It’s a great introduction to the rest of the series. It was action-packed and exciting and I cant wait to read the next book.
It’s a paranormal romance book and this one introduces vampires among other things.

Magical Miri by Debra Kristi is such an amazing story that I have read. This is book number one in this amazing start to a brand new series that I have fallen in love with the charaters and the story line. I can not wait to read more from this series and I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romances.

Easy to fall into and get engulfed in Miri. Love this book! Excited to see how the story plays out in the rest of the series from the different views… EEE!
Our heroine has heard all her life that there is magic in the family, but she never believed it. That is going to change real quickly.
This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.
This is an urban fantasy story with a young adult bent to it. The story is well written and easy to read with a setting that is both familiar and not at the same time. I love the details that are blended in to contrast the normal with the paranormal. The characters are also well done and do an excellent job of bringing the story to life. Add in a healthy dose of action and mystery and you get a very engaging story. Overall, I enjoyed the introduction to a new world and look forward to seeing where it leads.
Highly recommended.

This was a slow moving book for me. Miri was in the dark for the majority of the book about her family history and abilities. It seemed a bit repetitive with her following her brother. The ending picked up speed but by then I really wasn’t that invested.
Miri does not know she is magical until after her mother moves her, her sister Bella, and her brother Mike out of the home of her grandmother, the only home she and Bella have known since they were very young. Strange things start happening, Mira finds a maybe-boyfriend; Mike starts going to magic class to learn how to control his magic, and Bella starts moving the spices around the kitchen without touching them. This book has a lot of action, contains run-ins with vampires, and a fire at their new home that was arson. I can not wait for the next book. Highly recommended.
Miri is a typical sophomore in high school who lives with her family in grammas house. Then out of the blue at the beginning of the story her mom decides its time to move in with boyfriend and they all become a true family. Miri thinks what and thus starts a journey of secrets and uncovered truths about herself, her family, and her history. Starting the story you know that Miri is going to end up discovering she is a witch, but it is the rest that was interesting to discover. The story had good characters, interesting plot, shady characters, danger, and teenager angst too. The suspense, danger and mystery was fun too. I enjoyed the story.
I really enjoyed this first book in the series. I really enjoy books with great characters and if they are the supernatural realm its even better. The story is well developed and has very descriptive writing. The characters go through life changing situations and moves at a quick pace. It’s a fun adventure and definitely worth the read!!
A NEW ORLEANS MAGICAL HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Miri is a Roussard witch and her mother and grandmother are at odds about her family. Miri’s mom moves them out of their grandmother’s house to live with her boyfriend. Things begin to change and Miri finds out that there is magic in her family. Her mother has kept it hidden from them.
This book is the beginning of the Gifted Girls series and sets the stage for the family’s history and the future events. I loved the interaction of the characters and the way everyone tried to keep things hidden
Her nan was about to tell her something about her family but her mother took her to live somewhere else. They are not welcomed and now she is having nightmares and sees ghost. What is her mother hiding? What will happen? Will she finally find out all the family secrets? see how she gets on

Good fun book with interesting and believable characters with depth not just cardboard cutouts. Descriptions of people, places, and things are clear enough that you can paint a vivid picture in your mind. Thoroughly enjoyed and had trouble stopping to sleep. 🙂
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from Booksprout for giving my two cents. We meet Miri, her sister Belle and brother Mike who live with their mom and eccentric grandmother. One evening their mom comes home from work to say they are moving in with her boyfriend Caleb much to their dismay. Miri’s mom says they need a father figure and their father hasn’t been in thr picture since Belle was a baby. Mike doesn’t like Caleb and Miri is unsure. But strange things start to happen to her once they move out of grandmas house….she must be hallucinating…ghosts, vampires, witches….maybe grandma isn’t all crazy after all. Nightmares has plagued Miri since they moved out and Mike is disappearing all the time. The only highlight is Philip, a boy at school who had taken an interest in Miri. He helps her out of some precarious situations that she doesn’t even believe. There is a mystery afoot and Miri plans to get to the bottom of it. But first she needs to find what Mike is up to and then needs to talk to grandma. Drama, lies, and thr past all come crashing down on Miri in this read.
The story and characters frustrated me. No desire to read future books in this series.
Awakening!
Miri, Belle, Michael are happily living with their Mom at Grandma’s house until the fateful day when their Mom announces they are moving in with her boyfriend, Caleb. There has always been conflict between Mom and Grandma but this time their Mom is determined to set up housekeeping with Caleb regardless of the dangers of living near the French Quarter will create according to Grandma. Grandma has always insisted they are from a bloodline of powerful witches. Their Mom maintains magic does not exist and her Grandma is spinning tales but odd things begin happening once they move in with Caleb and then there is the wanna-be-vampire girl that keeps following Miri. She wishes they were back at Grandma’s house.
I started this series with book three and I am so happy to finally see where everything started. The characters are well rounded and there are some good drama and mystery that revolves around the family plus a hint of even more paranormal happenings and magic to come.
Magic can be subtle, and magic can be powerful.
Danger comes when the magic is bound and you have no idea you actually possess it.
Miri can definitely talk about it now.
After her mom’s decision, Miri moves out of her grandma’s house to her mom’s boyfriend’s. But Caleb is definitely not a parental figure, neither for her nor for her sister Belle and her brother Mike. Moving to the Quarter triggers all sorts of odds, strange happenings, or troublesome situations, all with new school and separation from old friends. Only good thing seems to be meeting Philipp, but there’s no guarantee it’s enough to survive the move. Literally.
Very pleasant introduction to a new YA series with all sorts of magic and lots of mysteries to be solved. The book provides more of the family’s backstory in terms of the present, than actually explaining how the magic works and what all could be found in this magical society (although over time, enough is revealed to keep the reader engaged). I liked how the characters were gradually shaped, leading to a point where more questions than answers are provided, hooking me up for the next book in the series already. Hopefully I’ll squeeze it into my reading schedule soon :))
