This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky. Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance. But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a … champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.
Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.
So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-night stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk–not a euphemism–made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.
They’ll just play house and make some whoopie–pies, of course–for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.
But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

Making Whoopie, another delicious book by Erin Nicholas, book three in her Hot Cakes series, is a “can’t put down” story that includes a few of my favorite things. There’s chocolate, YUM!!!! Then there’s baking, a definite stress relief for me; although the characters found a way to take baking to a whole new level. Lastly, there’s a marriage of convenience, one of my favorite tropes. I was definitely ready and willing to read this story.
Jocelyn Asher was Zoe’s best friend and only employee. Josie loved baking sweets for the bakery; despite not being able to change Zoe’s grandmother’s recipes, add new items, and not having any benefits. Enter her knight in shining armor, or rather Grant Lorre; a man with a plan who was attracted to Josie. When Josie needs her gallbladder removed things got a bit sticky since she didn’t have health insurance. Grant is not a guy you think of having fun, being spontaneous or acting without thinking; so proposing a marriage of convenience for health insurance to Josie is outside his usual comfort zone. Josie and Grant not only find themselves married but married to strangers. Somehow, between playing spreadsheet strip, licking batter off a whisk, making whoopee – pies, and playing house, the idea of a divorce becomes a foreign and unwanted feeling. Somehow, these two discovered a recipe for falling in love and wanting to stay together.
Ms. Nicholas tends to create her characters to be appealing, magnetic, sizzling and ready for some action. Once again she outdid herself by writing an amazing, sizzling story with a charming hero and a heroine in need of saving, with terrific best friends, that is definitely not to be missed. Plus again, I learned a number of new uses for desserts during foreplay. This is a tale rich with emotions, sizzling chemistry, sassy and charming characters, giving Josie and Grant a forever love. I highly recommend Making Whoopie to other readers and cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Erin certainly turns up the heat in the kitchen in this one. Its so hot its almost nuclear. I wouldnt mind Making Whoopie with Mr Grant Lorre he is one smoking alpha hottie billionaire.
I received an early copy of this book from the author as part of her review team in exchange for an honest review.
I can’t help it, but I absolutely love this author and of course this book did not disappoint! It is the third book in a series but it can also be read as a stand alone – but who am I kidding – you’re going to want to read them all.
I read several books a month, but I can honestly say that when I sat down with this book I paused after about 3 chapters and said to myself – this author is so “FUN” to read! The book is hot and has some language, but it’s such a wonderful break from reality!
Be sure to check out how Grant decides to help Josie out of her financial bind!
When life becomes a smidge inconvenient count on the heart to show you the way. Making Whoopie is a sugary leap into some spicy territory. Nicholas brings on the smiles with a hint of naughty that tends to feel quite nice. Josie and Grant get off to a slow start, but once they get going, it’s full steam ahead. Nicholas serves up the sweetest kind of dessert. With a spoon of romance and a pinch of humor, Making Whoopie puts delicious on the menu and scores five stars.
Swoon!
Making Whoopie is the third book in Erin’s Hot Cakes series and they just keep getting better! I didn’t think that a marriage of convenience could be so romantic but somehow Erin managed to do it.
Josie is the sweet, adorable baker who creates magic at Buttered Up! She loves making people happy with the scrumptious treats she bakes. She has no desire for the finer things of life, she is perfectly happy with her life. She is a sucker for romance and when a stranger catches her from falling not once but twice, she can’t quit thinking about him.
Grant is the serious, no-nonsense partner of Fluke, Inc. He keeps the guys in line when their ideas get too big and handles the money side of the business. He came to town to help with the purchase of Hot Cakes but the beautiful, small town baker has caught his eye and he has found reasons to stay a little while longer.
Josie loves her job but the benefits are lacking. When she needs surgery and doesn’t have insurance to pay for it, Grant has a plan to help fix this financial burden. Marriage!
I won’t spoil the book by telling you exactly what happens but I can promise you won’t want to put it down once you start!
