Magnus Chase, a once-homeless teen, is a resident of the Hotel Valhalla and one of Odin’s chosen warriors. As the son of Frey, the god of summer, fertility, and health, Magnus isn’t naturally inclined to fighting. But he has strong and steadfast friends, including Hearthstone the elf, Blitzen the dwarf, and Samirah the Valkyrie, and together they have achieved brave deeds, such as defeating … Fenris Wolf and battling giants for Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Now Magnus faces his most dangerous trial yet. His cousin, Annabeth, recruits her boyfriend, Percy Jackson, to give Magnus some pointers, but will his training be enough? Loki is free from his chains. He’s readying Naglfar, the Ship of the Dead, complete with a host of giants and zombies, to sail against the Asgardian gods and begin the final battle of Ragnarok. It’s up to Magnus and his friends to stop him, but to do so they will have to sail across the oceans of Midgard, Jotunheim, and Niflheim in a desperate race to reach Naglfar before it’s ready to sail. Along the way, they will face angry sea gods, hostile giants, and an evil fire-breathing dragon. Magnus’s biggest challenge will be facing his own inner demons. Does he have what it takes to outwit the wily trickster god?

Rick Riordan does it again in this series. This time he meshes the modern world with Norse mythology which is something I never studied in school. On top of that Magnus Chase is an unusual and almost involuntary hero who just cracks me up. Percy Jackson also shows up in this book. Great fun and easy read. Got lost in this world for a time. Loved it!!
Wow.
I loved this series. So. Very. Much.
I am a Percy fan; I always will be, simply because that was my introduction to mythology and learning more than just the basics about the Greek gods. I really knew very little and it was cool to learn while reading a fun series. That said….
I absolutely love and adore Magnus Chase. L O V E him. You can tell that Rick Riordan’s writing has really improved and that he gets into the story so much more than is there in Percy Jackson. Magnus is a really good, well-researched, fabulous story. I was truly sorry when this book ended [knowing there are no more books coming in this series; a thing that totally sucks btw].
What I knew about Norse mythology was what I learned from the Thor movies from Marvel. Which was mostly nothing. LOL So I was going into this one with even less knowledge than with PJ. I think that made the books more fun for me; I was learning right along with Magnus, who was, most of the time as clueless as I was. 🙂
This book centers on Magnus and his group of friends trying to find Loki to stop Ragnarok. SO. MUCH. STUFF. happens that you cannot even begin to review it because then you would be writing your OWN book. Let’s just say that it was a really good book and I now have book hangover. 🙂
A side note – we listened to these on Audiobooks. Book 1 and 2 have horrible narrators. H I D E O U S. It was only the story that kept us going because it wasn’t the narration. Blech. Book 3 was fantastic. The narrator is just perfect and I loved this book even more because of it. I wish he could go back and re-do the first two. THAT would be the best book gift an author could give his fans.
Rick Riordan has always been on of my favorite authors, so I wasn’t surprised when I read this book that it was absolutely amazing and it had be squirming in my seat. The characters were great, and Rick has us opening oir eyes to accept the times with the characters he has.
There really wasn’t anything spectacular about this conclusion to the Magnus Chase trilogy. As a whole, I wasn’t wowed by writing. The idea was good but the middle school humor and irreverent mockery of the Norse gods and mythology were a bit much in my opinion. Riordan obviously did a lot of research on the subject which I applaud but the execution was a miss. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t particularly like it either. As I think I stated on my reviews of the previous two books in the series, if I didn’t always feel compelled to finish a series I wouldn’t have kept reading it.
If you like mythology and middle school-type humor you’ll probably like this series. As always, happy reading!
i love the romance between alex and magnus, and everything the charaters go through
A true rollercoaster of emotions and action. I especially enjoyed the scene in York.
The romance between Alex and Magnus is so sweet and adorable.
And the end…! Perfect.
This trilogy is well worth the read. Recommended for fans of Norse mythology, lasting friendships and diversity in all its forms.
Great way to intertwine all the different stories!
I like that the faught off gaintits.
I love how Rick Riodan is able to build his characters in modern society but still is able to put fantasy and myth into his writings. His work gives a different perspective on different myths and how they would react to modern society.
I love this book because it is really enjoyable. If you love fantasy, this is the book for you.
Such a fun book to read!
Best of the series.
How to win a Flyting when you go against the God of Lies. Point out what a Sorry excuse he is for being a loner. Final book of the series.
Awesomeness
It’s an amazing addition to the series.
THIS AUTHOR IS AMAZING! He is a funny writer and his stories are easy to follow along with. They also never end, because more series keep coming out! I LOVE IT!
I just love Rick Riordan books
This book is amazing. Pretty sad tho because its supposed to be the last one.
