This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky. Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance. But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a … champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.
Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.
So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-night stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk–not a euphemism–made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.
They’ll just play house and make some whoopie–pies, of course–for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.
But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

This was such a good read! The writing flowed well from start to finish, and I loved Josie and Grant together. They had great chemistry right from the start! Grant had one idea of what things should be like, and Josie had another. It was sweet to see that they realized they could learn from the other. It took Josie a while, but I was happy to see her realize that she did deserve something just for her. I loved that Grant finally saw that Josie didn’t NEED him, but she WANTED him, and there’s a difference. The ending was perfect for these two, and I can’t wait to find out what happens with the next partner!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Loved this heartwarming, laugh out loud, crazy sexy and action packed small town journey filled with engaging and hard not to adore charters, witty dialog, heart jerking twists and sweetly thrilling passion….. Was an emotionally thrilling adventure and I am so addicted to this sweet small town.
“As if she’s been sitting around, just waiting for you to show up and ride her off into the sunset when really, her favorite sunsets are right here, and she’s already had them every night for twenty-five years.” – Jaw, on the floor. This is my all time favorite quote from an Erin Nicholas book. She can truly do no wrong!
I’ve been waiting for Grant and Jocelyn’s story since their two insanely romantic meet cutes in Jane and Dax’s book. I knew the general overview of the book going into it, but I was completely blown away by this story. Grant is always the one in the group keeping others in line, making sure no one gets too crazy or does anything too outrageous. He wants to get out of Appleby as soon as he can, but one thing, or should I say a certain someone, is keeping him around. Jocelyn. He cannot stay away and it’s driving him nuts.
Jocelyn has always been a more behind their scenes type of person. She loves her friends, her family, and has a job that she truly enjoys working with her best friend. But she’s always had bigger dreams for herself. Dreams of romance and a long time love. But when life takes and unexpected turn, and she needs help, Grant makes a completely unexpected proposal that she’d be crazy to pass up.
This book had everything I love about a great romance, and then some. The story line was fun and unique, was full of life and characters that you want to surround yourself with each and every day, and was overflowing with heat. This has to be Erins steamiest book yet.
Couldn’t put this one down! Bring on Cam’s story, I’ll be impatiently waiting until then!!
Making Whoopie is the third book in Erin Nicholas’ Hot Cakes series. So far, this series has been a hit for me with Sugarcoated and Forking Around gaining 5 propeller ratings. I love seeing small-town girls knock big city boys off their feet and that is exactly what the ladies of Appleby, Iowa are doing to the businessmen from Chicago. These poor men may never be the same and that would be just fine with them. Grab your coffee and a cupcake (you will get that joke after you read the book) and let’s chat about Erin Nicholas’ Making Whoopie.
Grant is used to making logical decisions. Of his business partners, he is the level headed one who looks at the grandiose dreams of his co-workers and brings them back to a workable reality. He spends his “free” weekends doing financial seminars for women so that they can stand on their own two feet and not depend on men to take care of them. He dates confident and sophisticated women who have 401Ks and own ultra-modern condos in Chicago. Women very much, unlike the small-town baker, Josie, who has Grant feeling protective and making spontaneous decisions like running off to Chicago and getting married.
Josie works for her best friend at Buttered Up but she also runs a side business out of her home. She bakes things for people in the community who don’t have time to do it themselves. You know, the working soccer moms who volunteered to make homemade brownies for the bake sale. Josie doesn’t sell anything that could be purchased at Buttered Up so it’s not really a conflict of interest. It gives her extra money to work on the beautiful 1800s Victorian mansion that has been in her family for generations which is always in need of repair or upgrades. She has a little nest egg but a sudden illness requires surgery and Josie doesn’t have health insurance. Grant, with his hero-complex, steps in a decides the fastest way for Josie to get insurance is for them to get married.
Stop right there! I know what you are thinking, “great – another book about a fake relationship”. I thought the same thing but Erin Nicholas has made it feel a little different so give it a chance before you walk away. As always, Erin Nicholas has created a great group of characters. I fell in love with Grant and yet wanted to thrash him at the same time. Josie is a hilarious character who deserves a may who will step away from the spreadsheets and live. It was so much fun to watch Josie attempt to pull Grant’s type-A head out of his butt!
My rating for Erin Nicholas’ Making Whoopie…5 out of 5 propellers!
Making Whoopee is the third book in Erin Nicholas’ latest series, Hot Cakes. This is a really fun and deliciously sexy series, and Making Whoopee is a terrific addition to the series. Making Whoopee features Jocelyn and Grant. We’ve met both of these characters in the first two books in the series, and I was really looking forward to their book. Grant is an accountant and a master of finance. He’s the cool, logical voice of reason in his group of friends and partners. It was fun to discover that beneath that calm, collected exterior beat a heart of a VERY passionate man. Jocelyn is apparently the spark that lights his fire! The chemistry between them is really hot, and this book delivers lots of steamy scenes that will ensure I never look at cupcakes the same again. I really liked how these characters bring out the best in each other. As always, Erin Nicholas delivers a town full of ancillary characters that we get attached to so that each visit feels like a trip home. I really liked that some of the central issues that are raised in this book are “real life” and “real people” issues—even when one of the characters is a billionaire. Nicholas does a really good job fleshing out her characters, and making them feel like real people that you want to spend time with. Making Whoopee is no exception. I genuinely want to see more from all these characters and anxiously await the next book in this series.
