow.
When Colin comes home on leave to help search for his missing father. He wants to uphold a vow he made to Emily and Alex to always be there if needed. There is a lot of intrigue and suspense in this story. I thought Colin was a good guy, but I really didn’t like Emily at all. I understood her reluctance to marry a military man, good decision to marry Alex really was selfish and led to disastrous consequences for her and Alex, and their unborn baby. The book itself was well-written and fast-paced. Colin and Emily get an HEA (even though I still don’t think she deserved it), but Colin’s father is still missing.

Ten years after making a vow to his childhood best friends Alex and Emily, Marine on leave Colin travels to Bozeman to find the woman who pawned his father’s ring only to have a dramatic reunion with the recently widowed Emily Tremont who lost her husband and unborn child in a car accident three months ago.

SEAL’s Vow (Iron Horse Legacy Book 4)
5 stars
I received a free copy of the romantic suspense novel SEAL’s Vow (Iron Horse Legacy Book 4):Bastian and Jenna by Elle James and this review was given freely.
Poignant and action packed with a fair amount of violence offset by a steamy romance and scenes with the loving close knit McKinnon family. Eleven years after his high school sweetheart Lauren was killed in a car accident, Navy Seal Sebastian “Bastian” McKinnon finds himself attracted to the woman he has sworn to protect, his little sister Molly’s best friend Eagle Rock real estate agent and private investigator Jenna Meyers.
I received a copy of this book through Prolific Works and I voluntarily chose to review it. I am a big fan of Elle James and I loved this book. A wonderful story and it is well written. I always expect a well written book by Elle James and this hits the mark. This is an easy read, you will not want to put it down. This one is worth your time. A great book.
Colin has returned to the ranch to help in the search of his father. But when he finds out that Emily, is former friend and first love, has been targeted – he is determined to look for his father AND help her.
Emily really did try to love her husband they way he deserved. She chose him after all, even when her heart wanted Colin. But her fragile grasp at love was fractured when Colin decided to join the military, she refused to become another military wife who hollowed out when their husband died, just as her mother had. But Alex died and it’s becoming more and more evident that he was involved in something beyond safe accounting.
I must admit I took a while to warm to Emily. She was pretty cold, assuming Colin would never come back to her alive, so she chose safe, staid and secure Alex, all whilst knowing she’d never truly love him with her all. But as we find out Alex was no angel either. Colin didn’t want to rip Emily from the security she sought, so he bowed out before they even had a chance to start.
I was happy that they managed to get past their own barriers and get another chance at love. I’m loving the way all the siblings stories are interwoven, really adds to the overall storyline arc. But I have to admit to wanting Dad McKinnon home soon! I think I know who is line for Molly but let’s wait and see!
Elle James is one of those authors that I buy without even reading the snippet of info about the book . I couldn’t put the book down
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I adore the Iron Horse Legacy Series. Duncan McKinnon went missing several weeks ago. Since then, his sons have taken leave of their military assignments and come home to help search for him. This is the third book of this series.
Colin McKinnon has gone to Bozeman as the latest clue in the patriarch’s disappearance is his ring was pawned by a blonde woman with a unicorn tattoo on her wrist. Taking a break in the search, he goes to his favorite tavern for a beer. A woman runs into the tavern and straight into him. Seconds later, her vehicle comes crashing through the wall!! The woman turns out to be his best friend growing up. Colin, Emily along with Alex Tremont were so close that they were considered to be the Three Musketeers. Unfortunately Emily couldn’t accept Colin’s decision to join the Marines after high school and married Alex instead. Now 10 years later, Emily is being chased by someone who possibly murdered Alex 3 months ago.
The story of Colin and Emily’s HEA is one that is filled with suspense and mystery. Why was Alex murdered also still where is Duncan McKinnon?
The story is written in a dual POV format, which is my favorite. Getting into the characters’ mind really helps me to fully understand them better. Especially in this instance with Emily marrying Alex and not Colin. I could see the chemistry right from the beginning with these two so I really wanted to understand Emily’s decision.
The McKinnon family along with Hank Patterson and his wife (from the author’s series, Brotherhood Protector) make appearances as well.
The plot was well written and flowed beautifully. I was able to read this story in an afternoon. While this story can be read as a stand-alone, I highly suggest that anyone start at the beginning.
