A Paranormal Women’s Fiction novel with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!“Happily Ever After” wasn’t supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that’s exactly what my life becomes. Do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age … plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I’m ready to carve my own path.
Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I’ll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It’s just temporary, I tell myself. It’ll just be for a while.
That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could’ve imagined.
Thankfully forty isn’t too old to start an adventure, because that’s exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

Freshly divorced and determined to march on with life on her own terms takes Jacinta to a new town where she takes residence in a magical house and starts a series of adventures with magical companions . . . and a frigging hot polar bear shifter who we’re hoping finds his way into her bedroom. . .
A refreshing take on midlife adventures!
Paranormal Women’s Fiction is a new genre–it’s the genre I’ve been looking for, if I’m being honest. I turned 40 last summer, and things keep going wrong with my body. LOL! Cookies are harder NOT to eat, and in general, I’m not quite as strong or tight in all the places.
But! I am so much more capable. So much less put off by stress and anxiety. I am sure about who I am and what I want. It’s about time we started having magical adventures that reflect who WE ARE and our age, and our confidence. The excitement and fun shouldn’t all be for ingenues who haven’t had their first period!
This book also had a great cast of supporting characters. The crazy old lady who doesn’t give a hoot. The insane butler who loves you for no reason at all. The hot bar owner. And a house that has a will of its own? Yes, please. I binged the first four books in a week, and that’s a feat for me.
Omg!!! This book is so funny, I love it! I’m so mad that I waited so long to start this series! Do not be like me, start ASAP!
I loved it! Jessie is a woman after my own heart. She made her decisions, stuck to them, and stayed true to herself along the way. Not to mention making some pretty awesome quirky friends. This series is going to be the bomb! I can’t wait to read all of them!
Midlife challenges at its finest, I applaud these authors who write these with self love as a priority and not the endless “ I wish I was____” as the goal! Having characters facing midlife blessings from various genders makes this a gem of a tale! Book one deals with life altering changes dealing with having to keep oneself open minded to realities once thought to be imagination. A light humorous touch to even the most horrendous situations kept me glued solidly to every page. Sexually mature tones sound everywhere without making it even an important factor, presented (for me anyways) just as a humorous reality of life. Loved every character, every word, and happily looking forward to book two! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
This is an interesting book. I’ve been reading cozy mysteries. I was able to get this one and the next two in the series for free through Amazon as ebooks. I grabbed them when I saw they were PWF and I’m glad I did. The dialog between the main characters cracked me up multiple times. There are gargoyles, vampires, and animal shifters. Oh, and a magical house. I’m excited to see where the author will go with this series as the ending leaves it wide open to lots of enjoyable reading in the future
When Jacinta realized her life would be starting over, she never could have imagined the new direction it would take. Divorced and eager to find herself again, she jumps at the chance to become the caretaker of Ivy House, a place full of fond childhood memories. But the butler, gardener, and next door neighbor seem to be off their rockers. They keep muttering about alphas and being the chosen one. But she has seen her fair share of weird, and despite the odd folks, Jacinta decides to stay.
K.F. Breene has created a hilarious mix of midlife woes, sarcasm, and magical mayhem with Magical Midlife Madness. This is a book geared towards women later on in life after the kids have grown up and life restarts. For once the heroine isn’t an athletic built young twenty something who has no limitations. Jacinta deals with all the insecurities that come with an aging body and the knowledge of what happens in life to back her up. She isn’t going to let people walk all over her.
The messages K.F. Breene sends are loud and clear. Do not let people ridicule you just because your body isn’t perfect, or life didn’t work out quite how you thought it would. As Jacinta navigates her new life and sets boundaries, readers will be pulled into a slow but steady world-building. This was a build up book, more so aimed at establishing Jacinta’s outlook on her future. But I’m interested in seeing where this series goes. The characters are a delight to follow, and the ending is sure to make you jump to the next book.
I’m a huge fan of KF Breene’s Magical Midlife series. I love her characters and wit. Okay, I also love that the MC is not a young, innocent just figuring her life out. So refreshing. The slow burn chemistry between the MC and the love interesting has me hooked throughout the series. If you haven’t read her, you should.
