‘Marc’ is the fourth book in Kathi S. Barton’s “Bowen Boys” series and, bless his heart, he has no idea what’s in store for him when it comes to second chances. Even though they were young and had not fallen in love with each other, Marc knew who his mate was. And then tragedy came in the form of an automobile accident and Marc lost her. He’s been happy for his brothers’ happiness but a little envious as well. He owns and operates his own investigation business and Mia, his secretary and right hand when it comes to the business, is pregnant with twins and REALLY wants to go on maternity leave to get ready and prop her feet up. Marc just hadn’t been able to find a temporary replacement for her yet. In the middle of all this, they have a case that has yet to be solved. The only thing Marc knows to do is go to the murder location himself and look at the evidence. He knows his panther will be able to figure out what’s going on once he can smell the scene. Before he leaves town, Marc gives Mia permission to hire her own replacement if she finds someone and just let him know. Jonny is a panther who has been kidnapped more than once and, not just her, but other paranormals as well. He uses them as a front to sell his ‘exotic’ animals to wealthy clients and have them case the residence for anything of value, where he then takes the stolen merchandise and fences it. The only way he’s able to pull this off is one, he’s convinced Jonny she’s the only one of her kind since she knows nothing about paranormals, and two, he threatens the life of anyone close to the paranormal so he can get what he wants. There are twists and turns in this storyline with several antagonists which compound on top of each other’s evil. We also discover a broad secret about Jonny’s family and I’m hoping we can get the details before the series ends. An overall great read.
Just when you thought the women joining the family couldn’t get any scarier.
Marc is convinced he’s had his once chance at a mate. When she died he knows he’s bound to a life of loneliness and feeling like an outsider with each brother finding their happiness. However, his newest receptionist is making him feel things that can only be described by someone who’s met their mate.
Jonny Thomas is believes she is a freak of nature. Growing up and having the ability to shift hasn’t made life easy for Jonny. Being on the run from a man who is determined to use her shifting abilities for his financial gain, has left Jonny with trust issues and skittish around everyone.
Fate has better ideas for these two, and when they meet the fireworks explode. Not only does Marc have to convince Jonny that she can trust him, but prove that she is stronger than she believes herself to be.
