One lie can destroy everything…
After enduring years of manipulation and an immeasurable amount of loss, Charlotte Kelly makes one last ditch effort to change her life and try to find happiness again. She knows she’ll see him when she moves back to Wisconsin. She’s planning on it, the connection she still feels to him after all these years is undeniable. But one lie tore them apart years ago, … years ago, and she’s afraid some mistakes can’t be forgiven.
Travis Parker doesn’t like liars. When he was younger, lies burned him in a bad way. It only took one summer with Charlotte’s innocence to know that she was it for him. When he thought he finally had something to look forward to, one misguided lie shattered everything he believed. Now, Char’s back, but she’s not the same girl he once knew.

Excellent story!!
I read Anna Brooks a while back and kept meaning to come back to her and read some more because I really enjoyed what I read, but I never made it back and I definitely regret taking so long because I have a ton to get caught up on. This first story in the It’s Kind of Personal series was a sometimes difficult story to read because Charlotte goes through some things. This story though is about forgiveness. Forgiving those who were unable to tell others they were in pain. Forgiving yourself for not seeing it. Forgiving yourself for the lies you told (by omission maybe but still lies) and for the lies you tell yourself in order to keep moving forward in your life. Forgiving yourself when you are really not to blame and learning to trust that others will not leave. Travis and Charlotte don’t have an easy road ahead of them and we can only hope that they can forgive and allow others to love them.
Travis was a drunk & angry guy when he first meets Charlotte, a young & innocent teen who has her whole life ahead of her. In his young life he already dealt with death & pain & is angry at the world & himself. They both forge a friendship that turns into more, but when an unspoken truth comes to light Travis pushes Charlotte away & out of his life. Things begin spiraling down for Charlotte from that point on. Years later she is no longer seeing the world with innocent & hopeful eyes. When Travis sees her again, a different girl than he once knew, he knows he can’t leave her again. Will the darkness continue to consume Charlotte or will she be able to trust Travis to help her?
Charlotte made a lot of decisions that ended up badly for her. Instead of turning to her other family for help she let her pride take over & didn’t let them know how bad things have been. Travis is still dealing with his past nightmares & is now also trying to help Charlotte with her issues. Overall a good read; looking forward to reading Brandon & Mary’s story.
Charlotte meets Travis at a party that her cousins dragged her to.
She then goes away and literally breaks Travis’ heart.
Charlotte and Travis go through so much while apart, and she returns home. They see each other again, but is it before Charlotte is ready to see him?
I did find the middle of the book kind of slowed down some, as Charlotte couldn’t let her ex go for some reason. But in the end, the HOT Travis saves the day!!!
They find their way back to each other but can they get over the ex, and move on?
It takes some time for Travis to break down her walls to get inside again.
I loved how they had that instant attraction right from the start!
Some of my fave quotes from the book
1. I go to the kitchen with the excuse of getting a couple of bottles of water. Really, I need a minute to tame my dick. – Travis has that instant attraction to Charlotte right from the beginning.
2. I cry for losing the only two men I’ll ever love. – One being her Father 🙁 and the other being Travis.
3. “No. You’re not alone anymore, sweetheart, and if you think I’m going away that easily, you really don’t know me.” – SWOON!!!
4. “Honesty, right?” “Uh, yeah.” “I wanted to cut a bitch.” – SO FUNNY! I loved that I could laugh throughout this book too.
5. You have to trust that I love you enough to stay. But know that if you do run, I’ll find you. I’ll always find you.” I gasp and set a hand on my pounding heart. “You love me?” – Travis telling Charlotte she can’t run away from him anymore. He’s done with her running.
TravisCharlotte! Great Story, Great Audible Listen
Make Me Forget
It’s Kind of Personal, Book 1
By: Anna Brooks
Narrated by: Nelson Hobbs, Neva Navarre
This book just blew me away, it is a great, well written, well told story. The storylines are realistic and interesting, they not only grab your mind but they grab your heart as well. You can not help but feel for these characters. Travis is has a broken heart, grieves for a life that could have been. He meets Charlotte when he is at his lowest and she manages to get in his heart. Life separates them, Charlotte moves back to finish school and Travis starts to put his life back on track with thoughts of Charlotte in his future. But her life had not be easy and it has left her broken. Circumstances bring the two back together and Travis knows he can not let her go. I loved the chemistry between them, also loved the patience Travis had with Charlotte as she worked out her demons. Anna Brooks takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, there are heart wrenching moments as well as heartfelt one. There is plenty of drama, some angst, twists and great romance. Thanks for this great story!
I listened to the Audible edition, Nelson Hobbs and Neva Navarre are wonderful narrators and voice performers. They bring the characters to life, give them their voices and personality as well as a whole lot of heart and emotion. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for this great listen