This is book three in the Hot Cakes Series and it’s just as enjoyable as the first two in this entertaining series. What can I say about Grant Lorre apart from he is hot and I fell really hard for this man in fact I think he is my new book boyfriend, I love a man with a sense of humour and this guy made me laugh and left me smiling like a Cheshire Cat. Jocelyn Asher is doing what she loves, baking but it’s not paying the bills, she is just jogging along but she will never ask for help especially from a man she is sleeping with…..
This book is based around a couple you can’t help loving, the chemistry is sizzling, the romance is adorable and the banter is witty but it’s the friendships and the loyalty from all the characters in this series that takes these books to another level. I was captivated from the first page to the last line and I can’t wait for more baking shenanigans from the residents of Appleby.
Making Whoopie is another hot in the kitchen (and bedroom) book from Erin Nicholas. Her characters are always sooo adorable together. Jocelyn suddenly discovers she has a daring side whenever she’s around Grant. Grant has been keeping his distance from her and when she discovers why, the challenge is on! Once things heat up in the kitchen, Grant is determined to heat things up everywhere. His need to take care of Jocelyn is twofold and Jocelyn prefers the heat between them a lot more than having him tuck her into bed alone. All she has to do is convince him that their relationship is important enough to keep. And chocolate in strategic places is ALWAYS a good idea!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
Aww Josie and Grant! I absolutely loved them. She’s a romantic and he’s gruff and serious but together they became this adorable and hot couple. A one night stand turns into a marriage of convenience that turned into love? I can’t say aww enough and keep my happy sighs in. Definitely a fun and cute and yes romantic story that will warm your heart and possibly fry your kindle as well. Their sexy moments were hot!
*I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book, and enjoyed it very much*
5 star review Making Whoopie (Hot Cakes #3) by Erin Nicholas
The third book in Ms. Nicholas latest series and it was just as entertaining as the previous books. I fell hard and fast for Grant Lorre , he made me smile throughout the story and I couldn’t wait to see if he and Jocelyn Asher would get the happily every after that they both deserved. I loved the idea of a marriage of convenience, because we all know that will lead to so much more.
What starts out as a plan for a few months suddenly heats up. As the chemistry between Grant and Jocelyn sizzled and grew, so did their feelings. This book was full of humour, some miss communication, romance and heat. There was also many laugh out loud moments which added to my enjoyment.
Making Whoopie ( what a fabulous title) is a great example of RomCom at it’s best. Erin Nicholas has a way with words that quickly draws you in and keeps you invested from the first to the last chapter.
I love this series so much! It makes me so happy! I swear I have a smile on my face the whole time I’m reading these books. Making Whoopie is the third book in the series. It’s about Grant and Josie. A small town, sweet girl and an uptight, spreadsheet guy. When these two fall(literally) into each other’s arms, the sparks begin to fly. Then add in the chocolate batter, and the chemistry is off the chart. Grant teaches woman how to be independent, financially. So when Josie is in need of help, he steps right up to the plate. Josie is the romantic. Doesn’t care that she lives paycheck to paycheck. Just wants to make people happy. What started as a business arrangement, seems to turn into something more. Can these two make it work? Does Josie take Grants advice about trying to venture on her own? Does Grant start to realize that Josie just doesn’t do spreadsheets? Pick up this book today to find out all the answers. And be prepared to do a lot of smiling, maybe even laugh.
Erin Nicholas is the best. Her characters have so much life in them.
Grant is the no-nonsense financial guy who is always there to rein in his friends and partners in Fluke, Inc. So when they all decide to buy sweets factory, he comes to small town Appleby to watch over everyone. There he meets Josie, a baker. She lives her life simply, with no spreadsheets or 401ks. On paper, these two are as opposite as can be.
But they are drawn to each other and just can’t stay away. So what starts as a sexy one night stand turns into a marriage of convenience. Sidenote: the marriage is for healthcare – is this not the most American thing you’ve ever heard??
