A Paranormal Women’s Fiction novel with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!“Happily Ever After” wasn’t supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that’s exactly what my life becomes. Do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age … plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I’m ready to carve my own path.
Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I’ll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It’s just temporary, I tell myself. It’ll just be for a while.
That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could’ve imagined.
Thankfully forty isn’t too old to start an adventure, because that’s exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

Hilarious, incredible brilliant book! I was so excited about this new trend PWF genre created by 13 fabulous authors and every book I read I’m loving it more and more. This book isn’t an exception. Couldn’t put it down!
Kickass heroine in her forties, so no- nonsense, no drama just taking fresh start from the scratch diving into new life where magic awaits her. Getting to know her amazing crew of weirdos which I love and it’s so much fun to read about them! Can’t get enough of Austin!
Storyline is unique even for a paranormal world!
What are you waiting for?? Just pick up this book because you really need this in your life and will want more!
I am loving this new series! Another winner. If you love crazy characters, magical creatures, and lots of unpredictable action, this is the book for you.
Meet Jessie Jacinta, a recent divorcée trying to find her footing in her newly upended life. To avoid living with her parents while she starts fresh, she agrees to be the caretaker for Ivy House, a creepy mansion owned by her best friend’s aunt. It is a house she had visited with her friend and had loved as a child. The house comes with “Great Uncle Earl” the butler who insists on being called Mr. Tom, a seemingly ancient neighbor with remarkably good aim at throwing rocks who is “Keeper of The Key” named Niamh Murphy, a weird Gardner named Edgar who has a thing for mazes, and lots of shadows, mystery, and intrigue. The town is small, quaint, and run by an alpha male named Austin Steele, who seems to reluctantly hold the role of tan protector.
As Jessie reacquaint herself with Ivy House and settles into her role as caretaker, all sorts of oddities crop up that throw Jessie into the deep end of a magical world she now finds herself in. Can she find her footing before her new world swallows her whole and spits her out? You just have to read about the crazy antics Jessie navigates in her new life.
This book is great! K.F Breene is quickly becoming a favorite author. This paranormal women’s fiction is a wonderful way for me to read something fun that does not have a teenager as a protagonist. The books I have read by this author also has very little of the too very graphic sex scenes that I really do not care for. In fact this book had none of it. Hurrah, an excellent read not relying on sex to carry it! Yea, K.F.! Jess is a divorced 40 something facing the very real pull of aging.
She finds herself the caretaker of a large house that she visited and loved as a child. Well, there was a reason for that love. The house is magical. It and the small town are peopled by some strange beings, not readily apparent to Jess. However Jess is cautious but open-minded enough to give the idea of magic a chance of being true. Of course there is also some eye candy in the person of Austen Steele.
I do hope Ms Breene continues this series. It’s a hoot.
I loved this book! Get comfy, cause once you start reading, you’re not going to want to stop! I love female characters that are fun, strong, brave, protective and not afraid to fight against evil. But why are they usually so young? Jacinta is 40 yrs. old, going through a divorce, has a child in college and moving back in with her parents. She’s looking for adventure and a new job. Wow, does she find it! In her new job, she will live in a quirky house, go on the adventure of a lifetime, meet extraordinary friends, and face danger! I love Jacinta! She, smart, crafty, fun, brave, protective, and determined not to let her age or what others think about her stop her from doing what she wants! This book is fun, action-packed, with delightful characters, adventure, danger, mystery, a vampire, a werewolf, an alicorn, a gargoyle, magic, a quirky house, laugh-out-loud humor and twists and turns and more!
What I love is that you never know what you are going to get when KF is involved and it always tops the one before. Opinionated, foot in mouth no filter, no holds barred, divine sarcasm, lots of hilarity, outside the square and around the moon thinking and that is what we get in one magical package. I am never disappointed in a KF story and this one is just brilliant. I love that we finally get something for women in an older age bracket that get to have the adventure or misadventure, a HEA or not and I applaud KF for leading the way. I have not laughed so much in a long time. There is no need for me to share the book as KF’s writing leads the way all by itself. Grab a drink or three and settle in for the best read of your life. Here’s to middleage!!
Jessie is my new hero!!! She’s so kickass and confident in herself. This book has everything that a book should have for a middle aged character that doesn’t act middle age. After all, age is nothing when you feel confident in yourself and your abilities. I can’t wait to see where this story leads next and what baddies are brought about because of the Ivy House magic. This will definitely be a series that I will read again and again.
Absolutely the best Breene has put out to date. I love the characters, the world-building, the concept. Okay, let’s get real. I love the sarcasm, smart-assed heroine, hot guys, quirky side kicks and the I’m so DONE with all of this attitude. Yes!
Talk about a spectacular start to a new series. K.F. Breene knocked this book and genre out of the park! It’s a truly relatable, laugh-out-loud book with a paranormal twist. I fell in love with these characters and cannot wait for the next book!!!
I read this book from one of the #Fab13 authors as part of their Paranormal Women’s Fiction launch. (If you haven’t heard of it, do yourself a favor and check it out. They have a Facebook group and a website. They’re all amazing authors and these books have not been disappointed.)
Reading about a character so close to my own demographic in so many ways made my day. The storyline sucked me in and left me wanting the next book immediately.
