This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky. Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance. But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a … champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.
Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.
So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-night stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk–not a euphemism–made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.
They’ll just play house and make some whoopie–pies, of course–for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.
But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

So much fun!
These two are opposites in so many ways and yet the chemistry is undeniable! A great story of love conquers all!
Jocy and Grant can be more different but they feel a powerful attraction and connection. Can they realise they need each other and fall madly in love? Erin Nicholad has a way to show feelings, deep emotions and you can’t help but fall in love with all her stories and her characters. And the audiobooks, with excellens narratots, are even better.
Making Whoopie, Book 3 of Hotcakes by Erin Nicholas is a small town romance, part of an entertaining series about a group of five young millionaires who have expanded their business from creating a popular video game to purchasing a snack cake company in the hometown of two of them. This particular story is about Grant Lorre, the money guy and super sensible adult of the group, and Josie Asher, a small-town baker, who are about as unsuited as two people could be, until one takes a closer look.
Yes, there is hot sex, plenty of it, but Grant doesn’t plan to stay in Appleby. When he learns that Josie needs gall bladder surgery but has no insurance and cannot afford it, he steps forward with an offer of a marriage of convenience in order to get her on his insurance so she can have the surgery. In the process, he falls in love. Cam, his friend and lawyer, has the divorce papers delivered and he and Josie both sign them without reading them, both intending to come back together at some point. Will this work out?
Lili Valente and Jason Clarke are Audible’s choice of narrators/readers for this story and there could not be a better choice. Clarke and is strong and masculine, and Valente hits just the right tone, not only for Josie, but for her friends. Listening to this book adds a dimension not found in the reading of the book and it is due to these two. What a wonderful choice!
I was invited by the author to listen to a free copy of Making Whoopie from Audible. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow this made me hungry! Not just for sweets either, because, yes, cheesy potatoes can definitely be sexy. Things heat up very quickly between our couple. Once they know their feelings are mutual it’s full steam ahead. It was a nice change from the slow burns I’ve become used to. Yet, despite the speed, their feelings develop organically. The lust turns to love.
All the while, Josie & Grant are both growing individually. Grant learns to love and to balance his protectiveness with his need to let the women in his life shine. Josie gains confidence and self-worth. While she also learns about romantic love, she takes steps to become a better friend as well.
Also, I am so excited for Paige’s book now. I just adore her and her love for wellness and cats.
LOVED THIS BOOK! This series is just so much fun. And Grant Laurie is…WHEW :fans self: Yeah that whole sexy caretaker works for me. KEEP ‘EM COMING Erin Nicholas !
Making Whoopie (Hot Cakes, Book 3) is a luscious story with an arranged marriage twist. I love the characters, storyline and the baking aspects of the story. I lovely hea.
Narators Jason Clarke, Lili Valente are the icing on the cake. I absolutely love this dual naration. Jason Clarke’s deep baritone inflection is intoxicating. He becomes the character in the role he is portraying. Lili Valente captures your mind with her sweet tone. Her ability to become the character brings vivid images to your mind.
The third book in Erin Nicholas’ Hot Cakes series does not disappoint. In fact, I think it might be my favorite so far. I loved the chemistry between Josie and Grant. The author always creates good heat between characters, but Grant and Josie were off the charts. The conflict in this book is a familiar trope, but because of the relationship between Grant and Josie, it doesn’t feel like a retread. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but that’s no surprise, given how I felt about the first two. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the series. The perfect marriage of convenience! Making Whoopie will own your heart from the first chapter, and I guarantee you’ll never be able to look at cheesy potatoes the same way again. A sweetly charming, romantic comedy and my favorite in the Hot Cakes series so far. A steamy read with a Cinderella-vibe that will leave you with a sweet tooth. I’m really looking forward to Cam and Whitney’s story next!
Author Erin Nicholas is an author I can always count on giving me a wonderful read and she sure did in Making Whoopie. This is the third book in the Hot Cake series which is based around a group of guys who all come together and save a snack cake factory in their home town. While doing so they find the loves of their lives in fun ways. In this book Grant Lorre has been attracted to baker Jocelyn or Josie Ashe from the get go. Fake marriage to real and lots of catching up with the other characters from the first two books. Looking forward to more in Appleby!
4.5 Stars
This is book 3 in the Hot Cakes series and it features Grant and Josie. The Grant we knew before Josie and the Grant we know after Josie are completely different. He’s a little less broody with everyone else but he radiates happiness when she’s around. Josie is more flirtatious and dirty minded than I expected. These two are absolutely combustible together.
This book was fun and sexy. It’s one of those feel-good romances that make you smile and laugh out loud. The characters are awesome and I’ll forever have different thoughts while mixing cake batter and frosting. I’d love to work at Hot Cakes with bosses like these guys. I can’t wait for the next book in this extremely entertaining series.