This book has a sexy scene that is well written and doesn’t go into multiple page after page of explicit detail so it is not erotica by any mean. That being said, this is not a sweet, clean second chance romance. I highly suggest that anyone OVER the 18 can read this especially if you adore military men and love a strong female but with a good head on her shoulders.
This is book 3 in the Iron Horse Legacy series and it features Emily and Colin. When they were younger, Emily, Colin and Alex had been the three musketeers. Emily ended up marrying Alex because he was the safer choice since Colin had joined the Marines. Ten years later, Alex is dead and someone is after Emily. Colin is home on leave, searching for his kidnapped father. These two literally run into each other as Emily is trying to escape certain death. Colin wants to help her and show her why they belong together. Emily seems too headstrong. She doesn’t need anybody because she can take care of herself. She’s so adamant about it that it almost takes away a little of her femininity.
The story line is good. The romance was fantastic and the characters were great. Ultimately the reasons for the suspense were confusing and a little weak. It played out great In the end but should have been for stronger, more important reasons.
As always another great read for this series. Colin has always loved Emily, they along with Alex were best friends, but when Colin said he was going into the Marines, she figured Alex was the safer one to marry. Little did she know how her life would end up. Now Colin is back on leave to help his brothers find their father and rekindles their love for each other. But Emily has trust issues and trouble on her tail. Lots of action and hopeful ever after. HEA.
Colin, Alex, and Emily were best friends in high school. They did EVERYTHING together. When Colin decided to follow in the footsteps of his brothers and enlist, he stepped aside and watched as Alex and Emily married. Emily didn’t marry for love, she married for stability. She lost her dad to death while enlisted and vowed to never love a man who chose military over love. After sharing a secret kiss with Colin before deployment, Emily knew Colin was “the one”. She was just too scared to admit it.
Fast forward…..Emily’s husband, Alex, falls in with a bad crowd. Alex secretly skimmed money out of several of his clients accounts to pay for fertility treatments. He and their unborn child are killed and someone is still after Emily. Colin is on leave from the Marines to help his family search for his missing father. When he finds out Emily’s life is in jeopardy, he takes it upon himself to protect her. He believes his dad’s disappearance and Alex’s murder are somehow connected. And protecting Emily will allow him the time he needs to prove to Emily they’re meant to be.
The only frustrating part of this story is, I still don’t know what happened to McKinnon’s father. I need the next novel ASAP! Otherwise, it’s a well written, action packed, emotional story. Hot topics of fertility struggles and the costs of treatments are very realistic. It was also ironic how Emily’s fear kept her from choosing love. She chose Alex because he wasn’t enlisting, yet he’s the one who dies. Life is NOT guaranteed! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
I am loving this Iron Horse Legacy series and the mystery of what has happened to the patriarch of the McKinnon family and during the hunt for him and answers each of his sons have found their true love or reconnected with them.
This is Colin’s story He always loved Emily and she along with Alex spent many an hour running wild on the ranch they where so inseparable that they where knows as the three musketeers. Colin kissed Emily when they where teenagers and he knew she was the one for him but Emily had lost her father in battle and would never allow herself to love a man in uniform so when Colin joined the Marine’s it was a death knell to any relationship between them. Eventually Emily married Alex the third friend. Now he has been murdered and what ever he was involved in is putting Emily in danger Colin will step up to keep the only woman he has ever loved safe what was Alex involved in and does it have something to do with Colin’s father disappearance. Will Emily be able to get over her fear and admit that Colin ghas always been the one she loved.
Elle James – Marine’s Promise – (Iron Horse Legacy – Book 3)
This series is about the McKinnon family and the Iron Horse Ranch where James & Hanna McKinnon raised their four (4) sons and one (1) daughter. The family has close ties and would do anything for each other.
The premise of the series is that all four (4) sons who are in the military come home to look for their father, James McKinnon the patriarch, who is missing. James was one of the many posse members looking for an escaped convict. Things become more complicated because he goes missing during a snowstorm, and landslide making searching for him that much harder.
– Angus is the oldest at 33 and a Delta Force soldier.
– Duncan is the biggest of the brothers and an Airborne Ranger in the Army. Duncan is injured from a deployment and maybe medically discharged.
– Colin is a Marine.
– Sebastian (Bastian) is a Navy Seal.
– Molly is the youngest and lives and breaths the Ranch. She must have her horses surrounding her and can’t imagine living anywhere but on the Iron Horse.