The romance is on point, the sex scenes are HOT (with a capital H), and the interpersonal relationships are just so rewarding to read about. Everything feels so real and relatable. The side characters are important and interesting without overpowering the story.
I love Erin Nicholas and always will.
There are some irrefutable truths in life. The sun rises in the east. The Earth spins on its axis. The moon romances the tides into a dance of ebb and flow. And there are no characters this crafty, clever scribe can pen that I won’t fall nose over toes for. I have kind of a womance (is that a thing? That should totally be a thing!) with her words, or at least a strong infatuation with them. I can’t get enough, and I love each new character more than the last!
My latest deep, abiding fondness is for small-town baker extraordinaire, Josie Asher, and Mr. Large and In Charge, Grant Lorre, whose sole purpose in life seems to be keeping his partners in line. He’s also a proponent of women, teaching seminars and empowering them to be fiscally responsible and financially independent. Go, Grant!
Small-town Appleby, IA, is the setting for this delightful, swoony story, featuring two main businesses and a generational Hatfield-McCoy-style feud between the Hot Cakes snack cake factory and the local bakery, Buttered Up. Grant is one of the Hot Cakes’ owners and Josie works with her best friend, Zoe, at Buttered Up.
Grant and Josie are my new favorite couple! I love them individually as much as I love them together. They seem like complete opposites, but their differences complement each other and make them a perfect unit. A strong cast of secondary characters, quirky peripheral players and a charming, small-town setting all make for an enticing backdrop for this compelling, entertaining journey to forever.
Sweetly swoony, decadently delicious, and with layer upon layer of poignant heart, this one is an exquisite treat. You’ll have a refreshing escape and a delightful experience as these characters own you completely, leaving you with a smile on your face and the happiest of happy sighs in your heart.
This is the third book in the series and the books just keep getting better. Josie and Grant are opposites but are drawn to each other like magnets. They have a one night stand that is clearly a start to their relationship even if they don’t know it. Grant always watches out and takes care of people. Josie is giving and doesn’t want credit for any of her baking – just seeing people happy has been enough for her. When Grant finds out that Josie needs surgery and doesn’t have insurance, he proposes a fake marriage to add her on his insurance. Can this marriage turn out to be exactly what they each need? He can take care of her and help her find out that she is able to be a profitable baker herself. She can learn to accept help and praise for her baking. The humor in this book is wonderful. I really like Erin Nicholas’ writing and the way she can turn a phrase that makes me laugh. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. I also have my own copy on order. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
I freaking love this series! 5 hot cake stars for this one!
We meet Josie, she works in the kitchen decorating the baked goods at her best friend Zoe’s bakery. She’s quite content doing what she’s doing, she also does baking on the side for people, it’s what brings her joy! When Grant comes around, she feels an instant attraction to him, he’s the brains behind the four friends business, he’s the one that keeps them in check, an alpha and she finds him irresistible!
Follow their story as they come together in a business like arrangement, can they keep their true feelings out of it? Read along and find out!
I love this series, grab the first two, while not necessary for this story, you will fall in love with all the characters in those also!!
I am enjoying my time in Appleby, Iowa, and of course seeing our awesome friends again. I have always been intrigued by Grant and I really liked getting to see more of him and learning what makes him tick. Josie has always been fun and there for everyone and I did enjoy her getting to become friends with Grant and then Grant’s plan out of nowhere to help her with her having no insurance but needing it. Grant stepped up and took charge of helping her when she was sick, to everything that happened in Chicago, but I knew eventually something would have to give. I appreciated Grant confiding in Cam and was impressed that Cam kept quite a few pretty big secrets, but I was more than impressed when he and Whitney worked together on keeping Grant busy so that Josie could make things right. I am glad Josie finally had the hard conversation with Zoe and made a great decision for her and her ‘on the side’ business. My personal to-do list from this book: I want to go find some Whoopie Pies and cheesy potatoes, and to read whatever legal document you are signing. We were also able to spend some time with Ollie, Cam, Whitney, and Piper, definitely looking forward to seeing what happens down the road with their stories. So excited for our next visit to Appleby.
