She intrigues him. Gabe Talbot has never met a woman like Josie. She’s beautiful but dresses like a man. She’s elegant but cusses like a sailor. And even though he watched his brother nearly die from heartache when he lost his wife, Gabe is breaking every rule he’s ever had about women. He’s falling in love. But Josie has other ideas. She’s never known a man who didn’t abandon his family, her own … family, her own father included. She’s independent. Capable. She doesn’t need to depend on anyone. And she doesn’t want a man who’s going to give her another broken heart. When four lonely orphans enter the picture, Josie might finally accept his marriage proposal, but it’s her mixed-up, rebellious heart he’s determined to claim.

A love story not to be missed. Josie Long is a lot different from the typical woman. She takes care of herself and dresses, hunts and fishes like a man. Josie and her mother were part of the mail order brides that had been brought to Seattle to live. Gabe Talbot has never met a woman like Josie but he can’t help but be intrigued. They have a strong attraction to each other, but Josie has know a lot of heartache. It seems like every man she has known has abandoned their family, her father included and she is reluctant to settle down. Gabe has watched his brother grieve over his lost wife and he wants to never go through that himself. But when he and Josie find four abandoned orphans, things begin to change. Can they pull together and find happiness? I really enjoyed this story and cheered for these two people who needed each other even though they did not know it themselves. Another wonderful story by Cynthia Woolf.
Loved this story!
I enjoyed the story and the characters in this book.
Very poorly edited. Made it difficult to read. Even had to back trauma few times because it was confusing. I would not recommend.
This Book was well written. It was an easy quick read with some steam. It was somewhat predictable but didn’t detract from the story.
Keptmy interest from beginning to end. Characters kept the book moving.
I really enjoyed the book and stayed up late to finish it.
I love all the mail order bride books this author writes and this one is no exception.
Once again I am in awe of Cynthia Woolf’s uncanny ability to create memorable children characters that delight the mind and warm the heart! Also, the lengths that Gabe and Josie are willing to take for the safety of these abandoned children, make for one thrilling and unforgettable story.
The latest heartwarming addition from the well renowned author Cynthia Woolf, “Mail Order Mix Up”, is the 3rd edition to the successful”Brides of Seattle” series. Showcased in a historical setting, the plot is filled with generosity, inspiration, heartbreak, and love, alongside a cast of wonderful and enchanting characters. It’s in this installment that our latest Talbot brother finds love in the most unlikely of scenarios, with his heart captivated by a local from Seattle. This is a truly beautiful story, with Gabe and Josie giving up everything to help keep four destitute orphans stay together, while navigating their feelings as husband and wife after their very brief courting. But, there is something in the past which continues to haunt Gabe, that he must face in order fully accept new love. A truly gripping plot that will have you hooked to the very last page.
“Mail Order Mix-Up” stands out as a 5-star read for many reasons, including:
* The passion that Cynthia Woolf writes with is again easily found in this addition to the series. Her attention to detail of all the historical customs and settings of the time periods makes it feel like stepping back in time. Descriptive details are given from everything from methods of travelling, trade at the time, how brides where sought in rural towns, etiquette at the time to be practiced, courtship, marriage, what was fashionably worn, and so much more, made the historical setting a huge success in “Brides of Seattle” series.
** Characters are depicted realistically true, putting their heart on their sleeves in the hope of love, showing their warts and all. It made the characters of Gabe and Josie easier to relate to, and invoke a hope in their shared outcome for happiness. Some of the most endearing characteristics they both showed was their unconditional kindness and generosity, something that really brought warmth and inspiration to the story. Josie and Gabe, after finding the culprit for the loss of their lunch on their first date, instantly were willing to change their lives to help the four orphans who had been left to fend for themselves for a long time. Hungry, in rags and dirty, they took in the children to adopt as their own, getting married to give them a place to call home altogether. A story that will bring tears of joy to your eyes and warm your heart.
* A favourite of the brides, Josie is anything but the typical Seattle woman at the time Gabe first meets her. Josie has had a tough life, hunting animals to sell to help her mother and her survive, taking on the more traditional “male” roles. Nothing like the mail order brides in the earlier additions to the series, Josie wore pants, making it easier to hunt, and didn’t follow many of the roles and social etiquette that were followed by women at the time. Regardless, this strong minded local easily captured Gabe’s heart, and wanted her to still be herself when they married. However, even though Josie had a tough exterior, she was still like the mail order brides, in that she wished for herself to find true love, and was willing to stick to her beliefs, no matter what the cost (no spoilers). With Gabe fighting the ghosts of his past, the suspense builds. Will they be able to have their happily ever after that they deserve?
I recommend “Mail Order Mix-Up – Brides of Seattle #3” to all readers who enjoy a compassionate and inspirational romance in a historical setting. I look forward to reading the next in the “Brides Of Seattle” series, eager to see how the brides go up against the many suitors, and who captures the attention of the last Talbot brother. Will his heart be captivated by one of the mail order brides, alike books #1 and #2, or will a local steal his heart, alike book #3, or will it be someone from an entirely different region altogether. I know though that whatever Cynthia Woolf has install for the next book, it is sure to be as enchanting and heartwarming as the this.
I reviewed this book voluntarily from an advanced copy. Mail Order Mix-Up
Book 3 in the Brides of Seattle series, together with the Talbot Brothers, does not disappoint. When the Talbots discover Josie and her mother and their living conditions, they right away move them into one of the houses they had built. Gabe is taken with Josie, but has made a vow never to give his heart again. He is upfront with Josie, telling her that he will court her and marry her, but that he is incapable of love. When they discover a small family of abandoned children, Josie realises that the only way in which the courts will allow them to adopt the children, is if she agrees too marry Gabe, even if she is not his first choice. However, at the first opportunity Gabe abandons Josie, leaving her broken hearted. The story is fast paced with a feisty heroine who can out-shoot and out-cuss any man, and a hero who is wearing blinkers. One would have liked to box Gabe’s ears, but fortunately he comes to his senses on his own, almost too late. The story is well written with plenty of action and activity. I received a copy of this book for free as a gift, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Absolutely love this book. Loved the series.
This was a heartwarming tale and I absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend it.