Colin McKinnon and his two best friends from high school, Emily and Alex were called the musketeers. Since Emily’s father had been killed while in the military, she was afraid to acknowledge her authentic fillings for him because she didn’t want to end up like her mother, who never got over the death of her father. So, Emily chose Alex, an accountant who was safe and home every night. When Alex was killed, and Emily almost died in an automobile accident resulting in her aborting a miscarriage. When Emily realizes that Alex had taken money from dangerous people, leaving her in danger too, Colin steps in to protect her.
Find out if Colin can keep Emily safe and if they can find the love they felt for each other so many years ago.
Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone, each with their own HEA. However, keep in mind that James McKinnon (patriarch) hasn’t been found yet, dead or alive, in books 1,2 or3. My recommendation is that you read this series in order because it will be worth your time and money.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review.
A fast-paced action-packed story filled with mystery, danger, second chance love. Someone killed Emily’s husband and now is after Emily. Emily, her husband Alex, and Colin were best friends. Emily chose Alex to marry and Colin joined the military. Ten years have passed since Colin has seen Emily, he promised to protect her if anything happened to Alex. Can Colin find out who’s trying to kill Emily? No cliffhanger, standalone and Hea.
I voluntarily received this arc in exchange for an honest opinion.
As the search continues for John McKinnon, the matriarch of the family his son Colin, who is on leave from the Marines to join the search has his one true love, Emily, literally crash into him while she’s fleeing men who are trying to run her down. They used to be best friends many years ago and could have been a couple but she chose Alex, the third person to their three musketeers, Alex who was safe and not the one she truly loved. He’s now gone and has left Emily in danger which has Colin fulfilling his promise to look after her if anything happened to Alex…now they just have to stay alive so they can finally be together…the way it was supposed to be.
A great read with a bit of steam, some suspense, danger and more clues as to what happened to John. I liked these two and how Emily didn’t shy away for too long about her feelings and how Colin didn’t hide his or run away. I liked the banter and bit of humour when the boys are altogether and the story flowed nicely. I was a bit disappointed in the ending as there was a build up to it and then it was over when the bad guy was found out. There were more clues to the disappearance of John and I can’t wait to find out who the next brother will find to love.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Marine’s Promise was a fast-paced, suspenseful read with great characters. Colin and Emily were a great couple with sizzling hot chemistry. Emily chose what she thought was the safe path in life, only to find out that it was more dangerous than what she really wanted all along. This is an amazing story filled with suspense, intrigue, action and danger. I would definitely recommend this book and this amazing series.
I liked this book. Colin and Emily’s story is complicated and emotional. While I could understand the choices that these two made and the reasons behind them it didn’t mean I had to agree with them. It all leads to plenty of drama, angst and emotional turmoil. Add in some suspense and danger and this read hold your attention easily. In my opinion this was a very entertaining and enjoyable read.
Emily is mourning the loss of her husband who was murdered ferociously by an unknown killer. Unfortunately she will soon discover that her husband was hiding a dark secret that will soon put a target on her back but she won’t be alone because during one of those dangerous chases, she will practically fall into the arms of her longtime best friend and her real love. Is it fate or is it just a casualty that she meets Colin? A fast paced read with a lot of action. A story that will give both characters a second chance in love.
Marine’s Promise is yet another example of why I love Elle James’ books. Ms. James has once again given readers a well-written book. The characters are phenomenal. Emily is a window and her husband’s murderer is still free. Collin was Emily and her husband’s best friend, they were like the three musketeers. Collin and Emily’s story is loaded with drama, humor, sexy bits. The action and suspense will have your pulse pounding a little faster than normal, it’s that good. I loved everything about this book and look forward to reading more from Elle James soon. Marine’s Promise is book 3 of the Iron Horse Legacy Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book but does leave one thread dangling.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Prolific Works. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Enjoyed reading Collin and Emily’s story. A second chance, family, heart, twists and turns along with a little heat. I am enjoying this series and they all are standalone with the back story of the family coming together in search of their father. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
I really like this series and can’t wait for the rest of the story. Colin isn’t prepared to see Emily after all that time, but she literally runs into him. He would do anything to protect her and now is the time to step up. After Emily’s husband was murdered, she felt so alone. Colin won’t let her be alone any more. He promised that he would protect her if anything ever happened to her husband and now is that time. Someone is trying to kill her and she hasn’t a clue as to why. While Colin and his family looks for their father, he is also protecting Emily. It seems that the two may be connected?