Whatever you do, do NOT read this book with a steaming cup of hot coffee in hand. I’ve read a lot of books claiming to be “hilarious” this past year and I didn’t think much of this one’s warning until it was too late to put the cup down. Shit you not, the hot, delicious beverage managed to propel itself from my nose like an elderly gargoyle (okay, faster than that) as I started reading the first chapter! Then, as soon as Jess made it to Ivy House, I was entrenched in the crazy and ready for the ride. I haven’t laughed so hard reading a book in AGES. Well worth the read!
I loved this book! It was funny, magical, and kept me wanting more. Jessie is so relatable and I love how she strikes out on her own to make a new life for herself without fear. The characters in this book are quirky and make the story great. Their weirdness endears you to them. Such a great read. I immediately downloaded book 2!
This is an intriguing book about a magical house, it’s quirky/crazy protectors, the town alpha, and a “middle-aged” woman who is at a crossroads in her life. Magical Midlife Madness is the first book in this series, and it ends on a happy for now note. Right now, Jessy, the heroine is trying to determine who she is (or what she wants to be) and what paths forward she wants to take. I look forward to the future books in the series. Parrot that anticipation is because of the possible budding relationship with the alpha that may take a turn from is being her protector to a romantic partner. We will have to read to see how series develops. I really appreciate that the woman is not a teen or younger adult, and makes wise choices based off of her life’s experiences and knowledge. So many books and stories in this genre may have kick *ss characters, but those characters aren’t always very physically relatable (perfect physical attributes and abilities). It’s nice to see a character who is very confident in herself too.
This wasn’t what I expected but it was a cute story. I think it’s more designed for the younger set. The teens would probably like it as well. It has enough make believe, paranormal corniness to attract younger readers, although at my senior age I must admit I enjoyed it. I didn’t care much for the abrupt ending which leaves the reader hanging, but if it’s meant to be a preview or first installment of a series it was a good place to end I guess.

Oh my gosh! This book is hilarious! It would be funny anyway but if you are a woman over 40, a mother, and even divorced then you get the full benefit from this book! This book had me laughing frequently, giggling, and once crying from laughter! Definitely get the Audible version! The narrator is so good performing the voices and makes them that much better! A midlife, 40ish, mother of kid in college, gets a divorce ( hubby asked for it) and boy was she ready to get a life! She stays temporarily with her crazy parents until she gets a job to care for this old house. She loves this house although it comes with very bizarre things like a nutty butler and a rock throwing neighbor. What she doesn’t know is that she is really doing in the house is a test. A test to see if the house will give her the magic it has been holding. Oh, and there is a hot bartender too!
I am going into book 2 right away!!!
Don’t miss out on this gem!
OMG!!! I love this series. The characters are a hoot! I can’t wait for more.
This was one of my first books to read by Breene, and I’ll forever grab her books, regardless of the genre! She’s hilarious! Divorcee’s in their forties are always left for the younger model in books & movies, but not with KF Breene! She plucks Jessie straight up out of this role, peels off her cocoon, rolls her in no “ducks left to give”, attaches wings of quirky, sassy, courageous, and resilient, finishes by armoring her with strength of soul, then she lets her Jessie butterfly go & fly! Her supporting characters are some of my favorites! The butler has no personal boundries & an identity crisis, the gardener is creepy & can’t hide his “drag of shame”, and her neighbor can not only drink her under the table, but also throw rocks at trespassers with military precision. Then there’s the local bar owner who makes her blood boil in more ways than one! This is an amazing fun ride.. makes me snort & bust out loud laughing everytime, and along with Shannon Meyer’s Forty Proof series, these are my top two go-to’s for laughs when the 40’s get me down!
What does it say about a book when as soon as you read the last page you immediately log on and purchase book 2 in the series? Wholly cow- this was a magical ride.
From a middle aged divorced woman with stress marks and at a loss for what comes next Jessie made a splash in the magic world. But the dark haired man with the jaunty red pocket square is definitely up to no good.
Time to read….
SUPER fun! This was my first book by KF Breene and I laughed my butt off! Seriously, it was funny, snarky, magical, and just a great read.
I think this was an okay story. I don’t think it was super interesting. It’s slow moving. I did like that the main character is a middle aged, divorced female instead of the usual young, mate hungry, ridiculously pretty female.
Adored that it was different, fun and actually make me laugh for real. Love that the characters are flawed and genuine. Look forward to more stories with this world and characters.
Magical mayhem!
Lots of laughs, funny older lady gripes, and really strange magical acquaintances. I am on a distraction quest and this book did a good job.
Too bad book 2 won’t come out for 4 more months!!
