Mantrum: An emotional outburst or an expression of anger by an adult man.I’ve never understood the attraction women have for an alpha male, until I meet single father, Rex Winters.Tall, chiseled, and persistent, he tries to avoid a parking ticket by asking me out to dinner. But I know men like him. He’s a repeat offender–habitually getting into trouble and always ready to sweet talk his way out … sweet talk his way out of it.
But his charm won’t work on me.
Not when he’s the reason I’m forced to attend a six-week anger management class. And especially not when I find out all six feet two inches of Rex and his two hundred pounds of sexy muscle will be joining me every single time.
It doesn’t matter how much he flirts, or how attracted to him I am. I’m the girl who enforces rules for a living and he’s the guy who breaks them.
Do opposites really attract?
I guess we’re about to find out.
This is a romantic comedy standalone

Mantrum is a standalone romantic comedy that is told in the first-person point of view of Rex and Danika.
Danika is a Parking Enforcement Officer who loves her career. She is no stranger to dealing with people who try to get out of tickets but she did not expect Rex to have a “Mantrum” and slap another guy while she was trying to give him a ticket. Add in more spectators with their phones out video tapping and a power-tripping police officer and Danika loses her cool. Mandated to take an anger management course in order to save her job the last person she expected to walk into her class and be paired with was Rex.
Rex is a single dad who co-owns a contracting company with his brother Adam. Rex tries to sweet-talk Danika into going on a date with him instead of giving him his ticket but when a by-stander refuses to quit going at Danika, Rex’s temper gets the better of him. After Adam bails him out of jail Rex agrees to return to anger management class for the fifth time to try and finally control his anger issues, or as he likes to call them “Mantrums”. Once Rex notices Danika is in the same class he makes it his mission to get her to finally agree to go on a date with him.
Mantrum was the first book that I read by Jacob Chance and I will definitely be reading more of his novels. I enjoyed the witty banter back and forth between Rex and Danika and the way their romance built throughout the book. I would class Mantrum as more of a contemporary romance with some humour sprinkled in then a romance comedy.
Okay so we all know Jacob Chance for his Boston Terrier series but him writing something outside of this series is scary and mind blowing. Not only is he talented but to make me want more of Rex and his brothers is crazy. We heard of tantrums but a mantrum now that is just genius by Jacob. I loved that Rex may seem always angry but he has reasons and boy are they hillarious most of the times. Now Danica was a little hard to warm up and boy when she let’s up she goes wild. Rex is perfect for her and this single dad is just amazing minus the little tantrums he does have. One thing for sure Jacob is definetly a man of many talents and readers who never read of him before this is a great book to see where his imagination goes and wicked sense of humor. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
Jacob Chance knows how to write exactly what I want to read!
Mantrum is sooo good! Rex and Dani have this insane chemistry that just pulls you immediately into their story. The dialogue between them had me laughing from their first interaction.
Witty banter, heart, and humor had me noting that this will likely be one of the best romcoms released this year.
Here’s hoping that JC decides to give Rex’s brothers, and Dani’s friends, their own stories in the future!
Mantrum by Jacob Chance is a hilarious romantic comedy that can be read as a standalone. I can just picture it now, men and women will now be telling their significant other who is a male, “Awww … Are you throwing a mantrum?”
Mantrum: An emotional outburst or an expression of anger by an adult male.
Rex Winters is definitely an adult that is all … Male. This sexy single father has anger issues which at times has him respond to a situation in an extreme manner. When he confronts Danika, a beautiful Parking Management Officer, he realizes his responses have consequences that affect others. This last outburst has him attending anger management classes … AGAIN. This time there is someone different in class and the lessons are worth giving it all he has got.
I enjoyed everything about this story. Jacob Chance hooked me from the first page with its humor, I smiled throughout the read and had laugh out loud moments. The connection between Rex and Danika is hot but what I love about them is that it has me as the reader feeling those butterflies in the stomach because of the feeling of what’s to come in their relationship. It’s perfectly written giving the reader (me) that slow-burning tease that has one feeling like a giddy school girl with a crush. The secondary characters are a burst of fresh air, they are funny, sexy and left me wanting more.
Mantrum is the perfect rom-com to start my year.
5 Swoon-worthy Stars!
When Rex and Danika meet fireworks happen literally! Rex is trying to defend Danika a traffic enforcement officer from abuse and ends up getting arrested, Danika loses her temper and yells at a woman bystander. Both of them end up meeting again at an anger management class and they are put together as partners to help each other out when they can. Rex is already very attracted to Danika, but she is reluctant to be more than just friends.
