Clean, wholesome and a secret baby – another great book by Kathleen Lawless!
Kathleen Lawless writes lovely, sweet western historical romance you’ll enjoy.
The author has penned a story of a couple whose relationship was fraught with misunderstandings, betrayal, a baby and a mail order bride ad. This is Olivia and Robert’s story and the character development is very good. Their first chance at happiness fell by the wayside and Olivia, finding herself expecting a baby, married someone else but then is then widowed. She sees Robert’s ad for a mail order bride and responds. Will Olivia and Robert be able to reach a HEA. Be sure to read this book to find out. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Such a powerful tale.
This was a heartwarming and such a powerful tale it is hard to imagine it is such a quick read. The characters were outstanding. Both Robert and Olivia had been lied to and manipulated in such a way that even when happiness was right there for them to grab it was so hard for them to take the chance. I loved this book and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Second chance. Secret Baby. What’s not to love about this book? Kathleen Lawless does it again with a well-written mail order bride story that definitely provided the HEA I was looking for. Bravo!
Olivia’s heart was broken when told her beloved Robert was dead. With a baby on the way she marries his best friend, only to be widowed less than two years later. She finds an ad for a mail-order bride in her dead husband’s pocket – an ad placed by none other than Robert! How could it be? Robert was told Olivia never wanted to see him again and finally determined to move on and build a new life without her. When Olivia steps off the train as his mail-order bride all the pain of his loss comes flooding back. Seeing her with ‘another man’s child’ just makes it worse.
I was so invested in the hero and heroine finding the truth and claiming the future that was stolen from them. The character development and plot were excellent.
fun read
This was a story that grabbed my attention right from the start and had my interest right till the end. Olivia thinks Robert has died and later marries his best friend, Harry. Then Harry dies and Olivia finds an ad for a mail order bride in his pocket that was placed by Robert. How can that be? Olivia goes off to find out the truth. They eventually come face to face and each of them needs to confront the misunderstandings and betrayals. This was an interesting and well-written book and the storyline flowed smoothly. The characters were interesting and well-developed and I became invested in their HEA. If you like mail order bride stories, be sure to give this one a try!

Novel in a Novella
I was a huge fan of this author’s Brides for Seven Brothers series; I read every one. I’ll admit that I was a little sad to see the series go, but I have been interested to read her other historical Western romances. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in this book. What it feels like to me is a novel with a story that’s been shoehorned into a very short novella. As such, the slow build of the romance and even clarity at times has been sacrificed. The hero and heroine have a deep and complex backstory, and while I never like an information dump in any book, the author still has to give enough information at the right times for everything to make sense. That didn’t happen here. I felt confused by their backstory and what was happening in the present right away, and I didn’t feel it got resolved quickly enough. Even when I finished the story, I didn’t understand the hero’s vehement reaction to the heroine at the beginning of the story. The reasons given didn’t seem to be enough to warrant his massive reaction. When they decided to take their marriage physical, it seemed so abrupt after what both had been thinking not that much prior. The author actually created great characters. But I just think they needed more time to truly develop their relationship in a way that is not confusing and is more satisfying to the reader.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Book sixteen in the Widows, Brides and Secret Babies series a well written story with a very good storyline. Olivia and Robert will have a lot to overcome before they get their happy ending. Robert left a year and a half ago leaving Olivia pregnant. When she was told he was dead she married Harry, she is now a widow and has seen Robert’s ad for a mail order bride she wants answers. There is lies, misunderstanding, and a second chance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a very sweet and clean MOB story. I enjoyed Robert and Olivia’s story very much. The storyline was wonderful. I just wish it had an epilogue. If you love clean MOB stories, you will enjoy this one.

Outside forces conspired to keep Olivia and Robert apart, but she is determined to confront him for his lies while saving her daughter Chloe and herself from threatening men. I was exasperated by Robert at times for his attitude and the way he was with Chloe. It was nice to catch up with the Mason brothers and their families from the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers series.