Wow, Erin Nicholas did it again. Absolutely adored this marriage of convenience and opposites attract. They are perfect together and bring out the best in each other. Great dialogue, so steamy, heart, friends and family. Plenty going on to keep your attention from the beginning to the end. Definitely recommend reading this book along with the series. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
5 stars
Jocelyn is a baker at BUTTERED UP, a shop owned by her best friend Zoe. She loves baking and seeing people’s faces when they see what she created. She has a little side job, that Zoe doesn’t know about, where she makes items for people who don’t have time or who can’t bake. But when she keeps getting a pain in her shoulder and then her stomach, she has to see a professional. Grant is part of FLUKE and is part owner of HOT CAKES in the little town. He is all about teaching women how to not be dependent on a man. He and Josie have a one night stand that turns into marriage. With no insurance, Grant convinces Josie to marry him so she’ll be covered under his plan and can have surgery. After the surgery they will get divorced and go on with their lives. But he never expected to fall in love with his wife.
Josie is beautiful and has no idea how to work a spreadsheet. Grant is handsome and thinks Josie needs to learn to put a little money away. Excellent story with romance and sex with icing. I loved Whitney and Ollie working together. Can’t wait for Whitney’s story.

The Hot Cakes Series gets better and better! A hot, bossy, alpha male mixed with a sweet, sassy female baker and Making Whoopie is the perfect recipe for Erin Nicholas’ newest romcom!
The romantic, never wants to leave Appleby, IA baker literally falls into the steady arms of Grant Lorre. A man known for his spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations. There isn’t a romantic or fanciful thing about Grant, at least not one that his friends would accuse him of, but Josie gets to know a different side to the bossy billionaire and every bossy, caveman, protective streak in him calls to the romantic side in her.
When Josie needs surgery and she has no insurance or nest egg set aside to cover the procedure Grant offers to cover it. When Josie refuses his money he offers himself up instead and by that I mean, he offers himself up as her husband so she is covered on his insurance. She takes his offer, considering their amazing chemistry, but more so it doesn’t cost Grant a small fortune to be his wife, just the potential to lose her heart.
Making Whoopie is steamy and funny and full of protective, alpha male that will make you swoon. Baking will never be the same again!! I don’t know why I’m continually amazed that each book gets better and better, because Erin does it with every series I read of hers, but I LOVE this book and I’m so excited to read what comes next!
Can cheesy potatoes be sexy and make one hot and bothered? Ask Jocelyn Asher.
Jocelyn “Josie” Asher has felt an attraction toward Grant Lorre since they first met. When he caught her when she was falling he became her sexy hero. Grant was attracted to Josie but tried to keep away. That didn’t work out as he expected.
Making Whoopie by Erin Nicholas is the third book in her Hot Cakes series. This was a fun read for me with lots of smiles and laughs. The characters are very likable. The dialogue is great with lots of flirting, dirty talk and innuendo. I love how romantic this story is. It was great to see Josie and Grant get a Happily Ever After. The story didn’t end as I expected though. I have to think some more about that.
This book was awesome (and very hot!). I had no idea what Grant and Josie were going to be like but boy was I pleasantly surprised-from cheezy potatoes to sexy spreadsheet tutorials. Grant and Josie are the quiet, dependable, caregivers of the group and from the moment he caught Josie in his arms (twice) Grant, the pragmatist, was intrigued but determined to keep his distance. Josie, also the romantic, was taken with Grant the moment he caught her but due to his “disinterest” was trying hard to convince herself they were just too different. However, after a fateful dinner at Zoe’s mom’s, they both finally gave in to what they both wanted-each other. I don’t want to give away what happens between then and the HEA because it was just so darn perfect for these two characters and so fun to read! Grab and enjoy (warning: so hot but so sweet)