This is a fun romp as we watch these two get closer. We see Rex struggling to control his temper so as not to frighten Danika away, while she comes to terms with her feelings for Rex. What an awesome guy he is going out of his way to make Danika see that he really is a good guy. You really have to cheer him on. Lots of fun dialogue and intense heat between these two. A very cute and sexy story, loved it.
I had a blast reading this. It’s the perfect situation of opposites attract and with witty banter and the sexiness and connection you need between two characters. Rex and Danika had me shaking my head from the beginning but in a good way. I was smiling the whole time and had a few moments where I couldn’t stop laughing.
Finding His Calm
He has anger issues, she is his calm. An unlikely meet up that leads to happily ever after.
Rex is a single dad of a teenage daughter. He works in construction and often operates on impulse rather than rationally. Inevitably his inability to control his temper creates havoc in his life.
Danika loves her job and order in her life. A single, divorcee who isn’t looking for a hook up. When she gives away her heart again, she wants him to be the one.
The day she hands him a parking ticket changes both their lives forever. She resists his advances but he keeps popping up. He knows exactly what he wants and he’s willing to prove himself to her.
Rex is fun and sarcastic. A loving father. But he lets too many little things get to him. Danika is beautiful and sweet. She has a mind of her own and is not about changing what she wants for anyone. He makes her a little wild. She brings him the peace he needs. It’s a story of letting someone see you at your lowest so they can help you grow as a person. Showing your vulnerability and laying it all on the line. Risking it all to get the girl. Rex was a work in progress. He may not have been perfect, but his love for Danika was perfection.
Where do I even begin? I couldn’t put this book down. Jacob has written a story that could hit home for some of us. We all have a temper from time to time, but some people need help in controlling it.
Mantrum, is a romantic comedy that centers on the enemies to friends to lovers relationship of Danika and Rex. Rex is a contractor with a temper. Danika, a Parking Enforcement Officer with the Boston Police Department. She usually is cool and calm tempered person until she meets Rex, then part of her life gets out of control.
Jacob has written a comedic storyline that a lot of readers can relate to. Both Danika and Rex are well written characters that some may be able to recognize themselves within these two characters. Their chemistry is undeniable. This chemistry is reflected not just in the bedroom, but in life in general. They are a great match-up. I hope to see them in the future. Antrum is a fun, steamy, romcom that will melt the hearts of those with the biggest tempers. A 5 hammer must read. I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were not influenced by the author or his promotional team.
Jacob’s done it again!
Mantrum is another phenomenal RomCom that I have come to expect from this author but these characters and their story exceeded my expectations for this book with their intense slow burn enemies to lovers romance and the outstanding way they complete each other from the very beginning.
Danika and Rex will draw you in from the very beginning with their snark, quick wit and keep laughing out loud the entire time. I couldn’t put it down.
Highly recommended!
Have you ever signed up to review a book just because the title? Well I did. I was floored by the witty charm of the title Mantrum and I decided to read it. And I was not disappointed. Jacob Chance put romance between two souls dealing with anger issues differently. And we have a sweet and spicy love story! The one liners in this story along with some extremely hilarious circumstances made me laugh and smile a lot. The emotions were very real, relatable and hundred percent swoonworthy. Mantrum was an entertaining mixed bag of amazing characters, delightful story line and crisp writing!
Danika and Rex met under very unusual circumstances. Danika is a Parking Law Enforcer and she gave Rex a parking ticket. Some camera phone, brawl with a stranger and intervention of a hardball police officer later; they both end in an anger management class. And they are paired up by the counsellor. Slowly they come to know more and more about each other. And a magical chemistry is born.
I love Rex wholeheartedly. First, he is gorgeous and oh so hot! Second, he has an amazing personality. He can be an arrogant, hothead and explosive kind of man. But essentially he is a very kind, caring, protective and adorable guy. And he is a responsible single dad who loves his daughter more than anything! Third, damn he can charm a girl with his gestures. My heart could not handle that much swoony little yet meaningful gestures. I will never forget a single date in this book. Because they were so much fun, sexy and so much enjoyable. Danika is the perfect partner for him. Because she is level headed, confident and can hold her own in face of Rex’s rage. She is smart, successful in her own career and deals with her insecurity issues very well. She calmed down Rex’s restless energy. And Rex put more confidence and fire in her. They have this beautiful chemistry that I felt in my heart!
Mantrum by Jacob Chance was a swoonworthy, witty, sexy and emotional love story. It was full of memorable moments and intense feelings!
