Boy, do I love reading the Hawthorne Billionaire series! The Hawthorne men are good at making money, but not so much at finding wives. So, Victoria (Mama Hawthorne) is determined to take care of that – by finding mail order brides for them.
In Mail Order Valentine, you will become acquainted with Asher and August, identical twins with vastly different personalities. But who will end up with the delightful Imogen, a bride prospect who needs to flea Australia to escape an abusive boyfriend? Bodyguards, paparazzi, new wardrobes, new friends, expensive trips all play a part in this wonderful, funny, and absolutely delightful book.
I was given this book by the author. This review is strictly voluntary and the thoughts are my own.
I loved this book. But, I also love the whole Hawthorne Billionaire Series thus far. I love the mother Victoria because I feel like she is the all knowing mother type that knows just what her sons need. I love the characters that you meet through this book. I like how the author had set up the book so the pieces would all finally click into place. I am glad that Imogen was able to escape the creep that was her boyfriend. I would highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Loved the story, couldn’t put the book down
A story that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go until the very end. Loved this story between August and Imogen. These two have a real connection. Add a troublesome twin and a meddling mother and you have all that you need to keep you reading. Gunner is an absolute sweetheart and needs his own story too!!
There were several small details that drove me crazy. Thankfully, the story itself, the satisfying ending, and the characters in particular saved it from being a flop.
The setting was well done, drawing us into each scene with just enough sensory details to ignite the imagination but not so many to be boring.
The small things that drove me crazy were:
1. the slang – a few words that were a bit offensive, like “piss” and taking the Lord’s name in vain – not bad but not something I expect in a clean romance;
2. the repeating of a bit of the previous scene – it switches from the hero’s to the heroine’s POV, and the beginning of almost every scene in the beginning half would repeat the end of the last scene but from the other’s perspective. It’s interesting for character development, but I felt it slowed the pace down and didn’t give us any new plot. I think it could have shortened the book into a little easier length to binge.
3. The Australian slang – some of it was cool and just helped to set the mood, but then it started to get a little over-the-top where I didn’t understand the entire sentence. I didn’t know there was an Australian glossary in the back of the ebook until I’d finished the entire thing. And what was with only starting the Australian phrases for Imogen after the first chapter when we were introduced to her right off the bat?
4. Several typos, such as a wrong word (“a” for “I”) or missing quotation marks, or italics in the wrong places.
Favorite quotes:
“We all love her like a grandmother. She pointed to the south wing with a wink. She, of course, knew the difference between myself and Asher. Always had, even when Mom couldn’t.” (chapter 4, p. 29)
“’What are you two doing? Those are some cat-ate-the-canary smiles,’ Gunner said. ‘What did I miss?’” (chapter 38, p. 175)
Gunner and Asher had obviously conspired together while I was walking around because when I came around the corner, they were standing back to back in the same exact outfits. ‘Very funny you two, and just for that, we’re buying both of those outfits’…” (chapter 53, p. 243)
“How could someone physically hurt someone like her? I realized I wasn’t much better because I was going to hurt her too.” (chapter 56, p. 254)
“’Question I have right now is: Which one of you is getting a bigger surprise?’” (chapter 61, p. 280)
I really liked Imogene and August’s story They meet by chance in a Hospital elevator not knowing that soon both of their lives will change for the better once Fate plays a hand. Fun storyline with the Twins Asher and August switching places, The Hawthorne family are rich but good people, with the Matriarch wanting what’s best for the boys, esp one who seems to get In Trouble a lot, mail order bride seems to be the solution , but only if the Twins will abide by the rules.
I seldom read contemporary romances. I read and write historical romances, however, I found Farrah Lee’s Mail Order Valentine an absolute delight. The main characters were totally likable, and the secondary characters added to the story. Other than the bad guy at the beginning of the book, all the characters were enjoyable. It was fun experiencing how the rich and famous live and love. Seeing inside the jet with its bedrooms and showers was a treat. The romance moved along at a good pace, and the ending was most satisfying. This is a sweet romance, and I can recommend it to those looking for a happily ever after romance.
This was such a fun read. Imogene needs to escape from her abusive boyfriend. Victoria (Asher and August’s mother) offers Imogene money to protect her from her ex and to get Asher married off and turn the bad tabloids into a much better image for the family. August ends up switching places with his brother Asher (who needs needs to settle down) to protect the family from all the bad scandals Asher has caused. What happens when the truth comes out about the switch? How does Imogene react and feel about it? You’ll have to read this book to find out. You’ll even get a kick out of Gunner the bodyguard. I enjoyed the story very much.
Wonderful twin switch story, love hits the wrong twin n is beautifully written as Imogen trys to excape abuse n the twins try n save the billion $ family name.
Well Farrah Lee you have me hooked! Mail Order Valentine is my second book from Farrah Lee and I loved it just as much as the first.
August and Ash Hawthorne are the twin heirs to the Hawthorne Hotel Empire. While one wants to settle down the other needs to settle down. Once again with the interference of the Hawthorne women Ash is signed up for a mail order bride. Imogen is escaping an abuse relationship and signs up to be a mail order bride. Poppy befriends her and helps her.
I just loved August and Imogen as a couple. I feel like she ended up with the twin she was meant to all along. Chance encounters and fate brought them together.
I love the plot, and the characters in Mail Order Valentine. Lee delivers a well written, captivating book that had me turn the pages. MOV is a sweet, fun read that left me feeling happy. Lee gave us a flawless, fantastic read. The Hawthorne Billionaire Series has quickly become a must read for me. I can’t wait to see what Lee gives us next.
Aussie Imogen was escaping from an abusive controlling boyfriend when Poppy took her under wing and helped her get away and encouraged her to accept a marriage of convenience to playboy Asher to help his image. Asher struck me as immature and inconsiderate showing up for their first meeting drunk, but his identical twin brother August was a gentleman and romantic who can’t help falling for Imogen. The only problem is she thinks August is Asher. There were a lot of references to Pretty Woman in this book. The bodyguard Gunner “Bond” was great and very protective of his charge Imogen “Solitaire”. I hope he finds his own love at some point. I loved the glossary at the end that explained what the slang meant. This a clean funny arranged marriage romance.
I thought this was a really good book. Easy to read , romantic and humorous. It held my interest from beginning to end . She is a new favorite author of mine
Mail Order Valentine By Farrah Lee
I must say this was my favorite so far in this wonderfully well written series. This is the second book but technically the third if you count the prequel which is a full book. All of them will steal your heart. The characters, storyline and plot twist will have you turning the page till the end. Each book follows a mail order bride and the the why and how she ended up making that choice and of course the family she will be promised to. All the books are sweets, funny, silly at times and a little drama thrown in with just enough of innocent romance.
This gem of a book follows Imogen who is at the hospital again after her abusive boyfriend beat her again. She is trying to find a way to escape the hospital without him catching her when she runs into a room that will change the course of her life forever. There she meets someone offering her an escape to safety and a new life.
August and Asher are twin brothers who are architects and partners and run that part of their family empire yet one is hard working and the other is a playboy who only wants to play and work as little as possible. When one gets into trouble and threatens their entire family future their mother gives him an ultimatum and has the other brother help execute the plan. What could possibly go wrong? I loved the secondary characters in this story especially Gunner and he so deserves his own book.
