This is a great start to a new series from a very accomplished author, I loved the descriptions of New Orleans where the book is set, which given the books title should come as no surprise. The feel of the parades, the food and the characters is superbly well communicated.
The story starts off on a rather downbeat note with our herione, Roxy, losing her job and being dumped in a very callous manner by her boyfriend on the same day.
But the pace and emotion of the story then starts to pick up as on a whim, Roxy moves to New Orleans to live for a while in a boarding house, populated by some very colourful characters. All is going very well, and despite the boarding house being rather shabby she starts to enjoy herself getting involved with the residents and the Mardi Gras celebrations.
Then there is a murder and the police chief seems determined to charge the wrong person, Roxy decides to step in and do some sleuthing herself. The murder mystery is very well handled, as I would expect from an author of Alison Golden’s standing, it has lots of twists and turns and blind alleys and a couple of major surprises along the way.
The book finishes in a very upbeat, joyful manner and left me with a big smile on my face.
I am really looking forward to the next book in this intriguing series.
I received an advance copy of the book but have voluntarily written this honest review.
Roxy gets blindsided by her old job, ex-boyfriend, and mean co-workers, so she starts another life down in New Orleans. Her and white Persian cat Nefertiti are going to start a new adventure in the ‘fun city’. Roxy soon makes new friends and is enjoying life, until some wealthy developer wants to buy the place she is staying at. But before that happens, he is found dead and Roxy and her new friends are suspects. Come along for the ride, great food and fun in this new series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Good start to new series! I love the setting (New Orleans) and the characters. Roxy loses her job & her boyfriend dumps her so she decides to up and move to NOLA. She ends up staying at a guesthouse and makes new friends right away. All of the characters are a riot and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them better as the series goes along. WARNING!! If you read this book you will end up craving Cajun food and beignets!!!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book is so much fun! Roxie begins anew in New Orleans. I love Roxie because she is a woman coming in to her own, and learning that she can do anything. There are twists and turns and a bit of the unexpected, keeping you interested throughout. I can’t wait for the next in this series. I just loved it and highly recommend you read it.
Wonderful start to a new series.
You are a careful person and in what feels like a day, your life goes kaplooey. Now you get a sign with the help of your cat and decide to risk it all and move elsewhere and start a new life. Don’t we all wish for that. I know I do!!!!!
So you use your hard earned savings and move to New Orleans, stay at hotel with people who are characters to you and before you know it , you are involved in a murder. The new life? At least the new foods are wonderful.
So to find out what happens you need to read this quick, fun, easy to read cozy mystery. I guarantee you will love it. I am eagerly awaiting the next one.
My question is how did the cat know to signal the move to New Orleans? Does she have abilities that we are unaware of yet? Keeping my eye out to see where this and the new experiences with unknown will lead.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Mardi Gras Madness is a great start to a new series by the talented Alison Golden. Roxy is a bit naïve but she is a sensible, likable woman. Roxy and her cat Nefertiti move into a boarding house with a cast of quirky characters and ends up involved in a murder investigation. The characters are an eclectic mix who have formed a family of sorts. The story was well-written, the characters were likable, and there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me interested from beginning to end. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
Loved Roxy a little quirky but fit right in with all the other characters. Loved the setting in New Orleans. Fun read.
I really like Roxy and the crew. Her life is falling apart and so she decides to change it. She sees a commercial for Mardi Gras and decides that would be a good place to get her head together. Once there, she meets a group of people who make her feel a part of things for the first time in her life. Things are still iffy, but she thinks she has found a home. Then an investor turns up dead and the owner of the place she is staying is suspected of murder. She has never done anything like that before, but she decides she will investigate.
I loved New Orleans the one time I got to visit, and I enjoyed revisiting it with Roxy and friends. I don’t know if I would have to courage to pick my cat up and head off to the unknown like Roxy did. I’m glad she found the courage because I enjoyed going on her adventure with her. I love the characters in this story and can’t wait to hang with them again. The story flowed and I just wanted to keep reading. Now the wait begins till the next book comes out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I received an ARC of this book, but my opinion is my own. I actually bought a copy too.
Meet Roxy – the newest character from Alison Golden!
You may find Roxy a bit quirky, but aren’t we all? At least the more interesting folks.
Begin a new journey with Roxy and her friends. I have and I eagerly await the next installment. As with all the characters introduced by Alison, we will all be able to watch Roxy develop with each new offering.
Mardi Gras Madness is a super read filled with a great cast – including Nefertiti – an anything but predictable plot, and New Orleans as the setting. Unbeatable combination.
Join in the Madness. Sign up for the journey. You’ll be thankful you did…
I loved the first book in the Roxy Reinhardt series. If you like books that are well written….without multiple errors…..with well-developed characters and a story line that will keep you interested right to the end, you will love Alison Golden’s books. I have read all of her books and have not been disappointed in any of them. I look forward to many more in this series.
Roxy’s life is suddenly turned upside down when she loses both her job and boyfriend. On a whim, she packs up her clothing and her cat and heads for New Orleans. This mystery is skillfully written with a tight plot and great characters. There are multiple story lines within this cozy mystery and they are all neatly tied up with a bow. It was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to future books. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Roxy had an abrupt ending to her old, comfortable life. Her job was a drudge, her beau hand, but far less kind than when they first got together
In one day, her world turned on its head, in another, with loyal cat Nefertiti by her side, she finds herself in a magical new situation.
Embrace the chance to get caught up in the Mardi Gras madness and read on!
