I have been provided with a copy of Many Lives Series First Season: Paranormal Romance – Shifters, Immortals and Vampires by the author for an impartial review. This box set includes Awakened, Feral, Taken, Fated, Redemption, and Claimed. I’ll be updating this book review as I finish each book.
Awakened
Feral
This book is a short novella so it has to be able to grab your attention in a short amount of time and this author truly succeeded. It had me hooked from the very beginning until the very end. I hated that it had to end I wanted it to continue. I really loved the characters and it ended in a way that you know there is the possibility of there being more in the series but it didn’t leave you angry that this is the way it ended. Anyone that wants to read something unique and completely different this is the book for you.
Taken
I didn’t know what to expect with this book I didn’t know if it was going to pick up right back up were Feral ended with Jai being the main character instead of Maya. This book takes place several years after the first book so it could be read without reading the first book you would just be missing some of the history and I believe enough of it is explained in this book. I enjoy books like this where each book can stand on its own so if you’re like me in that aspect you will enjoy this book. The summary of this book made me think that it would start three years down the road and that it you would just catch glimpses of what happened between the main characters in the past instead of experiencing it. I was so wrong it starts with them meeting and then when it gets almost halfway through the book time jumps forward three years. I like this better because I don’t like it when a book starts in the future and has flashbacks or explaining chapters to catch you up I like to experience the story first hand from beginning to end so I really enjoyed the way the author wrote this book. I enjoyed seeing how Jai and Aria interacted at the beginning of their journey and I really enjoyed the anticipation of waiting to see how their next encounter would be after the three years and how everything would turn out. The anticipation just kept me reading I had to know what would happen.
Fated
It was a novella so it was an easy and short read that you can finish in a matter of hours. In this novella you meet Maya and Luke’s daughter Leana Iyeroy who has inherited her grandmother Ruby Iyer’s sword. You learn more about Ruby in some of the previous books in the series. This book is more of a journey for the character than some of the other books in the series have been. This book is about Leana a hybrid-shifter finding out who she is and where she belongs. This book leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the rest of her story.
Redemption
I have been provided with a copy of Redemption by the author for an impartial review. I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read. In this book you get to see more of Leana and you get to see how she and Mikhail come together. It was really fun to see.
Claimed
This series is told primarily in present tense from the POVs of Maya and the narrator in Feral, and Aria and the narrator in Taken. I find it a little had to read in the present tense, but I suppose it helps to keep the action fresh. The author does a great job of describing action scenes and pulling the reader into the thick of things.
I have a few complaints, things I think a good editor could eliminate. I like the way in which she describes emotions in terms of color, but at times it feels forced. I’d like to see some variety. Speaking of variety, I’d like to see a bit less of heat or other emotions “spooling” off of characters. On at least one occasion, the wrong character’s name was used. It wasn’t hard to figure out what was meant, but it took me out of the story for a moment. Another time, the wrong word was used, and it was jarringly wrong! Puerile is not the right word to describe a smell. Perhaps she meant putrid?
But there were some really good things about this book too, like this quote:
“He squeezes it, cutting off the air till the black knocks the back of my eyelids……” What a fun bit of personification! Then, there’s this one:
“Then the air rushes in. Gasping, I draw it in. It’s like drawing a cloth over broken glass. The shattered nerves of my throat tear at the oxygen, piercing it, and I gasp again, this time in pain. Not aware that my hands are around my throat, trying to soothe me.”
Despite the slight redundancy, I think this does an awesome job of describing the feeling. All things considered, I would recommend this set. I feel myself being drawn into this imaginary world and I like it.
Wow! Great paranormals ! Loved it; waiting for more!
I am hooked on reading books by Laxmi Hariharan
This set of books is such an entertaining read. Each book tells about a different set of people, their lives and staying alive with the bad guys always in the mix. The writing is exceptional and will quickly take you to the next page. Lots of dragons and magic thrown in , with other paranormal. Such a good set of books just to take with you on a journey of the mind with fantasy. I recommend this good reading material!