This book made me laugh out loud so much. Grant was great and the perfect love interest for Jocelyn. She’s been crushing on him for months but doesn’t really know him. When she needs surgery and Grant offers to marry her for insurance purposes, well she can’t really say no. Getting to know him and truly falling for him was never in Jocelyn’s plans. But when you’re making whoopie (pies), everything is a little sweeter.
Making Whoopie by Erin Nicholas is book Three in the Hot Cakes Series. This is the story of Grant Lorre and Jocelyn ‘Josie’ Asher. I have read the previous books, which did add to my enjoyment of this one but I did feel you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Josie is a local baker who works at Buttered Up but she also helps at other with her baking. Josie is the sweet women who has her heart on her sleeve sometimes but she does dream of a bakery of her own one day. Grant is the serious guy who is usually the voice of reason but something about Josie makes him loose his mind and thought process. So when they come together to do a marriage of convenience it might not be to convent. I am in love with this author’s writing and with this series. So I will be looking for more books from her.
OMG this I book is hilarious. Grant is so much “keep everything in the line’s“ type of guy that it is funny watch him stumble so much with Josie. Jocelyn is you small town girl “I don’t need much” but believe in love. So when Grant just keeps saving her ever time she falls literally she thinks of him as her knight in shining armor. But does non think he feels the same way. Till she has some health issues and he says let’s get married. Then right after shows up with divorce papers. But what have their friend and lawyer who knows them better then anyone do? For that you must read. It is not what you think. But in the process you will never think of snack food or cakes the same way. Josie as away of just making them.
Grant and Josie were great! As usual, Erin Nicholas takes you a journey to get to know these two. And while they may not seem to be a likely couple, as the story goes on you can start to see how perfect they are. Another great book in the series!!
“Making Whoopie” by Erin Nicholas was a funny and sweet, yet surprisingly steamy, story that made me hungry for baked goods while giving me a new appreciation for the versatility of chocolate cake batter at the same time. 😉 I love a good marriage of convenience story, but they aren’t easy to pull off in contemporary romance. The author did so quite well here IMO, choosing to focus on something simple and relatable – the need for health insurance coverage – to bring the main characters together, rather than being forced to marry to collect an inheritance or something else that is relatively less common.
The attraction between main characters Grant and Jocelyn (aka “Josie”) was obvious from the start, and I liked how fun and playful their relationship seemed in spite of the circumstances that brought them together. They both had a lot to learn about love and relationships, particularly in the area of compromise, but the fact that both Josie and Grant were used to taking care of others meant that they had a lot in common. Grant always thought he knew best, however, and needed to learn that sometimes Josie (and others) could handle making their own decisions and it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Overall, I very much enjoyed “Making Whoopie” and would recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance. I look forward to the next book in the series!

If you haven’t read this series yet I have one question what are you waiting for! This is the third book in the series and they just keep getting better. Dax is still my favorite, but Grant sure gave him a run for his money. Serious businessman Grant surprised me in the best of ways possible. The way he lets loose a little and has fun with Jocelyn is one of my favorite parts of the book. Jocelyn and Grant have crazy good chemistry. They have me looking at baking in a whole new light that’s for sure. Jocelyn is my soul sister. I love to bake, I’m on the very short side, and my sweet side can be a little deceiving like Jocelyn’s. This book had me hooked right from the beginning and I didn’t want it to end. I would highly recommend this is one. Really any book in this series is a must read!
This story had you hooked from the beginning once you start this one its almost impossible to put down. Outstanding story full of naughty baking and hot chemistry. I admit I didn’t see this story line coming with Grant and Josie, this is a wonderful story of the rich city slicker and the small town girl. Worth the 5 stars and more.
Oh, this was fun.
This time we have Jocelyn and Grant. They truly looked super opposite, lol. Which I loved, I love it when the super serious characters lets loose a bit.
Anyway, we have Jocelyn as an amazing baker, someone who truly loves to bake and make people happy. I loved that about her, she wasn’t in it for the glory or money. And guys, she could be like real famous, lol. She was awesome, and creative and lovely. Total girl crush on Jocelyn. <3
On the other side we have Grant, which as a super structed guy, which I also loved, since I’m kinda like that, lol. He was also super kind and generous, which was something he didn’t realize he was. That was super sweet, tbh. He sooo cared for his friends and it was a given to him to do so.
And the more we read about these two, the more they looked like the perfect match. They were great people, just going about it in different ways. It was lovely seeing them fall more and more for each other.
This was hot and cute and so sweet, it was a great surprise! Also, a prefect addition to this series.
And OMG, the next book!
*Thank you to the author for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
I loved this book!!
Josie and Grant are great together. I love how they come together, how they learn about each other, and the end of the story!!
Love them and can’t wait for the next one!!
A funny yet entertaining read with lots of loving and cute moments. On the whole it’s a great read.
