Gita Reddy – Make a Wish – Reviewed 8/9/16
Wishes can’t come true, CAN THEY?
The fairy grants Niki a wish. But Niki doesn’t know what she wants. Gita opens her fairy tale with an introduction to Niki: ‘Niki believed fairies were real and Fairyland was a real place… That night Niki asked her grandmother, “Are fairies, made-up people?” “Fairies are not people, and certainly not made-up people. One needs imagination and vision to believe in them, which very few people possess.” “Are they imaginary?” “I never said that. Fairies are real but you need the imagination to believe in them. Fairies have always been around and that is how we have fairytales.”
Niki grows and later she follows her belief: Niki made an earnest wish. “Dear fairies near and far, please visit me on my special day of the year.”
The joy of this little story is the manner in which Niki goes about using her wish with the fairy – to make things better for people and friends rather than asking for a tangible object.
Tender, thoughtful and insightful, Gita once again succeeds in writing a book for children that would well be read – and taken to heart – by adults! Grady Harp, March 16
What did I like? This author writes children’s books that are for the child in all of us. I have read almost everything that she has written and I can tell you that I have loved each and every one of them. When she writes she does it in a way that the child (young and old) becomes involved in the story, becomes a part that learns a valuable lesson as they read. I love to watch my children and grandchildren read these and you can watch the light that turns on as they realize the lesson that is included in the storyline. We don’t have enough books on the market that does this for our children today and I for one am so glad that this author is around. I totally agree with Ms, Harp this book is very tender, thoughtful and very insightful.
What are you going to like? Reading a wonderful fairy tale that will grip your child and take them on a journey through a very imaginative story, one that will leave your child understanding the value of a friend and being selfless, putting your friends needs first before your own. Detailed and fully developed storyline with lots of action, gripping with mystery and great characters. Lots of interesting thoughtful interplay between the characters that will grip your child wondering what will be decided as they wish. Showing your child how it should be between friends while working on this decision. There are lots of learning curves in this story for all of us to remember.
@ddeegott “I received this for being an advanced reader for the author but I also own my copy. Besides getting all the good books in advance of hitting the market and have the opportunity to share my remarks, I love being part of the team that works with authors as they share each new book that they pen”.
