This was a very fun book to read, a series of short stories direct from Ms. Reynolds, with interesting experiences she had throughout her life. I sort of vaguely knew a bit of her history, and this really gave lots of details that provide an amazing insight into “old time” Hollywood. It’s incredible how so many big names stars were in orbit at the same time, and this book covers a wild span of memories. Love it.
Nothing earth shattering here. Basic breezy life memories from Debbie. Easy read.
Loved it!
Debbie told her story in a way that will keep you enthralled and entertained. A truly bright light went out when we lost her.
Interesting bio with alot of talk about her contemporary Hollywood stars.
What a wonderful actor she was great book
a whole lot of name dropping
Even though Debbie is no longer with us. The book brought to light what Hollywood was like as she worked to have a career. I loved everything about it.
Despite a tendency to write too much about inconsequential things (like location of programs/who was there/what she was wearing, etc.) the book is an easy read,, but, does not really have much depth. Still and yet, you gotta love this lady! She was quite an entertainer, even though she does not have the writing skills of her daughter, Carrie Fisher. This book, written toward the end of her life, seems fluffy/superfluous. Sorry, Debbie. I love ya, but this was disappointing.
I got a kick out of Debbie Reynolds.
Not the best written memoir but easy to read and interesting. “Tammy” was quite a character. Have read most of Carrie Fisher’s books, all of which I’ve found really good reads; nice to read one of her mother’s.
Nice how actors treated each other to give them a step.
I didn’t like it much. She blew the favorable image I had of her.
Debbie Reynolds dishes on the people she knew and the events that made her many years in Hollywood so memorable. She reveals the true nature of certain personalities, and gives deserved praise to stars who were generous and giving when away from the spotlight. Debbie herself turns out to be a warm, funny, and complex person, who says what she thinks–no matter what.
A great life story of a funny woman
If you love Debbie, it’s a must red.
This book seemed to me to be mostly name-dropping of Hollywood film people from a former era, who went to what party
I was disappointed.
You get a view of Debbie that goes beyond the movie magazines.
I love memoirs, and this one proved to be entertaining and enjoyable, with just enough gossip to keep one reading
There is a new audiobook provider out. Bookbub has launched Chirp. The app is free as is membership. I’m addicted to audiobooks and I am delighted at the variety, price and ease of using this new app.
My first purchase from Chirp was Debbie Reynolds Make ‘Em Laugh. As a long-time fan and with her recent passing, I enjoyed hearing about Debbie’s life. Debbie’s autobiography is like her, quirky and fun and full of the unexpected.
When you see Debbie Reynolds on the big screen or even in her Vegas shows, you have no idea that her life isn’t perfect. She jokes about the mistakes she’s made, especially the men in her life, but she is candid about what has been wonderful in her life, her family, especially her children and granddaughter. It’s difficult to imagine that she didn’t have it all, or even if she did briefly, it was not to last.
Hearing her stories told in her own words, the narrator, Judith Ivey, sounding so much like her, made me feel as if she wasn’t lost but just taking a little break. This biography was cowritten by Debbie with the Dorian Hannaway and is a delight for fans and those who just love a good laugh.
