Mick Ranger sacrificed his freedom to keep his country safe. Now he’s out of prison and has nothing to lose… government, aid comes in a tight-fitting skirt and heels.
Cassandra Donovan, attorney and newly appointed chief operating officer of Shadow Force International, never expected her boss to send her on a mission to break a SEAL out of prison. Worse, she must recruit the handsome lieutenant to the SFI team in order to stop an extremist threatening the world with an incurable virus. The King Killer is just the man to do the job, but Mick won’t sign the contract. He seems more interested in getting her in bed than stopping a pandemic. How far will Cassie go to complete her first mission and will she lose her heart in the process?
Shadow Force International: A group of former SEALs, abandoned by the United States and labeled as rogue operatives, now work as a black ops team performing private intelligence, security, and paramilitary missions for those who have nowhere else to turn. I am absolutely loving this series from Misty Evans! Man Killer delivered everything I love in a romantic suspense, with a perfect balance of action, intrigue, heart, and heat.
Mick Ranger is my kind of hero – yeah, he’s a bit cocky and can come off as a bit cavalier, but the man has mad skills so he’s definitely earned the ego. What I loved most about Mick was his heart. After everything he’s been through it would be easy to understand if he had more hard edges, but there was a gentleness about him that Cassie brings out. His instinct to protect is off the charts, but he isn’t overbearing, letting Cassie do what she needs to while making sure she is safe.
Cassie was the perfect partner for Mick. She’s not an agent, but she’s smart and she knows how high the stakes are when it comes to this mission, so she’s not afraid to step in when it becomes clear that she is needed. From their first encounter Mick has her all hot and bothered, and it was fun to watch this normally straight-laced, business-focused woman struggle to keep herself together when Mick is around.
This book starts with a bang – literally – and ends with a showdown, and as much as I loved the action, I just loved how great Mick was for Cassie. He was exactly what she needed to move past her insecurities and begin to see herself as others do – and he did it all without fanfare or drama, just with a matter-of-fact attitude that didn’t leave room for any excuses. There was no shortage of chemistry between these two, and I loved how confident Cassie was with Mick when it came to their sexy times – totally hot!
One of my favorite things about this series is that there are always a few characters from other books in the series that make an appearance and they always add the right something extra to the story, be it friendship or logistics to make the plot sound. And I’m a huge Beatrice fan (she runs SFI), so I always look forward to seeing how she gets woven into each story.
If you love romance or suspense, Misty Evans always delivers the perfect pairing and her books should definitely be on your TBR!
Another winner!
Thanks to my nearly life-long love of spies (due in large part to my impressionable middle-school mind and Scarecrow and Mrs. King), I’m loving Ms. Evans’ spin-off series even more than the original–and that’s quite a feat!
I knew from the teaser chapter from the end of book one ( Man Hunt ) that this one was going to be one heck of a ride, and am happy to report that Cassie and Mick’s story did not disappoint. Whether they were working undercover together or chilling out with a bowl of popcorn in front of a late-night movie (or doing something even better after the movie), those two were magic together…and the suspense portion of this romantic suspense was top notch.
Though that scene with the bats is going to haunt me–and unlike our protagonists, I actually like bats, so thanks for that, Ms. Evans!
Once again we’ve got another teaser for the next book at the end of this one– Man Down, SEALs Of Shadow Force: Spy Division, Book 3 –and of course, once again I can’t wait until I can get my hands on it!
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Mick Ranger is finally rescued from prison. He’s been held in solitary for over two years. Now his friends who work for Shadow Force International: Spy Division have engineered his escape. They want him to join this covert group. He’s needed on a mission. On the rescue chopper he meets Cassandra, a lawyer for Shadow Force. Their instant attraction is powerful. I enjoyed how they both tried to hide what they felt from each other. Cassandra is amazing. She’s not afraid to go into a dangerous situation even though she has no spy training. Mick is worried. He wants to make sure that Cassie is safe. He’s a true hero. They want to save the world from enemies who plan to use viruses to gain power and exact revenge. Man Killer combines non-stop action and romance. I enjoyed seeing the Shadow Force team in action. They are a power to be reckoned with. Misty Evans has written characters that I liked. The storyline is powerful. The use of biological weapons is a real threat in today’s world. I’m enjoying this series. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
This is the second book in the series and I’m really intrigued by this series. They’re quick reads that pack a punch. This book had me hooked right from the beginning. The suspenseful parts had me on the edge of my seat. I really liked the banter and interaction between Mick and Cassie. They both pulled different sides out of each other. The ending had the romantic in me happy sighing. This is a book you don’t want to pass up.
Wow, just, wow…this book starts quickly and moves quickly with lots of action in this spy thriller. It opens with Mick breaking out of a foreign prison (with SFI’s help). Before he’s even had a chance to put his feet on home soil, Cassie begins a hard sell on his signing with SFI and completing a mission immediately. He has no interest in it and only wants to go home, but Cassie has a rather large stick (supplied by Beatrice) if he doesn’t agree. I loved their characters and especially loved Mick’s story.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable romantic spy thriller that fans of the genre will love. While part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, it’ so good that you really owe to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors’ list, and each book of hers is better than the one before. If you haven’t yet discovered this author, you’re really missing out on some wonderful books.
Man Killer is the newest outstanding entry in the SEALS of Shadow Force: Spy Division. It wasn’t quite as good as the first one but it was still outstanding. Man Hunt was a 10 so the competition was tough. The novel begins and ends with a bang while the middle is mostly the wonderful chemistry of our newest members of Shadow Force while they plan the mission. Boy, was there some great chemistry. Would it be crude to mention that the explosions here were pretty impressive, too? Misty Evans is so talented a create people in unusual situation who still feel as real as my neighbors and her action scenes leave me out of breath, but it is so worth it.
I was excited to receive a copy of this wonderful ARC from the author whose work I have always loved but I also order my own copy of the book. I review by my own choice.
I loved this second book of the new SEALs of Shadow Force series.
The story centers around Navy SEAL Mick Ranger, and attorney and new employee of Shadow Force Int’l.
Mick has spent over 2 years in a prison when he is finally rescued, not by the US government ,but by Shadow Force. Cassandra is sent to be sure he ’s hired and signs a contract since they need Mick for a mission.
Little did either know that their lives would change forever.
The plot is engaging from the page one, filled with action, bad guys, a hunky hero, the possibility of a virus epidemic and a strong, determined woman named Cassandra.
Will they be able to stop the virus and stay alive in doing so?
Can’t wait to see what else this talented author has in store for us.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Man Killer was another absolutely brilliant spy thriller from Misty Evans. I loved the main characters, Mick and Cassandra were just fantastic, together and in their own ways, I loved the chemistry between them it was just wonderful.
The storyline was a thrill a minute adventure of epic proportions, which is just what I’ve come to crave from SEALs of Shadow Force, this series is an all-time favorite of mine and I do love that even in this new Spy Division we still have old favorites drop in to lend a hand too.
A brilliant story I couldn’t put down from beginning to the very end.