The one word ‘Epic” says it all. This is not your usually feisty heroine story. This story is about a middle aged woman who is starting her life over… in a strange place. Throw in some snark, some otherworldly towns folk and a cantankerous old house and it is a laugh riot I couldn’t put down. The characters are imaginative and the story is engaging. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what the author does next.
A great start to a new series! Jessie is starting the new chapter in her life by becoming the caretaker to a beautiful old house she still has fond memories of from her childhood. She meets quite an eclectic set of characters, and she has to decide whether they are legit or looney tunes! Action, adventure, and even romance do not stop at 40 – as she finds out rather quickly! Now she’s got to fight for the survival of her friends, the house, and herself.
Fantastic world building and character development. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I freaking loved Magical Midlife Madness! It should come with a warning – Do not hand this to your friends or family before you have finished reading! I started reading the first paragraphs in the salon and showed my non-romance reading mom and had to pry it out of her hands. Finish the book then get your mom her own copy! It’s that good. There are things that we can all relate to in the book. It’s snort out loud funny! And I am so glad that it ended like it did… except the dolls…
OMG what a read! Right off the bat I was curious, get to Ivy house and the town and damn I am not able to put this book down! I love the storyline, I love the characters especially Mr Tom! There’s action, there’s adventure, there’s magic, shifters and a gargoyle, goodies and baddies, a fab old house and lastly our awesome kick ass, badass snarky over 40 years old female lead Jessie! I laughed out loud, yep I cringed in places but I read in one sitting and would definitely recommend this to everyone and I cannot wait to read more! This is an author new to me but one I will definitely be reading more of!
This story hits all the right spots for me. A big YES to older heroines. And heroes too. It’s about time this life stage gets featured, with all its pros and cons. I personally found the constant repetition of the heroine being ok with middle age a bit over the top though. She doesn’t need to justify being 10-20 years older than her fellow heroines from the genre. Middle life rocks and we all know it, don’t we, ladies? Now that I pulled this hair out of the soup, I can’t help but enjoy every flavour and nuance of this deliciousness. The story and its characters are an absolute hoot. Every morsel is a treat. Needless to say that some things do get better and tastier with age. “Magical Midlife Madness” leaves me feeling satisfied, full and warm yet eager and hungry for the next course.
This was a fantastically hilarious story. Truly great characters and world building. There’s the perfect amount of real world mixed with the magical. I really enjoyed the older cast. They are so much fun. Their gripes are very relatable. They also show us that you don’t have to be young to be bad ass. I hope there will be many more adventures starring this unique and wholly enjoyable crew.
Finally a paranormal book that the characters are all over 40! Yeah for us old(er) women.
Jessie (Jacinta Evans) is starting over at 40. After years of taking care of everyone else she is now alone. She just wants some adventure in her life.
Jessie gets a chance to be the caretaker of an old house she remembers from her childhood, a house that most run from. Something in her tells her she belongs there so she takes the chance and moves into Ivy House.
Ivy House seems to remember her as well, she has been chosen to be the new keeper of the home.
Time for more adventures in the creepy old house from her childhood, she can’t wait.
The little town of O’Briens is strange, the people there are a bit odd she just hopes she can fit in.
This is such a wonderful story, a new series that revolve around the over 40 Women.
Mysteries involving Paranormal Characters -vs- a mature woman. Age does make a difference!
I can not wait for more of this series, it is so nice to have older characters to follow and cheer for!
This was an absolute belter of a read, in true K.F. Breene fashion, a heroine after my own heart but not a youngster, a woman who has lived, has wisdom and knowledge of the world, been married, divorced, had a child, been there done that, so what is there left to do?
Jacinda is just such a relatable character, she has real woman flaws, battle scars from her life experiences, yet she is ready to start a new chapter in her life that doesn’t revolve around her family or a man, just something for herself.
She decides to help out a family friend by being the caretaker of an old house she once visited as a kid, one that called to her back then and that she has never forgotten about. Never in her wildest dreams would she have know just how much of an adventure she was about to embark on, discovering a world she never knew existed, mythical creatures and literally dicing with death!
Absolutely loved the story line and the characters you meet, all different and fantastic in their own rights. The story is packed full of suspense, drama and the paranormal complete with K.F.’s wicked sense of humour and sass that will have you howling with laughter throughout at the antics the characters get up to.
I can’t recommend this one enough, a fantastic read that anyone would enjoy, I can’t wait for more in this series!

Great characters and outstanding world building!
This was a fantastic read! I knew from the first few pages in I was going to love it because of the relatability. Jessie was a really awesome character. She was a smart, witty, no-nonsense, brave, adventurous woman, looking to find herself after 20 years of being a wife and mom. Her child is grown and her husband left her and she is taking the opportunity to work at The Ivy House that she loved as a child. She had no idea what she was in store for. Mr. Tom was the best character. I loved him. Niamh was pretty great as well. Niamh and Mr. Tom’s relationship and interactions were hilarious. It made the book so much fun and Jessie fit right along with them even though she thought they were crazy. I loved Austin as well and I could not help wishing for something to happen between him and Jessie. The storyline was intriguing and entertaining. The writing was great! I’m looking forward to what comes next.