This box set is absolutely a must have. As always well written stories with a great storylines and plots. It contains amazing stories that has a lot of chemistry and passion in them. If you enjoy romances that offer plenty of sizzling heat, dirty naughtiness and a taboo edge you can not go wrong with this very entertaining and enjoyable collection.
ONE OF THE BEST SERIES OF TODAY!!!
Action packed, easy to follow read with twists and turns that captivates you from the beginning to the very last word. An incredible series that never grows old. I read it over and ovee again. Laxmi pulled out all the stops here. Her talent in bringing this series to life is awe inspiring. Great job.
AWAKENED – it’s how the world in her series, Many Lives, begins. It has so much going on you don’t dare put it down till you finish. It’s the story of a young girl, Ruby, who as a child wanted only to be loved, something she never felt from her parents, especially her mother. Due to this absence of love, she commits a horrific act and runs away. Now a young woman, she miraculously lives through an attempt on her life and is forever changed. She can see on her body the physical changes and the pain it causes her when she seems to be in danger. But there are more changes that she will not know till later (and I’m not telling). This also bring into her life a protector, Vik, a policeman; only she’s not sure what his real goal is, nor what her true feelings for him are. Then her mother comes back into her life causing death and destruction to make a so-called better world. Ruby’s story is very powerful, magical one and how this story ends, well it’s the end of life as she knew it and the beginning of a new one for mankind.
REDEMPTION – crosses over from her Many Lives Series. We have a female shifter, Leana, who begins the story as a cage fighter to help keep an orphanage running, Entering into this scene is an immortal, Mikhail, from unknown origins, who is strongly drawn to her. Without giving away too much, as I don’t do spoilers, lets just say these two have a relationship that does not always run smoothly. She will be controlled by no one and he wants only her. In this world, that has been changed through the act of one woman and her sword, we have shifters, immortals, vampires and humans. A world filled with pain and one in which these two must not only accept what they are, but their feelings for each other, if they are to save it. It is a story filled with emotion and unpredictable twists and turns. As always the authors gives us a powerful story, filled with strong characters in a society so changed it takes courage and exceptional love to win a life worth living.
FATED – This story is filled with so many emotions. We have a young hybrid shifter, Leana. who has always hated what she is and wants only to be human. She also is afraid that humans will learn about her parentage. Although she says she doesn’t believe what people are saying about a young boy called the “Hugging Saint”, she somehow finds herself going to the temple to see him. When she finally gets her hug, she becomes angry at what he tells her. This leads her to commit a horrific act and finally leads her to accept what she truly is.
TAKEN – This world is filled with amazing, colorful, explicit, feel it as if you were there real characters. The description of the cities, land, the way of life as its changed is very explicit. This dystopian type event has brought forth a new species and changes across the world, and is filled with detail, emotions, fears, and longings. The two main characters, Aria, a woman who intends to never give up no matter what the situation or consequences, and Jai, who can have everything but wants only to be a good man and do the right thing. Brought together, they feel an instant “something”, but do all they can to deny it. Can two people, from what amounts to different species, ever trust each other. They both go their own way, still fighting this feeling they have. But fate has more in store for them, and they meet again. Can they and their “people” work together for the good of all, will they finally admit to themselves and each other of their true feelings. I LOVED this story, it’s filled with so much emotion that you don’t want to put it down till you get to that last page.
FERAL – is told by the young girl Maya, who has always felt as if though she didn’t belong. Not to her family, her peers, her life. She confronts her mother and in anger leaves to the world they avoid in search of her “real family”; the world of humans. For Maya belongs to hybrid pack of werewolves. She leaves behind Luke, the one who loves her, in hopes of finding those who will be like her. Did her “mother” really find her or did she steal her away from a loving family. If she finds them will they accept her back, will she want to part of their lives, will she find someone to replace the love she ran away from. She will find more than she expected, a love that could have destroyed her.
This is great series and I recommend it to all who love reading about new amazing world building stories, especially those that lead to a very different dystopian world.