I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this story and characters! it was a quick and easy read.
Jocelyn’s got an unrequited crush on Grant, the man who comes into the bakery where she works and never buys the yummy treats she bakes. It really sucks that she’s lusting over him eating cheesy potatoes and he could care less about her. But after that dinner with all their friends, Grant lays a kiss on her that lets her know he most certainly feels the same attraction for her that she does for him. When it becomes apparent she needs health insurance that a marriage to him would get her, will their marriage of convenience bring them closer together or drive them apart as soon as she’s recuperated from her surgery and no longer needs his insurance?
I’ve really liked this series about a group of men who take over a town snack factory, and find themselves falling for some of the local women. But with this one, I can safely say I LOVE it! Grant and Josie are a pair of opposites who are perfect for each other. Their chemistry is by far the hottest of the series, and they’re ooey gooey sweet together even as they’re steaming up the kitchen. And the bedroom. And every room in between.
Who knew baking could be so very steamy?! Josie has no idea that her seemingly unrequited crush on the deliciously serious and oh so hunky Grant is actually very much reciprocated. But there’s no denying the attraction that explodes in chapter one and continues to burn throughout this fabulous newest installment of the Hot Cakes series.
This book hit every single button for me…adorably sweet heroine, broody and serious hero and so much steamy goodness! There’s nothing hotter than bedroom (or kitchen) fun with couples who really enjoy each other, in and out of their clothes. Josie and Grant were that couple for me.
Filled with yummy goodness, Making Whoopie is my favorite book of the series (at least so far) and I couldn’t put it down!
Shesh, this book. I loved it! Although it is about a “fake marriage,” it isn’t anything like what I expected! It is filled with lol moments, heat, angst and DRAMA! I enjoyed everything about this book! I received this book at no cost in exchange for my honest review.
I’m ruined for other book boyfriends! With book three in her ever hilarious Hot Cakes series Erin Nicholas brings Grant Lorre to the forefront in MAKING WHOOPIE and he had me from hello! The story was fast paced, sweet and OH so steamy. I can’t wait for more in the series!
Josie is a doll of a character. She’s been front and center in this series since book one as Zoe’s sidekick at the bakery, but this time we get to know what makes her happy and go along for the ride as she falls for Grant.
Grant was supposed to be the gruff unfriendly one right? Wrong! He’s a big ol’ grumpy teddy bear and I adored him. He’s the levelheaded guy of the group, but he has a heart of gold.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone looking for a fast paced story line that always brings a boatload of laughs and love. A close knit group of friends are finding their forever loves one by one and it’s so much fun to watch!
Holy Hotcakes this book was pure fire! From the very first page to the last this story had my absolutely hooked. I always knew underneath all that seriousness Grant Lorre was filthy and I am so here for it. Filthy with a side that I didnt expect but absolutely adore, Grant is the perfect match for Josie, who I was really excited to see come to the forefront of the series and really get to know. A fantastic addition to the series, I cant wait for Cam and Whitney!
Wow. The Hot Cakes series keeps getting better and better. Just when I think it doesn’t get any better than this Erin Nicholas swoopes in and proves me wrong. I love all of her books. She creates magical worlds I want to visit.
In Making Whoopie, book three in the Hot Cakes series, we get Grant and Josie’s story.
Josie needs surgery but lacks medical insurance. Grant has medical insurance and offers to marry Josie so she can use his insurance. Let the good times full of sweets and sticky, hot fun begin. Guaranteed to make your heart swoon and your mouth water.
Josie and Grant have chemistry. I love watching them grow individually and as a couple. I love seeing them overcome their struggles. I love catching up with the secondary characters.
Making Whoopie was an easy to follow along book. The plot was phenomenal. I saw myself a part of the story and not just reading it. I laughed, cried and had heartswooning moments. Whew talk about hot. I read this in one night and was left with wanting more as well as a big sweet tooth. Erin Nicholas captivated my heart and soul. Her words danced in my heart. Grab your copy and grab you something sweet, you’ll definitely want it and read Making Whoopie. Join me and so many others in Appleby where loads of fun, sweet, delightfully sweet adventures await you.
Fun story!
While Jocelyn and Grant seem like opposites, their attraction to one another is very definitely mutual.
He’s all big city executive, she’s a small town baker. He’s high-rise penthouse living and she loves living in the over one hundred-year-old house that has been in her family forever.
Both have been strongly influenced by their respective families but in very different ways.
While their sexy times are steamy, spontaneous and sometimes funny (a baker has a lot of interesting flavors to offer!), they both want different things in their lives. Jocelyn is perfectly happy with her lifestyle and the choices she’s made. Grant wants to “better” all he can through various avenues, including teaching a financial management type seminar to women.
So these two DO seem like opposites….
