Some secrets have deadly consequences.Brynlee Parker thought her biggest challenge would be hiking to Dead Man’s Bluff and fulfilling her dad’s last wishes. But he can’t seem to mind his own business when a mysterious out-of-towner burst into his camp store in a frenzied panic. Something—or someone—deadly is out there.
The killer’s hunger for blood seems to be growing at a brutal pace. Can Brynlee and Boone figure out who’s behind these murders? Or will the hurts and secrets from their past not allow for even a margin of error?

I really enjoyed “Margin of Error” by Christy Barritt! This book had me guessing the entire time. This is the second book in the Fog Lake series but can be read alone.
I highly recommend this book. It was a good, clean, suspenseful novel.
I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and characters in this book. Christy did a great job with the character development and the suspense in the plot. The book certainly held my interest until the end.
Margin of Error by Christy Barritt is book 2 in the Fog Lake series. Fog Lake is the author’s best series yet! Fog Lake with its strange weather phenomena is a mysterious place. In this book, Brynlee is determined to fulfill her father’s final wishes, but she faces a dangerous legendary creature. It’s not a plot that would automatically make me pick up a book but it is absolutely amazing! You’ll never guess the twists and turns ahead. I just loved this book and I highly recommend it! I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Brynlee wants desperately to honor her recently found father’s last wishes, to have his ashes scattered at Dead Man’s Bluff, even going directly against the advice of the local adventure store owner, Boone’s, advice about the safety of hiking the trail alone. Then when she witnesses the brutal murder of two hikers and runs back to the store frightened half out of her wits, Boone can see she is terrified but has a difficult time believing her story of a “part bear, part human” creature. Several more strange incidents occur, putting Brynlee’s life in danger. Boone is both drawn to her and distrusts her, but does not want her to come to any harm, so he agrees to be her body guard until they figure out if the attacker is animal or human. Is Brynlee being completely honest about why she is in Fog Lake? What secret is she hiding? Can Boone forgive himself for his wife’s suspicious death and move on? Who or what is terrorizing Fog Lake, targeting especially this newcomer? Does Brylee’s step-brother have anything to do with what’s going on? Is the right person in jail? Boone and his brother, Sheriff Luke try to unravel this mystery and keep everyone safe.
This is the second book in the Fog Lake Suspense Series. I loved that Luke and Harper from the first book were a part of this second installment. It’s always nice to “catch up” with previous characters. I look forward to reading the stories of the other two Wilder siblings in upcoming books.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
While I like this author’s books, this series is a bit too much for me. Delving into the psyche of a criminal and his blood lust is not my thing. I’m sure it’s tame comparatively, but that’s just me.
Margin of Error is another fast paced and suspenseful read from Christy Barritt. You can always count on her to deliver a compelling and unputdownable story. This is the second book in the Fog Lake Mysteries series, but you don’t have to read the first one to enjoy it. It stands on it’s own perfectly fine.
On a hiking trip in memory of her dad, Brynlee witnesses something terrible. A beast mauls two men. A beast with claws and a human face. Local police are convinced it was a bear, but Brynlee knows what she saw. Plus, ever since she witnessed the attack, she’s been stalked by that same beast-like creature.
The intrigue and action start right at the beginning, keeping me glued to the pages and making it almost impossible to set aside until I reached the thrilling conclusion. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, don’t hesitate to pick up a copy! I can’t recommend it enough!
I love to read her books. Can’t put the books down. I’ve only staeted reading her books since April 2019.
I LOVE all of Christy Barretts books. She’s never left me down and I will read every book she writes! So is my best friend….she’s hooked on them too!
Great book!
Christy is a master of romantic suspense and has ramped it up in Margin of Error.
What would you do if you witnessed a brutal murder but had no idea whether it was done by man or beast? What if the one person who can keep you safe isn’t sure they believe you?
Brynlee came to Dead Man’s Bluff to fulfill her father’s last wish. How far is she willing to go when she becomes the killer’s next target?
Boone has his own issues with Dead Man’s Bluff, but knowing Brynlee could be a target has him laying aside his ghosts to become her personal security. One problem—he isn’t sure she’s being truthful about the reason she’s here.
As they each fight their personal demons and growing attraction, the killer is closing in.
The antagonist was frightening and the identity of the killer had me guessing until the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and stayed up to read the end. I highly recommend this book as one of the best in this genre. No gratuitous sex in this book. It’s all about the story.
Christy Barritt is a wonderful author of romantic suspense. She crafts reoccurring characters that sit and dwell in the reader’s heart for a long time. Luckily, Barritt creates tons of stories with the same characters for readers to really know well. With her latest release Margin of Error, the characters didn’t appear in other novels. They are brand new characters. While I usually have a wonderful time getting lost in the mystery and the hunt for the bad guy, in Margin of Error, that wasn’t the case. I felt a little overwhelmed with the romance and the buildup of that relationship. It seemed to take over the whole story. At certain times, I felt like the mystery wasn’t that important to the story. This story wasn’t written in the typical Barritt style. While I know every story isn’t always going to be a hit out of the park by every author, this just happened to be a miss for me by Barritt.
Scary good! Although readers do not need to read the 1st book in the series, it will increase enjoyment to know a bit about the town and people. When Fog Lake finally roots out the sinister characters, this will be an idyllic location for a private vacation or to raise a family. Too many strange and deadly events have plagued the town and its residents.
Christy Barritt hits hard on the themes of honesty and forgiveness with illustrations of how harmful secrets and life-long wounds can be. Enjoy reading scenes of the Appalachian views so tangible that you can take a mini mountain vacation from your armchair. Just watch where you step!
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
This is another wonderful suspense book by Christy Barritt set in Fog Lake. In this story, Brynlee Parker has come to hike an extreme spot called Dead Man’s Bluff as a way to honor her late father’s wishes. While pausing to rest, she sees 2 men murdered by what she thinks is a beast – or is it a man? Running from the scene, she runs straight into the store of Boone Wilder who has his own reasons to hate Dead Man’s Bluff. As the town tries to find out who or what killed these men, Brynlee’s own life seems to be in danger. Filled with the twists and turns that Barritt’s writing usually contains, you will be anxiously trying to solve this mystery up until its riveting conclusion!
