This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky. Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance. But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a … champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.
Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.
So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-night stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk–not a euphemism–made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.
They’ll just play house and make some whoopie–pies, of course–for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.
But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

They have a one night stand. They get married because she needs surgery and don’t have health insurance. Then they think they will get divorced, it’s that easy.
Well, it’s not, if both of them are in love.
This story is wonderful, I loved how Josie was, so sweet, so awesome, always helpful. Grant is always helping.
Awesome, awesome, loved, loved.
This series has been an absolute delicious treat to read so far and Making Whoopie is no exception! There are just some of the best characters in this charming little town. I had been anxiously awaiting this book because I just knew it was going to be one heck of a sweet ride for Grant and Josie! These two characters are so amazing! Both have a completely different side to them when they are together as a couple compared to what everyone else sees. Grant is gruff and sort of the dad of the group due to his natural instincts to take care of people, but with Josie he has a sweet, sexy, I want to “take care of you” side that made me swoon so hard. He’s so yummy and I just adore him!! I love Josie too! She comes off sweet as frosting but she actually has a spicy side that was really fun to see come out. That is all just to say that with each other they are rather surprising in the very best of ways and perfect together. I love their story so much!! They have some bumps to overcome as all couples do but I love how they talk about what is important to them, listen to each other and eventually work everything out together. I loved it!!!
Wow! Not sure how Erin Nicholas does it but each book gets better and better or maybe I just keep meeting new book boyfriends. Grant was not a disappointment but a surprise, can we say Hello Mr Dirty Talker!?! I was already expecting to love Grant but that little surprise definitely sealed the deal. And I must also point out what a surprise Josie was. I was expecting a sweet, small town girl and she was that but wow, sooo much more. Josie was the absolute perfect girl for Grant. The attraction esteem these two was HOt and when they got together *wink, wink* I think my kindle may have melted. This was one sexy couple and I was so rooting for them to turn their marriage of convenience in a real one.
I really liked how we got to see more of Cam and Whitney. We got a sneak peek into their relationship and how they even helped Grant figure out what he was looking for in a relationship.
This is a fantastic series and if you loved Aiden and Dax you will fall in love Grant too.
You know when you’re super excited for a book and fear that it’ll never live up to your expectations? Well don’t worry cause Grant and Josie are everything and beyond and will not let you down!
I’ve been swooning for this couple even since their first encounter and anxiously anticipating their romance. And when it came it was everything I had hoped for and more! They totally complement each other, Josie being cared for and Grant having some fun and sweet in his life. It’s always refreshing to see a gruff character turn romantic and spoil the hell out of our lovely heroine who really deserves some spoiling, and him being surprised of how much he enjoys it is the cream to the whoopie pie.
And what to say about their marriage? Well it starts in a weird way but chemistry and affection are a good starting point and when it becomes more it’s just so natural! Their coming to terms with the situation and their feelings is amazing, and I must say I think I put up some pounds just by reading about all that Josie bakes, and I can’t get enough of it!!
Can’t wait to see how Cam and Whitney’s story turns out!
I was so taken with this book I didn’t put it down. If I could have highlighted the whole book I would have. The sweetness of Grant. Swoon times 100. Jocelyn has not got a chance to make it out of this without a happily ever after. I was so happy to see them get together. I had all the butterflies with this book.
I have not forgot about the HOT Caking around they had going on. Talk about steaming up windows. They had the Steamy, hotness like no other. Blushing and steamed over glasses while waiting at the doctors office. That is when you know the book is getting good.
I was very proud of both of them for the way they worked together at the end and the growth they had with how they viewed relationships. I even dreamed about them after I finished this book. I could reread it today and still be in love with Jocelyn and Grant. They made their love story a story I am not going to soon forget.
This fun series continues with book 3 called Making Whoopie! Josie who we met in the other two books has a thing for Grant especially after he twice “caught her” when she was falling. But he has never expressed any interest and she knows he wants to return to Chicago. But the chemistry is strong and when they do get together, whoopie cake batter is definitely involved. A great romance begins even though Grant is not the romantic type. I love the little town of Appleby and the characters in this series. Reading this series will make you hungry but it is worth it! A received an ARC for an honest review.
Josie and Grant’s love story has all the feels. It has the perfect blend of sweet romance, silly moments, and fan your face sexy with a side helping of difficult real life issues. Josie has a pressing medical issue and needs health insurance. Grant has great health insurance and an overwhelming need to take care of women making it a classic marriage of convenience trope. There are a bunch of extras thrown in to this classic storyline to make it so much more – sweet close-knit small town, budding relationship instead of strangers, super romantic wedding night, secret marriage, food as an aphrodisiac, secret medical issues, and the push/pull of need versus independence. I loved that Josie was her own person and is never going to be content being “taken care of” even if financially Grant could easily afford to. I also loved that Grant did not want a woman to need him but could not fight his need to take care of Josie. On their way to their HEA, Josie and Grant find there is so much more to their relationship than a business transaction and you just cannot fight true love. Like the other books in this series, Making Whoopie includes a number of secondary characters interwoven throughout the story – some we’ve met in previous books and others are new. Rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main love story, these characters are central to Josie and Grant’s love story and to the heart of what makes small town Appleby, Iowa and the people who live there so wonderful. I am excited to hear what happens next for Hot Cakes and rest of the town. With Making Whoopie, Erin Nicholas once again proves she’s a phenomenal storyteller who creates towns we all want to live in. And the image of Josie’s naughty cream filled cupcakes and chocolate icing – oh my.

This story checked off every single box my romance-loving-heart adores: a gruff, (slightly) grumpy hero; a sunny, sassy heroine; a fake relationship that never felt fake and an ending so perfect I started reading the book all over again as soon as I finished. Plus steamy scenes so hot, I needed a fan for my over heated Kindle.
Erin Nicholas has created a truly remarkable series with Hot Cakes. A quirky small town, heartfelt friendships and fun but substantial characters make this series a must read. The steamy scenes in this book are nicely balanced with lots of romance and emotion. This story is pure magic and I absolutely loved it!
I can’t wait to see what happens in Appleby next!