But then Joycelyn has a medical emergency and no health insurance. This spurs Grant into “fix it” mode and suggests marriage to remedy her eminent financial problems – marry him, use his health insurance and then obtain an annulment later.
Joycelyn is a romantic at heart, Grant claims to not be one. But, given her situation, she agrees to his proposal.
So begins an entertaining adventure – and are they really as opposite as they seem?
Great supporting characters – definitely want to read their stories too!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.
I’m loving meeting the characters in this series!
Making Whoopie stars Grant and Josie. The opening scene had me chuckling. While eating at the McCaffery household, Josie thinks that watching Grant eat cheesy potatoes is sexy as hell. She has many things running through her mind and needs to leave early. Grant, of course, follows her out the door and it’s game on from there.
Grant may seem “all business” to the people that have been around him for years. But something about Josie brings him out of that suit and tie mode he’s been wearing for years. Josie has been so busy working with her BFF, Zoe McCaffrey, at Buttered Up and baking for the residents of Appleby on the side. She hasn’t been in a romantic relationship in awhile and Grant is pushing all her buttons. She’s the romantic of the group of girlfriends and with Zoe and Jane finding love, she’s been fantasizing about Grant since he caught her in his arms, not once, but twice. And she feels that he’s not interested in her.
“I’m….” She really did almost say fine. But at the last minute she said, “Stupid.”
Clearly that wasn’t the answer he’d been expecting. “Stupid?”
“Yeah. But it’s not really anything for you to worry about. It’s not fatal or anything.”
“Is it chronic?” he asked. And the corner of his mouth curled.
And she was never getting over this crush now.
Grant learns to have fun with Josie and she learns that there’s more to her than what meets the eye. I loved how their relationship developed and how they both broke out of their shells. He comes to her rescue, when she needed it, and they end up in a marriage of convenience. It becomes so much more for both of them. Grant builds up Josie’s confidence in herself and she makes him want to stay in the little town of Appleby.
Erin Nicholas is always giving us readers sweet, sexy stories with sexy, hot heroes and strong, sexy women who complete each other and make the other better. I cannot wait for Ollie’s and Cam’s stories!
“I want someone to look at me the way I look at chocolate cake!” This one line gives you an idea into the heart of the Hot Cakes series. I have read every book in the series and I adore this fictional town of Appleby, Iowa. The characters are fun and fresh. The stories have so much heart and love surrounds everyone there. Grant and Josie kept running into each other in Forking Around so we knew that their time was coming. Grant is the typical practical business man of Hot Cakes and Josie is the lovable romantic in town. They were both concerned that they had absolutely nothing in common other than their scorching hot chemistry. When Josie’s medical condition leads Grant to find out that she’s uninsured he suggests a marriage of convenience. This way Grant can take care of her problem and no one gets hurt. Well best laid plans and all that! Making Whoopie is a fun rom com that stands alone however the characters from the other stories are mentioned throughout the book. It was told from dual POV and is the perfect summertime book!
Loved, Loved, Loved this story! Fun, sassy heroine Josie needing health care she can’t afford. Straight laced Grant takes care of everyone. Fake marriage for the insurance coverage but hot, intense REAL attraction. This one hit all the feelings! I laughed out loud at some of their interactions! They brought the best out in each other. He had more ambition for her but she was happy if she had enough to get by. Can they find a way to make their relationship work??
Loved it!!
Oh my goodness I absolutely loved Jocelyn and Grant’s book!! A marriage of convenience brings them together but the heat and love keeps them together. Definitely recommend this book. Can’t wait for the next one in the series.
I don’t know how she does it, but Erin Nicholas keeps topping herself with every new book I read. She is one of a select few authors whose books I always love. Each of her books has humor, heart, and, best of all, characters who aren’t perfect but are relatable.
Josie is a romantic and literally falling into Grant’s arms twice has her crush on him growing. Grant is more serious, but he has also been attracted to Josie since they first met. Their chemistry is off the charts and they definitely brought. the heat.
Their personalities also complemented each other despite how different they are. I really liked the growth of both characters individually as well as together. They are my favorite of the couples from this series so far.
There were also lots of appearances by both Josie’s and Grant’s friends who are the other hwroes and heroines in the series. The friendships are a great part of the series, and I love how much they all support each other.

Making Whoopie is book 3 in the Hot Cakes series by Erin Nicholas about 5 billionaires who return home (for a few) and buy a bakery company. Loving this series!
Up next is Grant Lorre, big city executive and Jocelyn “Josie” Asher small town baker, these two heat up the romance hotter than a bakery oven! Opposites attract, fake marriage of convenience, friendships, laughter, family and so much more happening in this town and makes me want to go visit!
Up next is Cam and Whitney…can’t wait!
Grant is the serious one, he keeps all the guys in order and fixes their bad decisions when they arise. He also has the need to help people out and with Josie, even though she doesn’t think she needs it, he wants to. He was enamored with her the first moment seeing her, or you could say catching her. Josie is the sweet baker who loves making people happy with her baked goods. But with Grant she has a naughty side. I thoroughly loved this book, laugh out loud moments throughout plus sexy ones too. If you love small town romance and fake relationships, you will love this one.
