I feel like out of all the brothers, Derek is the biggest teddy bear on the inside. He just protects everyone and then forgets about himself. That is one of the sweetest things, but he is also such a hard ass. I adore him in so many ways and his book was a long time coming. Of course, he would be the last to possible fall for someone. He’s the most stubborn and complicated out of them all: the oldest brother.
This story was sweet, sexy and I’d have to say magical. The way Laura and Derek are together would make you think that they had met in another life or something. They just seemed to click and recognize each other. He is so used to protecting others that when he learns her secret he tries to do what he does best, protect. Except, she turns the tables and tries to protect him and he doesn’t quite know how to handle that. All his life, he was the protector. So he doesn’t understand it but goes along anyways with a condition of constant contact since she is in danger.
They both don’t want it to be a goodbye but it’s for the best at the time. You as the reader feel that heartache with them, when they separate and the triumph when they are together. There is so much that happens between these two that is worth reading. You’ll feel everything with these characters. It really is a beautiful thing that Adams does. I am so glad that I came across this series on BookSprout. You get to learn about each character and grow and laugh with them and their families they make. It’s just a lovely way to end the series.
So how will things end? Will everyone be safe? Will they be together?
You won’t know until you read it!
Laura lives in Vegas but has to hide until she testifies in a murder trial. She meets Derek who is there for his brother’s wedding. He is the protector of the family and when he finds out Laura is in trouble, he wants to protect her. She leaves and Derek goes back home. Then she ends up as his employee and she didn’t know he owned the shop. Derek wants her in his life but she thinks he’s only with her because he protects. Will he lose her or finally find his own happily ever after?
Fair. Not enough information. Sexy.

Steamy romantic suspense. Love the rapport amongst the brothers and will definitely read more of this series.
Fourth in a series. I have not read the others.
Fairly well edited.
Oldest of four brothers, Derek has spent his life looking out for the welfare of others. Now that his brothers have all found love, he isn’t quite sure what’s left for him. While celebrating his brother Chance’s wedding, he runs into Laura. He asks her to help protect him from his matchmaking sister-in-laws. She agrees, spends the evening, and prepares to disappear. She’s hiding from someone who wants her dead. Derek and Laura have a connection, but circumstances seem to be against them. Will Fate intervene? Will these two find a way to be together? Or, will the criminal element catch up to Laura?
This is a quick, easy read. Things move rather quickly, and some things feel a little glossed over. However, if you need something to kill a couple of hours, this will do nicely. Enjoy.
Great story wonderful mother figure in life and death read the entire series
I was so very much looking forward to reading Derek’s story – I was expecting some huge heartache from his past and a big battle to find love. Not only did I not get that (which I can accept because I was never promised it!) but I didn’t even get a ‘full’ story. This book was about half the length of the previous 3 and felt more like a book outline than a fully fleshed novel. In fact it took less than 2 hours to read, which would firmly place it in the novella category for me.
Laura and Derek met, then parted. A few weeks later they met again and then suddenly they are spending Christmas day with his family. We get retrospectively told about some events that, had we experienced them, would have added so much depth to the story. Where was all the sexual tension and build up from that was so well done in the previous three books? And why, after the prologue, was Chance consistently referred to as the youngest brother? I believe that would be Jake.
The ‘basic’ plot idea was really good, and I thoroughly enjoyed what I read. I really liked both Laura and Derek, and the chemistry between them was both scorching hot and believable. Sadly the brevity of the book made it difficult to totally buy into their relationship and their declarations of love. There was also the potential for scenes involving Brandon, but instead he felt like a footnote with no exploration of his and Derek’s relationship.
The writing is really good, with an easy to read, nicely flowing style that is easy to follow. The banter and teasing between the brothers was so warm and loving. The pace was good and kept my attention. Whilst, at times, this felt more like a book outline than a full story, it was still a warm, steamy and enjoyable read.
I gave this Book a rating of 5 ’s
