A worthy pupil . . . A dangerous questTo the forest on the shore of the Kingdom of the Isles, the orphan Pug came to study with the master magician Kulgan. But though his courage won him a place at court and the heart of a lovely Princess, he was ill at ease with the normal ways of wizardry. Yet Pug’s strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. For dark beings from … worlds. For dark beings from another world had opened a rift in the fabric of spacetime to being again the age-old battle between the forces of Order and Chaos.

Great intro book to a great series. I own every book written by this wonderful auther
Fantasy worlds not believable enough and some of the characters too inconsistent.
This is one of the few books I’ve read multiple times as a teen and as an adult and enjoyed it each time.
Really liked the Pug Character
Beginning of an absolutely fantastic series!
Read back years ago when initially published – great series & great characters. Very imaginative world.
Just bought the first 6 books in the series to reread at the beach this summer on my kindle. A great deal for $20.00! Fantastic storyteller and character development is great.
I read this several years ago, and just “had to read” the next 8 or so of the series. I just bought this to read again, and am so looking forward to revisiting Pug and his world.
A good read
If you haven’t heard about Feist’s Riftwar Saga, it’s time to rectify your mistake. I would compare Robert Jordan or Brandon Sanderson to Feist and if you like either of those two, you’ll like what you find in the RIftwar series.
I first read this book in High School. I have reread this book so many time since that the cover and first two pages are missing. I highly recommend this book for those who would like to try the high fantasy genre.
Possibly the fisr major fantasy novel I read after the Hobbit, think I was 11. Jut loved it and really pushed my into reading more adult type fantasy. I have read it three times since, the last when was over 40. Still one of the all round novels i have read
