Mail Order Bride in the Wild West has to quickly learn farm skills and parenting techniques
Cara, disgraced in her small home town, is a young woman without a job because her mother was killed and her father hung for the murder. She is all alone, so sad and no one will hire here. She is inspired by a father’s request for a wife, as he has a large farm and 3 motherless children and she needs to get away. They correspond and she takes the train miles away. Accosted by a man on the train and no one to help her, she jumps from the train and runs. When James discovers that she is not on the train and that some woman had jumped from the train, he takes his horse and follows the track tracks. Having once been a tracker he soon discovers the spot where he finds multiple footsteps, where the train had been stopped and some local searching was done. He knows that she must have left the train not too far away. When he finds her she is not doing do well and has a wound on her leg that he eventually sews up. As she recovers she finds herself with 3 children that don’t want her, chores she’s expected to do like butchering a hog. With patience and kindness she continues to struggle but also begins developing some feelings for her husband. He sleeps in the barn until they are married by a fake traveling minister. Then the sheriff shows up with a warrant for her arrest. I got so involved in the story that I finished it in one setting.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were so lovable and pulled me into the story. I wanted James and Cara to have a real marriage and become a family. This story had some twist and turns keeping the readers interest until the very end. An enjoyable read!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This is a mail order bride story full of lots of action and great character development and a HEA. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It is a real page turner and you will not be able to put it down until finished.
I enjoyed this story and the fact that it was different from others in its genre. The plot had some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I liked the main characters and was rooting for their relationship to be more than just a business arrangement. The three children of the widower being of different ages and personalities added an additional depth to the story. It was a fairly quick read and entertaining. I love that it’s available on KU.
A new book by Jenna Brandt places a book at the top of my to be read list. She is a master at developing interesting story lines and characters. Any marriage that starts with 3 children has a few challenges from the beginning, add in that Cara and James were strangers and you have more challenges. This book was fun to read and I like that all challenges are solved. I enjoyed the book.
I really did enjoy this touching story. It has some very endearing characters as well as one really evil one.
There are some very touching scenes which are cleverly written in and these keep one wanting to know what will happen next as well as a few parts where I was wondering if the two main characters would ever get married with all that was happening in their lives, but these helped make this book even more interesting.
It was with much relief (and a brief trickle of happy-tears) that I read of the long awaited marriage. Oh, I’m a sucker for happy ever afters and this story has it for sure!
Loved the strengths and weaknesses in this family, the storyline, the emotions that one cannot help but feel – this was very cleverly put together and I am hoping that Jenna Brandt will come up with a few more like this story for us to read. This one is definitely one of Jenna’s best and I can definitely recommend it.
I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of the ebook and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.
